Except in situations like mine - my entire family votes conservative (Republican across the board), whereas I consider myself to be a Socialist. Makes for some interesting conversations at holiday dinners

Great you allow someone to post that they are a communist but you won;t allow me to post the Clinton gun ban story? Where's the fairness?

?? You can post whatever you are. This just isn't the site or thread to debate banning guns.

Anyone who knows me, knows very well that I am a bleeding heart liberal.

I agree with the fact that there is nothing wrong with being conservative, nor liberal.

However, moderates walk a fine line. It's ok to have views for both, but unfortunately the political spectrum looks down upon them. There is, unfortunately, no room for "Well... I like this... but I also like that". That's fine, but it rarely gets anything done. Just my .02

Politics is one of my favourite subjects.

I'll argue with you, and try and prove a point, yeah. But I won't look down upon someone for having an opinion.

I will look down on you if you are a conservative who avidly follows FOX and disregards anything factual though. There is no room for that BS. If you are going to argue, argue something valid.

And my .02 cents on that:

I don't think guns should be banned at all. However, I don't think people should be able to carry them every where they f*cking go. That is NOT cool. Just because you have the "Right" to bring a f*cking gun places, doesn't mean you absolutely have to, and for what, proving a point? We know you can carry a gun, now leave it at home when you go to places like, you know, political events and sh!t. All you are doing is causing problems. And no, it doesn't make anyone safer, and I will argue till I die against that "Theory". It's completely stupid.

I have no problem with licensed and properly trained people carrying firearms.
criminals who acquire guns illegally and don't bother with permits are the ones to worry about.

also, if you do attain a permit to carry a concealed weapon, there are many strict rules that come along with it. and there are certainly consequences for not following those rules. (laws vary by state)

I'm holding off on my CCW permit because I usually have a few drinks at practice or at the bar after work. so I'd rarely carry, if ever. but I wouldn't mind the option when I'm loading up gear at a gig downtown.
I'm not exactly a hulking dude, and the fremont street crackheads make me a little nervous at 2AM.

and you guess it, I'm a republican.
mostly because I believe the middle class shouldn't be forced to pay for those same crackheads who don't help themselves. call me cold hearted, but I work hard for what I've got.

Anyone can start a new thread about a specific political issue. Leave the political debate out of this poll thread.

    Thanks, Dave

i just dont understand why you think the other networks are any less crazy than fox you telling me that ex alcoholic glenn beck is less respectable than sports caster Keith Oberman? they are all for the most part idiots and to trust people constantly at war with each other for viewers for news is more idiotic. for you to look down on other people for any reason is very "bush" of you dont you think especially when it sounds like you are the exact same just on the other side of the line;)

Its a common practice and tactic for those of a party to try and talk down and dumb down the beliefs of an opposite party. Its just psychology, its up to the people to decide whos mkre right and wrong and whos telling the truth. Im more of a libertarian but I side with the conservatives because they are more truthful and tend to leave people alone, whereas liberals in politics I find to be less than honest, and people who crave more control over people by trying to pass excessive legislation. Americans tend not to like ignorant less than perfect people telling them what to do all the time, and it shows through history.

    Oh how we forget:

The Clinton administration thought the same thing...and, indeed, both Bill and Hilary (probably the most powerful 1st lady in the history of the nation) stated so during the run up to the war in Iraq. Most (in)famously, Bill stated "I had the same intel" when his official presidential portrait was unveiled at the White House a few years back.

How did Bill use the intel? Well, we didn't invade. But we sure as hell bombed the hell out of Iraq on a nearly daily basis during the Clinton presidency. Facts that are overlooked for some odd reason by the donkeys, just as the elephants overlook their own issues.

Again, both political parties are part of the problem, not the solution.

I said more truthful, not 100% None of them are 100%. I dont like the Iraq war totally disagreed with it. But I care more about what happens to Americans by their own government then what they try to do in foreign countries.

That is why I don't join a political party. Once someone becomes a politician they have to lie to the public to stay in office. Democrats say Bush lied and Republicans say Clinton lied.. people can't even agree on what is a "fact".

    Same here.

As I've stated, the election of our current president is seen as something "new", but putting aside the fact that we have elected someone who is not white into office the fact is we've simply elected a Democrat into office after having been under a Republican administration. We do that quite often (as well as the reverse), so what, if anything, has truly changed?

Same big two parties, same special interest groups, different skin tone.

We've changed the color of the wrapping, but the contents of the package are still the same as it ever was.
