Not an open world, or even a world at all for that matter. A map that you select missions from that randomly generate pokemon (from a list for that location) that you have "encountered." Relatively well done, but lacking the explore and actual in world feel. Would likely still be playing if the energy system didnt push it over the edge for me to delete.
