I hope a thread like this doesn't already exist. This thread is for possible appstore improvements and ideas people have to improve it. The reason I'm starting this thread is an idea I had the other day. The appstore is filling with clutter. And some of this clutter is "lite" apps. So, I was thinking why not create a lite app system? Perhaps you would tap on an app and on the description page you would find a "get trial" button next to the purchase button. This trial would be like a lite app. You would get like 5 minutes to use the full version of any app. This would also let actual free apps stand out. We won't have a bunch of lite versions of apps cluttering up the top 25. So what do you guys think? Any suggestions yourselves?
well not related to your clutter, but ath app store now shows the preview image of apps (like 4/5 of htem) like its show on itumes, you just scroll through each wihtout clickiing on one and then going through each hope you guys understand what i mean...this is for 3.0
great idea but it is kinda impossible. You would need the approval of every iphone developer, and every developer would need to submit a demo of each app. Too much work, and most devs who want a demo, release a separate, lite version. Now this is a plausible feature: linking apps together, so the lite version, and full version are on the same page. There is "buy app" and "try lite version" buttons. would make it a lot easier for people and would make it easier for people to make the upgrade.
This improvement will probably come naturally to the appstore. All of the devs who released apps that did not do well and didn't make back the $99 fee will probably not renew their contracts. This will cause a lot of the crapps to be removed from the store, making it easier for good apps to be found. I think the new apps lists should actually work. And maybe Apple could add ways to search apps by review ratings and other filtering options. They could also have an option to view apps by net income, but that would cause developers to lose a bit of privacy financially.
I actually like the "get demo" idea. I mean, doesn't Amazon have it? (I think it's Amazon.) You can read an excerpt from books whose editors/publishers/authors allow it, but other books just don't have excerpts. It would be like a "demo available!" button. Other wishes: 1) A way to organize my apps on the PC/Mac side of things! 2) A "top apps" list based on revenue, not volume. 3) A way to view free apps that are NOT lite versions. 4) Filtering. Searching-within-searches. Really basic stuff, but Apple's behind.
im not a big fan of that trial idea but i have one comment. When you find an app it should give you stats on that app like what rank overall, total purchases, and other stuff like that. The main reason I say this is because whenever I am looking at an app I wonder how popular it its.
