Wow, Nokitano made a huge push the past 12 hrs... I was going for an even 10,000 jobs but miscounted, argh!
Doh! For at least the second time I sent a plane round trip from Lima>Sao Paulo instead of Rio. Stupid fat fingers.
Thanks Jmac. Once I get have time tomorrow I'll post details about my setup and some things I learned from this event and hope it helps the crew.
I don't know how the three TA1 members were able to coordinate a 3-way tie for first place a handful of events ago. I am having such a hard time counting my jobs in conjunction with the server registering my jobs!
Yes. I'm still shaking my head about it. The lengths people go to in order to mess with the MOFOs... Cheers, M.
Wise man once told me: you have nothing to say, you no post. Cheers, M. PS Please bear with me on the crooked sentences. Since Star Wars we all know, the wiser the man, the worse syntax.
Just compared my finish screenshots from Honolulu and Rio. The difference after Rio is +1,055 bux and -621,595 coins. Yep, I gained a few bux but lost a few coins.
I have the OS X version of Pocket Planes and I can get the X10 Mapple Pro, but I am curious: At which level is is unlocked?
So guys, comments/advice appreciated I just did one massive 63k Bux exchange. Now that I got 63 plane slots, I'm not sure of what my setup should be. My only interest for the last few months has been for the global events. It took me a few months to gather the 63k Bux. I've not really been focusing on it, it just happened with some top10 rankings I don't think I'm motivated to expand to more slots again. And even then, another 65k Bux trade in would only add 5 more slots at this point I recently ramped up to 18 class 3 airports to add a bit more diversity, mainly by keeping new ones opened for the latest events. I have tried as low as 8/10 class 3 airports and it gets boring. I have 4 Clouds P and 4 C, and 1 Cyclone P, 1C so 10 planes focused on event jobs gathering for the nearest class 3 airport. I got about 20 planes, mainly Cyclone Ms and a few Concordes and C130 as regular delivering fleet. 15 Cyclone M as Bux sitters That leaves 18 slots for event planes, now empty. I got enough of every useful plane to fill the spots when needed. My key question is : should I keep 15 Planes as Bux/Mystery parts sitters? With 63 planes in the air I don't think I really need them any more. And I could always dedicate some planes for MP sitting when needed. I won't do the minimal airports swarm strategy, I wouldn't have fun doing it I guess. Or maybe I will Maybe I should go Merlion's 100 airports way, I dunno. But it would hamper my ability to pull huge numbers for events. The thing is I could use my Bux now to upgrade/revamp/boost my fleet aggressively if I'm not considering a new Bux trade in. I just spent 2k Bux upgrading speed on a few planes! Any thoughts?
Rio event details Hi all, Since there seemed to be some consternation about my performance in the Honolulu event, I figured it might be a good idea to come clean about my 25k in Rio... It was filling and flinging a lot of damned planes... Sorry, couldn't resist building some excitement before delivering an otherwise very monotonous answer for a very monotonous event. To set aside any suspicions, rest assured that I am not using anything outside of the established and standard game mechanics. i.e. no hacks were used in the making of this event. All of my slots/bux/coins/planes have been earned legitimately, the old-fashioned way. Lots of scrolling, lots of tapping, lots of scrolling, and even more scrolling. With all of that out of the way, I wanted to share some things I ran into during this event. Might not be anything new to some, but in any case, here goes: First, the setup: All 50 slots devoted to the event, all Class 3 planes (a mix of 30 Cyclone-M and 20 Seq-M). All planes do a non-stop and return to their home city empty. Cities: Lima, Mex, Chi, NY, Lagos, Kinshasa, Buenos Aires, Lima, Sao Paulo, Rio (full-time advertising) Initially, the number of planes assigned to each city was according to their one-way trip time. Like the Hon event, I suspected I would bux-boost the empty planes back home. In other words, if Mex-Rio takes 20m in a Cyclone, then I need 5 planes assigned to Mex to ensure that a plane is available for every job refresh. This setup takes a bit of trial and error to refine, and when it's determined that a city needs an extra plane, there's a lot of plane-renaming and shuttling going on. This setup worked well for a while, and was used probably up until the 15k mark. The only drawbacks were the cost and the nagging feeling that I shouldn't be sending people all the way from Chi or NY. On the topic of boosting, I think I spent about 350 bux for this event. This includes shuttling planes when they needed to be re-assigned. As I had time, I would boost the empty planes back home. Boosting a full plane is ridiculous; I might have plenty of time to play, but not enough time to bux-sit for that sort of frivolous spending. In contrast, Honolulu was nearly 5x that amount, but for me it was a proof-of-concept - to get a feel for how everything works within a full-scale setup and how sustainable it was to boost empty planes. With both layover planes from C3 cities and then return trips from Hon to LA, I can say it's not very sustainable. So back to Rio...Even though boosting was much cheaper than the prior event, the longer trips between Rio and Chi/NY were bothersome. I decided to change things up a bit and close down those 2 cities and shuffle the planes off to closer cities. This would allow for less bux expenditure and a more even flow of planes into Rio. After moving everything around, I closed down Chicago and noticed an interesting thing happen - the jobs to Rio seemed to drop off. At first thought it was just a fluke, but over time it was consistently difficult to fill a 10-12 seater per refresh per city. I then closed NY and noticed the same thing happen. After a while I opened Chicago again and saw the number of Rio jobs (in the active cities like Lima, Mex, Lagos, etc) increase. The same thing happened when NY was re-opened. While I can't say this is true for every layout and every event, i firmly believe that for Rio, a rising tide lifts all planes when it comes to the # of open cities vs. the number of event jobs. I'm sure there is a break-even point where pool dilution comes into play and you end up decreasing the number of event jobs, but I didn't test that since I was already able to fill a plane from each city per refresh. So how can I be so confident that this was the case? During this testing another thing dawned on me. I'd remembered seeing a link on Faye's compilation post about buying C1 cities to refresh the job list. After moving everything around and seeing the side-effect of the testing (new jobs yay), I moved planes and renamed them again to have an even number of slots available in each city. This made it easy to track which city saw benefit from opening another city, in respect to the number of jobs they had available for Rio. It went something like this: Open Chicago (or NY). Run through the 5 feeder cities for jobs. Open a C1 city to refresh the job list. Fill more planes from the feeder cities. Wait for normal refresh. Rinse, repeat, but sell the C1 city for a refresh. Doing this I was able to pull several rounds of testing to confirm my earlier suspicion. But in the process something else occurred - the C1 city I bought had different effects on the Rio jobs depending on the distance from the respective city. While it was interesting, it's probably not interesting enough for this already long-winded post, so I'll just leave it at that. I guess the biggest thing I learned is that buying a refresh using a C1 city is easy. So easy in fact, that in comparison it becomes a chore to send off all those damned planes. Not sure how tenable this method is, since it's only likely to work smoothly where you don't have to fiddle with layovers. I'll be sitting out the current balloon event (and maybe the following) to build up my bux reserves in anticipation for a Blimp event. Still need to work on getting more Mapples using the wife's MBP, and would like to upgrade my current fleet. I used up all of the Cyclone parts I had been stockpiling, and sadly still very under-stocked if we ever have a P/C only event. Hope you guys got something useful out of this wall of text, and Good Luck to all in this event!
Popehatz - congratulations on hitting the 25k mark! Thank you too for sharing your strategy. I was able to fling planes for 3 hours straight. My goal - break into the top 10! Whew - it was work. Just like Popehatz, only a handful of Class 3 airports open, was trying to get to the same set up Popehatz had, however still had a lot of BUX layovers in Istanbul and Cairo so for the Rio event those were in p,ace of Lagos & Kinshasa. I never did open Lima?!? I had been refilling plane for 25% bonus on return flights. Then I realized, to break into top 10, it was okay to lose coins & BUX! I left all BUX in São Paulo & I'm now clearing those out before switching gears for Windhoek.
@PopeHatz: thks for sharing and congrats on your 25k! Impressive work. 25k with such a dedicated setup for a class 3 event is indeed doable for those who are a bit sceptic. It sure requires a lot of time and effort though! I totally understand and respect the 100% "pure" setup for the event. It might be the only way to achieve this kind of numbers. But this leads to very monotonous gameplay and missed Bux opportunities imho (as the swarm strategy). You missed a lot (and I mean A LOT) of Bux sending planes on round trips and not taking the Bux jobs. And even more with shutting far away airports. I like the hub strategy for that, because you are able to pull huge numbers and getting a lot of Bux along the way: sending all event and bux jobs from everywhere to Rio, sending back planes with the 25% bonus and Bux layovers with a "down the list" method. Last time I did 10k on a class 3 I made over 6k during the event. With a Rio hub strategy and the same effort, you could have made perhaps "only" 15k jobs but 10k Bux along the way. I'm not saying you should have though I like this 100% focused setup, I just couldn't achieve it Edit: and thks for the tests on jobs. Afaik, optimal job distribution seems to be around 10/15 fully upgraded class 3 airports. Lesser than that, you have low number of overall jobs Over that, dilution begins to be a problem.
