Your game looks really cool. Check Jump Birdy Jump in my sig, it is a game for a similar audience than yours. I don't think you should sell it a $0.99. there is no way you'll compete against CUT THE ROPE and Co... People whom will buy your game will buy it too if it was $1.99. So, you are simply loosing money at that price. My 2p :)

Ah, you've got a keen eye sir. This game is indeed influenced by Wakfu as well as Final Fantasy Tactics. Gameplay is totally different though.

Its so amazing to see the early stages of the game!
Here are 2 screens of the latest game I've worked.
(unfortunelly I don't have imgs of the prototype version with only squares)
Behold the terrible use of photo manipulation!

I forgot all about this thread. Better late than never.

The first pic is from the very first prototype. It had to already include the piece rendering because I knew if I couldn’t get that to work the whole thing wouldn’t work. I had to leave the game very minimalist. If you have over 100 pieces and more than half are changing at anyone time, that’s a lot of motion. So distractions had to be kept to a minimum. The prototype puzzle picture was nothing more than a red box bouncing on a white back ground.

There is an interesting story why the prototype was portrait.

    Awesome topic!

I made a game all the way back in 1992, called 'Dwarf Quest':

A few months ago, I started on a remake for iPad:

This is how it looks now:

    Ok, my turn!

    Synesthetic before:

    And after:

Don't be fooled by the beginning of the "before" video, the sound analysis sucked back then.

I literally had to pull out a Notepad to write down all the new games I discovered from reading this thread. Now that I've reached the current page I shall proceed to download them all. :p

I did miss a few games where there was no title. :(

    Great thread!

    Howdy friends.
I've been posting here as FacepuncherWW for a little while, but I made my own account since Facepuncher Worldwide is basically a "publisher" and I am a "studio".

But enough about me. These are a couple screenshots from my game CastleAbra that I've been working on for about 3 years now. I've never drawn as much in my life as I have making this game, so my skills have improved considerably. Unfortunately, that means I had to go back and redo a bunch of backgrounds that weren't up to snuff.

By the way. If anybody tells you that it's foolish to spend years on your first game and you should start small, you should probably listen!

Nice lighting in the scene there, very atmospheric with great subtlety in colour balance.
Doesn't matter how long you take as long as you complete it :)

Thank you! I've been reading a lot of post-mortems and I'm not sure if the income from the game will make the last 3 years of work worthwhile, but I am very proud of it and I regret nothing.

not quite ready to show the gameplay before and after but this would be the earliest incarnation of the menu:

And hopefully i'll stop Tweaking it, this is the current and hopefully final rendition. the backdrop scene is fully animated so it was quite hard grabbing a screenshot which worked.
