  1. On the bright side, your screen name is very fitting for your current situation!

From what little Ive been able to play, you need to go out in the real world, go to different real world landmarks, and go to different real world environments (parks, woods, beaches). Ive found it tough to do safely in a car, but you can certainly drive somewhere new then get out and walk.

I love when humans complain about what the human physique was evolved to do. Strenuous exercise. By all means, develop diseases due to poor eating habits and sheer laziness. Go ahead, mock those who choose to take the leap and get healthy while playing a video game at the same time! A bit counter intuitive, yes?

Really? I work at the largest tech company in the world, I live a very active lifestyle, I'm 23. I have no shame in this at all. I've caught a ton of Pokemon out on my runs and even just letting it run while plugged in at my desk at work. No shame whatsoever.

My Pokemon account hasn't signed in for over 24 hours now I created a google account and that actually worked for all of 10 minutes before having server issues again.

I mean really how long does it take them to buy and setup new servers with all of the resources they were given to make this game?

Still pissed seeing how many pokestops people have by them when mine are so few and spread out and also all the people that can catch Pokemon at home where I get none at all ever.

No, I'm not talking about the player's ping, or the ping that radiates when you tap. This is just a ping that exists on its own for whatever reason. Next time it happens, I'll take a screenshot.

I think you underestimate the power of video games via mobile. At my job, there are more than 10 people walking around with their cell phones looking at different things. All over 30.

I am not, but, never played a Pokemon before in my life. I can't see that it is that much different than a 35+ year old being highly engaged in Zelda, FF series, or any other games for that matter that are "probably" intended for a younger audience than myself.

This game is already #1 grossing app on US.

I can't even imagine how this is possible.

Took me HOURS to set up an account yesterday. The it took HOURS more to be able to log in the first time. Then the tutorial crashed repeatedly. None of my (obscure) names would be allowed (all taken, really?). And today I'm able to log in maybe 20% of the time (and every time it fails you can't just say "try again" you have to force quit and log back in only to have it fail again).

And then in the slim chance you CAN get into the game, it isn't even fun. It's just a crappy gimmick.

Who the heck is rewarding this junk?

  9. I've been wondering the same thing. I get the gazillion downloads, but who's throwing all that money at it?

    Simple answers for you both.

    1. The reason you have so much trouble getting in and playing is because every actual fan is going nuts and trying to do the same. Thats also why its #1 grossing in us.
    2. The reason you don't understand it is because its not your type of game. -shrugs-

Me? I'm not actively playing it, occasionally turn it on and look around me. But good god I have three facebook groups I'm with, all three have nothing to do with pokemon or gaming... and all three are actively hunting, maping out the county I live in and coordinating with eachother.

I'm for sure spending money to get an egg incubator just as soon as it goes three days without forcing my to login following the server going down. I can't wait to spend some money.

I am playing it, but I'm experiencing equal amounts of frustration/boredom and actual fun/interest. I was walking around for hours yesterday and most of that time I couldn't get on. When I did manage to get on, it drained my battery too fast to be able to keep it open for long (and yes, I have an external battery, but even that won't allow me to keep the game open continuously). Despite traveling several miles each way yesterday, my egg incubators didn't track anything while I wasn't staring at the open game.

Not to mention the shallow gameplay when everything is working as it should.

Hence my confusion that so many people are throwing money at it when it's a mediocre experience at the moment. I guess nostalgia counts for a whole lot to people.

Edit: I also haven't checked how much of my data this game is using up while I'm away from wifi. It really needs to be more streamlined to do/track things while the app is closed -- like notify you of Pokemon you're tracking (no I'm not going to wear a Pokemon watch -- I'm embarrassed enough about doing this in public) and egg incubators should be able to say "oh you're two miles from where you were when you last logged in, so let's count that towards the distance travelled." It could be so much more -- I do hope they make it something worth holding onto for the long term.

Had a good evening last night, caught half a dozen pokemon with my son while waiting for my wife and daughter to get a haircut. Helped that two stores down from the haircut place was a pokespot (a Mongolian Barbeque that we frequent often!)

This morning I hit a handful of spots near our house - a park 3 blocks away has four spots, wasn't level 5 yet to play with the gym. Hit two bus stops near work, got to play with a gym at a fountain near work. From mid-morning to now, all the pokespots don't load pictures and just say try again later, no pokemon seem to be spawning either. It's odd - I hear them, but none pop up.

I've seen that. It is a yellow coloured circle thing. Eventually turned into a Pokemon.

It isn't going to track you while it's closed. It tells you it needs to be open, and connected, for a reason. So other arsehats don't try to cheat the system. If you're embarassed by doing it, don't do it. Go do something else. I've been seeing PLENTY of people. Most nod and smile. Others honk their horns. They know damned well the only reason I'm standing in the middle of no where next to this lake is because it's an isolated gym that I own.

Heck, I had to go into an abandoned fenced off area to grab another gym today.

As for incense, nothing to note. I went to the ocean and again dropped incense. There was TONS of grass markers. In 30 minutes I managed 2 Spearows, 1 Squirtle, 1 Magikarp.

    In comparison...

Driving TO the ocean (15 minutes) I picked up Krabby, Stary, 3 Ratata's, 2 worms (wasn't paying attention.. driving) (EDIT: 3 Caterpies), 3 Pidgeys.

I'd almost say incense is currently not working as planned.

I will say.. it's game on in the gym area. I'm seeing Scythers (300+), fully evolved Eevees (water and fire so far), Pinsirs (320-350 I believe), and a Magmar (current busting my britches at the gym near my house). Edit again (sorry) completely forgot 3 Oddish's. 1 of which was CP 210 and I left at a gym for some unlucky bugger.

    battle system is too primitive
    ui is lagging
cant fight other trainers realtime or wild pokemons
very few pokestops and gyms in the smaller cities

  18. It doesn't even seem to track things while the game is minimized or your screen goes off. If the point is to mesh with your life as you run around doing other things, it's not succeeding at that. That's what I was hoping for -- not this expectancy to keep the game (and screen) open nonstop while you're walking.

That's not the point at all. That's the point YOU'RE making of it. You're playing a GAME that happens to be in places around the world. If you want the "mesh" then you're going to have to pony up the 30 bucks for the vibrating wristband that comes out in like 2 months.... Just a smidge of reading tells you flat out it only tracks when the game is on and running.. so it's not really a "GASP" worthy surprise.
