Does this need mobile internet all the time, or you can turn 3g on, get the next pokemon location, and turn it off until you arrive there to catch it?

omg the power pack is fine but it essentially needs unlimited data plan from what you tell me. how many people can actually afford to play it like this?
According to my records I've used 28MB of data since I downloaded the app yesterday morning. I've never thought about data use as I've had a $10 unlimited data plan grandfathered onto my phone contract since the early 2000s, so I'm not sure if that's a lot...
