Level 24 was the only one that almost made me cry while getting the flawless run. That little tunnel with trampolines on top and lasers either side took me forever to get right, even though all the levels up until then I've perfected quite easily.
I have Flawless through level 14, but I too am finding the level 15 timing to be particularly challenging.
4/5 from Appspy: http://m.appspy.com/polara-review I wouldn't call the backgrounds "boring," but it probably wouldn't hurt to have a bit more contrast between the foreground and background to make the platforms a bit easier to see. Didn't bother me while playing though, and the artwork in the cutscenes is gorgeous. Easily GOTW for me, and one of my favorite games this year.
To me the platforms are in the perfect shade. What is essential is how prominent the reds and blues are in the foreground.
Considering the entire game is based around the idea of messing with colors, the backgrounds are perfect the way they are. Just imagine trying to concentrate on the platforms and patterns if the game had backgrounds as lively as say...Streets of Rage or something. HTWGames, just wondering if you came across my post a couple of pages back regarding the screen orientation issue. Oh, and my girlfriend's asking if you have any plans to port Polara over to Kindle Fire.
Well, assuming you take 5 mins to root the tablet, you can get Polara off Google Play. The Amazon Appstore is useless really, so no point for a small team like HTW to release their game there as well. But thats not for me to say.
At the moment we're working on getting the game out on the Fire. We are offering the game on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Hope-This-Works-Games-Polara/dp/B009IDX8OA/ref=pd_rhf_se_p_t_2 But we're still working with the Fire at the moment We'll try and get it out as soon as we can.
Fire might actually be available tomorrow. FYI Also...some cool news, but we're not allowed to talk about it haha
So I went back and got a few Polara and special objects and improved my score on Endless-Normal, and now unlocked Super Speed and Endless Hard. They're a lot of fun! I especially like Super Speed. I take back what I said before about the endless modes being too random. It turned out that it really was a matter of practice, and not that much either. I still suck at the Gravity Wave though, but that's okay. I am shocked to see so few people on the leaderboards for the other modes. Perhaps most people want to finish the story before they go unlocking the other modes? Or perhaps some have not discovered the awesomeness of the other modes? I found it a nice diversion from the Story Mode. Still very much enjoying the game. As for the backgrounds: I do actually find that the game is a bit too dark for me. I have to put the brightness all the way up to actually see where I am jumping to. It's not a big problem, but a bit of a pity for battery life, because I always forget to put it back to normal.
Hmmm... yeah, I was really trying to get it so that it had a dark grungy kinda feel/tone so that the colours would REALLY pop... I'm starting to wonder if I should update the floor textures with little lights so you can at the very least see where those go... but I fear that would become distracting and also get in the way of the obstacle pieces. Food for thought though! BTW Gravity Wave is the HARDEST thing in the game... we were actually talking about cutting it, but thought bah just because we like other things better doesn't mean someone shouldn't be allowed to have fun with something else right? My personal favorite is the Switch mode. Oh and the endless modes are completely randomized, so yeah it's definitely a challenge but if we didn't challenge you, there would be some pretty crazy totals on those leaderboards haha Also we're still not completely trusted enough for people to say HEY this game is pretty damn good. So hopefully we'll see a few more things pop up in the media! However, and completely surprisingly, we've won the Game of the Week vote this week. That's just amazing!
Try contacting some other media that people follow consistently, like Appspy, or Crazy Mike's Apps, and other gaming websites that feature iOS games. You probably have some promo codes, you can send them to these people so they can take a look at the game and give you a bit more publicity.
We've actually got Triple Point PR contacting people and there are seeds planted...it seems more along the lines of people wanting to actually put the stories out, but they are trickling out rather than a full force gush that would've pushed us, I think, higher in the rankings. We're getting noticed for sure, I mean I just got off an exploratory conference call with Zynga, it's just the support from the media has been here and there, so the strength of the message hasn't been a full force thing. I mean it took all of you to push this game upwards so that toucharcade would do a play video. Perhaps they'll think about a review now? But again it's weird that the forums just voted Polara game of the week, yet no review on TA... In any event we've got a pretty cool game to play!
I find that if I play the game in a pretty dark room, I have no issues seeing the jumps. I have not had much success with this game when there is much ambient light. The game requires total concentration and minimizing the distractions for me to succeed. I am currently trying to complete the letter bonuses in level 18 and I am having some trouble locating a few of the letters after playing through this level many times. I think it would be nice if the letters were more prominent in the case where your character has the non-matching color. I hadn't really had this issue in earlier levels though.
Hey everyone, in lieu of us winning this Game of the Week, we're going to be putting Kunundrum on iOS for free for a little while! You can either search for it or click on the banner that shows up in the loading screen. And for those of you who have already purchased Kunundrum, THANKS SO MUCH, we've just released 20 new levels in an update Cheers everyone!
Thank you! I was planning on buying kunundrum, but this is a nice surprise! Excellent puzzle game. I hope that both of these games get you enough exposure to start making more money. I can't wait to see what you come up with next! Congrats on Nissa's glowing review here at TA.
4.5 out of 5.... :| 4.5 out of 5!!!!!!!!!!!! :O WHAT?!?!?!? If I knew how to do cartwheels I would! Instead...I'll just eat dinner hahahaha Wow, blown away and so so so happy with this result. AWESOME! Thank you so much everyone!
Yeah, that sounds distracting. Just a bit more brightness (depending on the lights in the room indeed) does it for me and I don't think it takes away from the grungy feel and the contrast. Hah, and then you made Gravity Wave the second mode to unlock Well, I went back and unlocked Switch mode and it is fun indeed! And I am so amazed that I actually was able to unlock that. When I started this game I saw people getting perfect scores and that just seemed amazing because I was already glad to finish a level with over 50 deaths. I thought I'd never unlock any other modes. And now I just get all those Polara's and special objects and I breeze through the earlier levels I hope so too. Perhaps people need some time. It's a big game! [edit] Ah, I see TA's review is up. See! Congrats! It's well deserved, congrats! Yes, I had the same issue with that level. The gravity indicators are so bright that it makes it harder to see the letters.
