I couldn't agree more. In fact, beginning with Nixon (IIRC), Conservative politicians started using people's strongly held beliefs (a.k.a fears) to their advantage. Most of these beliefs were religious, i.e. abortion, but many were not related to religion at all, although they may as well have been. Examples of these were gun rights, stricter laws and more police (a police state), and even many people's strongly held racist beliefs, i.e. "Vote for me and i'll make sure your daughter won't marry a black man." (not in those exact words of course) You got to hand it to the Republican Party. They figured out long ago that the way to get votes is to play on people's fears, most of which stem from religion. It was a great marketing strategy, and still works today, I think better than ever. Questioning Obama's religious faith and background during the '08 campaign is a perfect example of that. No, of course not. It's bad for business.
Exactly, they made a huge deal out of nothing. Who gives a s*** if he's christian, muslim, hindu, buddist, or anything?
The usage of so-called religious ideals for political gain are far older than the Republicans and Nixon. The Dems engaged in it too (still do on occasion, tbqh, though not as much on the national stage). So did most political figures in our and any other nation's history. That said, the reason I want to get past the religious debate in this political thread is because the bringing up of religion is simply a diversionary tactic from the real issues that effect us all in real life as is, so why continue such silliness in this thread?
The sad thing is most republicans dont see this. They just blindly follow a party led by nihilists. Although not all republicans are naive or nihilists. The thing is I dont get how republicans dont see this. Their party leaders deny anything that agrees with democrats even though it may help the country. Their previous (recently previous) ideas contradict their newfound opinions when faced with a democratic party that thinks of the same thing. Case in point: Mitt Romneys proposed health care reform which is strikingly similar to the one obama is trying to implement, is being regarded as it never happened. If you guys think that this thread shows how naive some are then go to fox sports and comment pro-dem on an article containing the words "obama". You'll get many hate filled responses riddled with insults that have nothing to do with the issue. In short they'll make fun of your name. The thing is if there is a poll asking if you like Obama's ideas then 65% will say yes. It definetly doesnt seem like 65% on those posts, more like 5%. I dont find this thread entertaining because the completely illogical conclusions reached by many of these people in attempts to justify their cause are pathetic at best. Religion should not have any influence on politics. but just to get it clear the dems do have a lot of Dbags in their party too.
That is no longer true.. it is now 48% and 51% say no. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/10/20/cnn-poll-half-the-country-disagrees-with-obama-on-issues/
Oh trust me, I wasn't in any way trying to disclude the Democratic Party from being complete douchebags. They are politicians after all.
I remember reading somewhere that in every major election win (like clinton or even bush), after the president was elected, their satisfaction rating went down for the first year. Let's just see how he's doing next June.
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/11/poll-gop-base-thinks-obama-didnt-actually-win-2008-election----acorn-stole-it.php No wonder Republicans are crazy when it comes to Obama.
Don't you love polls like that? Gives a idea, or certain belief and leads you to believe everyone believes that where in reality, the poll does not give statistics or percentages. Only idiots could believe these type of lies.
you mean "go angsty teenagers that don't understand politics so they pick whatever makes them feel liberated and against the "man"" right?
Negative. I mean the political philosophy of self reliablitity and responsibility. Although I know "angsty teens" have long pasted anarchist symbols on their drab hoodies, that's not what I am refering too. See libertarian party for the more mainstream approach.
What you talk about sounds more like buddhism. You should read the definition of anarchy: 1 a : absence of government b : a state of lawlessness or political disorder due to the absence of governmental authority c : a utopian society of individuals who enjoy complete freedom without government 2 a : absence or denial of any authority or established order b : absence of order : disorder <not manicured plots but a wild anarchy of nature Israel Shenker>
