There is no sense in arguing whether the bible "lies" or not. All it is is a nice storybook - a work of fiction. That'd be like arguing over whether J.K. Rowling was "lying" about Harry Potter killing Voldemort.

Okay, show me one quote, just one single quote that "clearly states abortion is wrong". Just one actual biblical quote.

And another thing, Jesus never ever mentioned homosexuality in his teachings, and there is not a word in the bible against homosexual relationships.

Also, I'd like to add that being Christian does not mean that you have to interpret every word of the Bible as literal, and not every word is the truth even if you are a Christian.

Let me explain. In around the 4th Century, the Roman Emperor Constantine came to power, and legalized Christianity in the Edict of Milan, year 313 (as a christian you should already know about the years and years of persecution from Nero to Pliny the Younger to Diocletian, etc).

In 325 (note, 300 years after the life of Jesus), the Nicaean Council was formed to define the official Christian canon, or the Bible as it is known today. This council selected which books and biographies and accounts of Jesus to include, and which to disclude from the official bible. Those accounts and writings which contradicted the official Roman Empire Bible were destroyed, and people who had conflicting beliefs about the life of Jesus were labeled as heretics and persecuted. (Note that heretics differ from infidels)

So, every passage of the Bible is not necessarily the absolute literal truth.

P.S. The Bible was revised and retranslated several times. It was originally written in Hebrew (as the Torah and Book of Psalms- Old testament) then translated to Greek (the intellectual language of the Romans), and then translated to Latin by St. Jerome (Called the Vulgate, since it was for the commoners) and finally translated to English hundreds of years after the life of Christ.

Now, ALOT of wording and prose and technicalities and intentions are obviously going to be lost or misconstrued or mistranslated through several retranslations and edits by dozens of people over hundreds of years.

In summary, just because Barack Obama supports gay rights and abortion, it does NOT mean he is not christian. And you people who believe he is Muslim are sadly misinformed.

P.S. No, I did not open Wikipedia even once during this web-lecture. Props to you if you actually read this!

Thanks for that arc417. I knew the general premises of what you talked about, but it was nice to have some confirmation from somebody who seems to actually have some knowledge in the area :)

@arc417 seems like somebody knows their stuff. I knew that the bible has been altered quite a few times (see Lilith) but not that much.

    haha thanks you guys

for a second there, i was worried about being flamed by hordes of angry bible thumpers!

Reminds me of a time when I got into a fight with a very devout Catholic friend of mine when I said John the Baptist was a giant hippie (he wore animal skins and ate locusts and honey and did all kinds of crazy shit, @biblethumpers, yes, it says so in the bible).

And then he kinda blew up when I said the Book of Revelations (one of the gospels which was written around 100 years after the death of Christ) was in all likelihood written by a guy who was tripping acid, cuz normal LSD don't do that to people. I mean, honestly, read from an objective viewpoint...

But, I digest. The bible is THE most influential book of all of Western Civiliztion, and the degree to which it is larked on astounds me. But then this is the internet... :p

I'd like to remind everybody that I am NOT preaching against Christianty. To me, being a Christian means choosing what to believe in and interpreting the teachings of Jesus in the way most meaningful to yourself

The comments make more sense in context of the character. This is a guy who thinks about strangling girls at church:
