Oh well, I'll check back little later and see if things have changed. Ringerill Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2012 315 170 43 #5 Ringerill, Aug 29, 2019 Played around and don't really know what to think of it. The gameplay is fun and in real time instead of being turn based so it adds some cool mechanics and rushed strategies. The combat is 3V3 and only 1 attack at a time so you have to chose who attack who based on their weakness (nothing fancy in term of strategy here). However, you can't spam attack because each attack cost some energy and it slowly regenerates over time. Pokemon seems to have levels and stats like in the original games and they can learn moves too. You have quests for each trainer, exploring, main story, etc. But you have to follow the story... Or at least, it's the only thing I can do. I can't wander around and do random battles to grind stuff and level up my team. A lot of useless stories without any real interest too... But you can skip dialogues so thanks god! However, certain things makes me uncomfortable... There is a system of "first time rewards", meaning that if you decide to redo the mission, the rewards are drastically reduced. A premium currency is implemented in the form of gems. You can get some every day if you login and also the first time you complete quests. There is also a star grading of each trainer/pokemon so I hope we don't get this card collection crap you can find in these Chinese games where you have to grind like hell to upgrade your trainers. You can buy trainer with the premium currency and try your luck at getting the ultra rare trainer at 1.4% (they actually specify you chance of getting them). But then I was negatively surprised to see that they make a difference between bought gems and free gems (from event/login/etc.). Meaning that the advantageous offers are only available if you actually pay and not simply play. It is the first time I see this and I definitely dislike it very much... One detail that also caught my attention was the fact that you can speed battles and even worse, do them in "auto". Every time I see "Auto" in a game now I get immediately the impression that it will be a brainless grindfest only good to waste your battery... These are only the first things I got from playing around an hour or so. Maybe the game will become better, maybe worse. Will try to update my review as I play and warn you if needed. Johny_Toxic Well-Known Member Aug 19, 2019 120 5 18 Male Gaming Addict Indiana #9 Johny_Toxic, Aug 29, 2019 I'm digging it. I spent the the 35$ or so on one of the gem offers, and bought the first time pack, got thee 5 stars out of it. I honestly don't know how much better the 5 star trainers then any of the others though. You need duplicate trainers to level up their sync abilities, so I guess that's the real gotchya mechanic, need multiple 5 stars of the same kind to max them out. Johny_Toxic Well-Known Member Aug 19, 2019 120 5 18 Male Gaming Addict Indiana #10 Johny_Toxic, Aug 29, 2019 You can, just not on the daily discount. The sync pair scout is the only thing at the moment to spend gems on at all, earned or bought. Johny_Toxic Well-Known Member Aug 19, 2019 120 5 18 Male Gaming Addict Indiana #11 Johny_Toxic, Aug 30, 2019 I think that’s it... still no co-op Johny_Toxic Well-Known Member Aug 19, 2019 120 5 18 Male Gaming Addict Indiana #12 Johny_Toxic, Aug 30, 2019 I’m corrected.... unbelievably this actually does unlock co-op Ringerill Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2012 315 170 43 #13 Ringerill, Aug 30, 2019 Last edited: Aug 30, 2019 And what does the coop add to the game? You can invite friends to be in your team or you do some "dungeons" in cooperation with a real player? Johny_Toxic Well-Known Member Aug 19, 2019 120 5 18 Male Gaming Addict Indiana #14 Johny_Toxic, Aug 30, 2019 Yea pretty much. In co-op its 3 players, you and two others. Each person has one Pokémon out at a time, and when it dies your next one comes out, or you can choose to switch between them. Its a different set of co-op missions that unlock, as you unlock more of the story line. Nothing super exciting. vivafringe Well-Known Member May 10, 2014 85 16 8 #15 vivafringe, Aug 30, 2019 The game is laggy and slow, loading takes forever, gameplay is very simple and pretty boring. Overall it's a pretty shocking misstep after how good Fire Emblem Heroes was. Ringerill likes this. Ringerill Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2012 315 170 43 #16 Ringerill, Sep 4, 2019 I guess this sums it up for me too. Because apart from the F2P mechanics and card collection unfair system, the game in itself is not that pleasing to play in the long run... I always wonder who are those people on the AppStore review who praise the game as if it was the GOTY... Johny_Toxic Well-Known Member Aug 19, 2019 120 5 18 Male Gaming Addict Indiana #17 Johny_Toxic, Sep 4, 2019 There is a ton of tedious grinding involved the game, which honestly I kind of like in a game. They're also pretty free with it, its really not as pay to play as at may seem, there's not really any timers, and the actuall trainers are the only thing purchasable, everything else just has to be farmed. Really all the components for a really solid competitive game are there, that's the problem though. Its just not competitive, no real social aspect to it. Anytime I spend hours on end grinding away on a multiplayer game, I want a way to show it off, challenge my builds against other players, at least see rankings or stats of other players.. and there's just none of that. Ringerill Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2012 315 170 43 #18 Ringerill, Sep 4, 2019 Yeah that's also what I realised quite quickly after playing the game. However even if the game seems "empty", I have to give to them that the fact that they didn't put timers and things like that is already a good sign. But remember the case of Pokemon Go? When the game was released, it was lacking and there was not much you could do. And now? Even if the core mechanics haven't changed, they are adding new ones and making events that are even hard to follow for people not involved in it on a daily basis. So maybe this game will expand and what we have now is just a first draft of it.
