Are you a conservative, liberal, libertarian or don't care about politics? Political Debate Thread is here http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=29422
I'm a conservative, and I care about politics. Sad thing is though I'm not old enough to vote and I care about politics... EDIT: Why is there a thread for this? (just curious)
I was curious what members on TA think after reading this thread about Obama that already has 55 posts. http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=28757
OMG I can't believe you're allowed to say L****** and C********** on this site, they're bad words! Or at least they seem like bad words these days I think Moderate would be a good choice as well, which is where I put myself in. The political view of compromise I view it as, and I think more people really should really take a look at certain issues and decide for themselves instead of what their registered party tells them. Despite what Fox News tells you, there's no problem with being liberal. And despite what all those "damned angry liberals" tell you, there's no problem with being conservative in my book. On that note, I generally try to not care about politics. Call it a defeatist attitude, but since politicians and the general public seem to argue about the most asinine things, it's hard to care. Though I do find it kind of ironic that issues like gay marriage and abortion are being decided on by people that it generally doesn't affect. You know, that whole "taxation without representation" thing, except with issues. And no, I'm not saying I support or condemn gay marriage/abortion, just my opinion on how politics deals with the issue, so don't quote me and try and start an arguement.
You've since added Moderate to the poll (unless it was there and I didn't notice) but there are other leanings including: Socialist Anarchist Populist just to name a few And how to define those that mix ideals, or blaze their own path? What of those that would be called "socially liberal, fiscal conservative" (or the reverse, which, in fact, many minorities in the US Democratic Party fall into, btw, and of which the left of that party need always be reminded)? Personally I've always felt the biggest problem with politics in the US, if not politics as a whole, is that we attempt to confine individuals into neat little groups and this just doesn't always work (in fact, it often does not). And, mind you, I'm that same person that runs around precisely grouping games and such into distinct categories (infamously so around here and other boards). So when I say "hey, you can't really affix neat little labels on the beliefs of individuals as concerns political ideals and expect it to stick very well" you know there's something to what I'm getting at.
I'll quote you because I've never seen such an issue so concisely whittled down to the brass tax of the issue: Stances on moral issues are being decided mainly by people they don't directly affect. That's a damned brilliant condensing of exactly what's happened in the US for too long.
You also need to add "I am what my parents are". Parents are a big influence on what their children grow up to choose, as many tend to choose the ones their parents are.
A really fun browser game I play is nationstates. You create a country and then decide upon daily issues to determine what type of government you are. You can be anything from a psychotic dictatorship to an inoffencive centrist democracy. If you do create a country, join my region, the Former United States. Here's the link: http://www.nationstates.net/
I tend to ignore the whole lot. No one party is ever 100% correct, all it does is start arguments and make the people arguing look stupid. Politicians are generally a bunch of assholes and talking about them is the dullest thing I can think of when there are so many great discussions such as ninjas, boobs and epic guitar solos to be had.
thanks man, favorite thread http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?t=19977&f=20&view=unread#unread
