I think keep it, will be an interesting challenge being top but not trying too hard. But it may mess up the MOFO results with everyone only getting 50 jobs
I was thinking about asking the same question. All in favor of excluding this event from the MOFO rankings say "I", all opposed "nay".
Here's my screenshot, tried for hours last night to get into top 10, it just wasn't meant to be. Had a busy week and a whole 24 hours that I didn't fly any planes.
Sounds like a good idea. It'll be hard for me though cuz this is the first global event in my home town. I vote for a MOFO break the week of March 30 to April 7 .... but that's only because I'll be on vacation that week and will be out and about sightseeing and not have much time flinging planes.
I doubt a lot of us will be doing much more than 50 (as soon as I've done it, I'm closing SF airport). It seems like it goes straight into the hangar, regardless of whether you have a free slot (my Starship went there even though I had a free slot). They haven't had all their rare planes in full as prizes - Concordes have never been given as full prizes, Mapples aren't available to those of us on iOS devices and Blimps were only ever given out in the run-up to London 2012, which was about six weeks after the game was released (and there are people who weren't playing it at the time).
Blimps were also given as full prize at the Thanksgiving Celebration in Ottawa about 2.5 months after london P-40's on the other hand were only a full prize at the 2nd event after game launch, 2 times as parts after that and 0 times for android users I really hope they'll add more (rare) planes in the future, but I'm not sure how much they still work on PP as I assume they don't make much money from it compared to other nimblebit games As an Android player I'd like a Kringe Kruiser as prize, our event was bugged since the plane was added to our version after christmas...we got a starship instead, but I don't want to have to wait for next christmas Something like Cyclones (6/6 P/C) but as rare plane would be nice, or some class 1 plane with huge range for events. But what we really need are more helicopters, faster ones and some with more room for passengers/cargo, maybe even class 2/3 ones
I'd like to see the Space Shuttle with an accurate 7 Crew / 3 Cargo version and a 3 Crew / 7 Cargo version If they really want to add a new element, they could integrate the Pocket Trains into the game I got the message that I finished 14th in Boston. I added it to the spreadsheet though it seems no one finished in that grouping that has the numbers at the finish. I did a few jobs about 2 hours before the finish to put me at around ~3000 total. I was in 15th at the time but i must have jumped up a spot.
I'm loving the idea of some big helicopters, maybe based on the CH-53 or Mil-26. I'd love a Class 3 size plane that you could use for class 1 airports, a C-130 would have been good for that as they are capable of rough field use in real life but they would have to be a very rare plane or all events would get boring very quickly. In other news it looks like TA (or whoever the top crew is) haven't got the memo about the prizes as they are doing shed loads of jobs compared to other teams
I would like to take credit for negotiating the "Cease Fire" between Gus, Nalazoo, and myself. Our conclusion was that was all well deserved a win and messing with Merlion would be fun. I'm picturing him sitting in front of his computer with his Jedi robe on, hood mostly covering face and uttering "I sense a plot to destroy me!" Will be interesting to see how he sorts out the rankings.. "Cheers P."
I have cut my fleet to only 13 planes for this event. Only 5 are delivering for this event. Kept two mapple's flying. The rest are bux sitting. A C130 is going to be a nice prize. It further makes me think that an update is coming very soon. I wouldn't be surprised if the next event is a Concorde. I say if you are looking for a new plane you have an idea for post it. I am sure the good folks at nimblebit read this post. Heck I heard they are going to name a plane after me for breaking the 15K mark. Thanks NB
Ooooo - a conspiracy Let's investigate this further.... Reporter: This is Shep Hancock, live at the TA1ville airfield where we find Miss 'Zoo cleaning her spiritedly colored plane. Reporter: Miss 'Zoo...may have a few minutes. Miss 'Zoo: Why certainly Shep. Reporter: First, I must congratulate you on joining the 10k Club. That's quite an accomplishment. Any tips you'd like to share? Miss 'Zoo: Thank you and thank you to all who have been sending Congratulations. Tips...it's about staying focused, eye on the prize, and nimble fingers to work the controls. Reporter: There are rumors about some "conspiracy" since Gus, Penquin and you all tied at an astounding 10,508. What do you have to say to that? Miss 'Zoo: When I crossed the 8k threshold and knew that 10k was within reach I noticed the gap between Gus and Penquin closing...and then, boom - they were TIED! I thought for sure Gus was going to take off again...yet, I saw him turn his engines off and pick up a tall, cool glass or lemonade and toast the mighty Penguin. The two of them sat there and watched me take off again and again. As I closed in on 9k, the two of them started taking note. They looked concerned. Reporter: How did this affect your flying and reaching your goal of crossing the 10k threshold? Miss 'Zoo: I knew they were cheering me on and at any time, they could jump back in their planes and leave me in the dust. I'm sure either of the. Could have crossed the 15k mark had they decided to fly again. Reporter: Did you make a conscious effort to hit 10,508? Miss 'Zoo: I did. I respected that Gus & Penguin had reached an agreement to share the glory and I didn't want to mess that up. Reporter: How hard was it to hit 10,508 exactly? Miss 'Zoo: The NimbleBit Control Center has a lag that causes delays in the leader board being updated. In some cases it can take up to an HOUR for the leader board to update. I took a break at dinner to allow time for my instruments to get a good bearing. Then, it came down to good ole' pencil and paper to keep track until the end. Reporter: Did you do this to muck up the MOFO rankings? Miss 'Zoo: It did cross my mind that Merlion was going to have fun with this and I can't wait to read his update. Reporter: Well there you have it. This is Shep Hancock, from the TA1ville airfield. As the camera pans away...we hear.... Miss 'Zoo: Now Shep, can you grab that bucket and rag and freshen them up? Reporter: Why of course! Shep mumbles to himself, I hope Gus and Penguin aren't watching...otherwise they'll have me cleaning planes too! One of these days...I'm going to say no.
Boston MOFOs... ... And what a race it was. Three players in a superhuman neck-and-neck struggle, flinging planes 24/7, hundreds of jobs per hour, never relenting except for the occasional coffee and natural breaks. It was already clear in the run up to the finish line that this was no ordinary race. In Merlion's home country they have a saying: "When cats are hunting mice they don't meow." Hardly a peep was heard, and an eerie silence hung over the TA forum, which is usually a quite lively affair. There wasn't even time to post. All of this ended up in a dead tie with 10,508 jobs each. The MOFO Event Rankings Committee (i.e. Merlion) suspects team orders, which as we all know are frowned upon in Formula One, but nothing can be proven so we have no choice but to process the results as legitimate. In real-life Formula One there is no rule for shared wins, simply because measuring equipment is so accurate that there's always one car that crossed the finish line before the others. So we had to wing it. Since the MOFO spreadsheet has a checksum line that will only accept 101 points as the total outcome per race, the MERC in its infinite wisdom has decided to award (25+18+15)/3 = 19 1/3 points to each winner, and the usual 12, 10, etcetera points to the numbers 4 and below. That being out of the way, let's go to the results. First, the Boston race: Shared 1st: Gus, Penguin, and Nalazoo, 10,508 jobs; 4th: Faye, 7,301; 5th: Spineth, 7,113; 6th: SlightlyNorth, 5,908; 7th: ktc24, 5,232; 8th: Lynsie, 5,184; 9th: Green Paper, 5,107; 10th: Number1Ump, 5,060. The podium looks very crowded in the middle, with three people on the top step and none on either side. Congrats, Gus, Penguin, and 'Zoo! And welcome to all three of you to the rarified league of the Superheroes, those who cross the 10k barrier in a Class 2 event. A warm applause! The pace of the three winners left Faye in a rare non-podium position. Spineth is becoming a familiar sight in the mid-rankings, in 5th this time; and North shows he's serious about his comeback, with a second good result in a row. ktc, Lynsie, Green Paper and Ump make up the closely clustered remainder, with Green Paper scoring first points. Congrats, and welcome to the ranks of winners! Note that this time it took a record 5,060 jobs this time to get into the points. Yitzhak knows this all too well, since he did exactly 5,059. Close but no cigar, as they say. Keep on trying, Yitz! The previous record, incidentally, was the first recorded race, in Paris, where it took slightly over 4,500 jobs to become a MOFO points winner. On to the 5th Silver Yoke, the monthly league: (previous between brackets) 1st: Gus, 69 1/3 points (1st, 50); 2nd: Penguin, 52 1/3 (2nd, 33); 3rd: Faye, 38 (3rd, 26); 4th: Nalazoo, 33 1/3 (6th, 14); 5th: Spineth, 26 (5th, 17); 6th: Snowbird, 22 (4th, 22); 7th: SlightlyNorth, 14 (9/10th, 6); 8th: Yithzhak, 12 with one 4th place (7th, 12); 9th: ktc24, 12 with two 7th places (9/10th, 6); 10th: Ump, 9 with one 6th place (8th, 8). No changes in the Top Three. Nalazoo climbs two places thanks to her top result today. Spineth stays in 5th and Snowbird is the one to suffer: she drops from 4th to 6th. North wins two places, Yithzhak loses one, ktc stays in position, and Ump sinks to the bottom of the Top Ten. Right behind Ump sits Lynsie with the same number of points but only 8th as highest result. And to complete the ones with points in this cup: El Carmo Grande has 4, and Green Paper has 2. Needless to say, with six races to go, anything can still happen. Second Golden Sequoia, our quarterly cup: 1st: Gus, 255 1/3 points (1st, 236); 2nd: Faye, 148 (2nd, 136); 3rd: Penguin, 147 1/3 (3rd, 128); 4th: Nalazoo, 133 1/3 (4th, 104); 5th: Tater, 71 (5th, 71); 6th: Lynsie, 62 (6th, 53); 7th: Snowbird, 50 (7th, 50); 8th: Jmac, 48 (8th, 48); 9th: Spineth, 32 (12th, 22); 10th: RoboBoto, 30 (9th, 30). Gus is still firmly in the lead. Behind him Faye, Penguin, and Nalazoo are staying in place as well but increasing their distance from the rest. Tater in 5th is 33 points behind 'Zoo; Lynsie has another 18 to go. Behind her Snowbird and Jmac are staying in place but Spineth is gaining, taking his rightful place in the Top Ten. RoboBoto makes up the rear. And right behind her ktc, Castle, and Nokitano are ready to take Robo's place in the Top rankings. Never a dull moment in the Sequoia Cup! Closing off with the Concorde League: 1st: Gus, 436 1/3 points (1st, 417); 2nd: Faye, 379 (2nd, 367); 3rd: Ump, 287 (3rd, 286); 4th: Nokitano, 226 (4th, 226); 5th: Vic, 210 (5th, 210); 6th: Penguin, 177 1/3 (6th, 158); 7th: Nalazoo, 162 1/3 (8th, 143); 8th: Snowbird, 156 (7th, 156); 9th: Castle, 125 (9th, 125); 10th: Copper, 122 (10th, 122). Boston made little difference in the top. Nalazoo gains one place but gains nothing on Penguin since they finished on equal points; Snowbird is now 6 points behind her. Gus, Faye, and Ump are still way ahead of the others. Penguin is gaining on Sheriff Vic, but still has 52 points to go. Further down Coastcat is still 5 points behind Copper, and North is still steadily approaching, now in 12th with 110 points. Castle, watch your back! Keep on flinging, boyz and girls; and remember, making deals costs points! Cheers, M.
Wow, you guys are total pros. I assume TA1 is a reserve crew for those who get >5k? So what do we do at TA with this event? Looks like we are winning atm. An update would be nice, a major one. But I don't really know what can possibly be added apart from planes. Space exploration? Other means of transport? Fueling/resourcing? Simply adding planes wouldn't be much as the game is getting older
Zoo Congrats on the 10K Achievement. It is tough. I know after hitting 10k it is exhausting. It is like work hitting that mark. For some reason I thought you hit the 10k mark earlier. 4004 TA1 is not an elite group. It is just the most active here on the forum. Anyone is free to join. You don't have to put up lots of numbers, just have a love of pocket planes and enjoy talking to others that do as well. W are also a helpful group. If you have a question just ask! Gus172
After all the anxiety and aggravation caused by the pistoleros that invaded the sleepy and peaceful town of TA1ville, life returned to the old order again surprisingly quickly after their departure. There were a few hiccups, but nothing that couldn't be solved amicably. Sheriff Vic was seen stomping into the offices of the MOFO Statesman & Herald, demanding a publication of his version of events. Vic was not amused about the reporting in the MS&H, from which avid readers could mistakenly conclude that he had done very little to address the problems. Merlion agreed that nothing was farther from the truth, and that is was widely known that Vic was an experienced sheriff, having saved the community from many a disaster such as when it was plagued by an evil troll several Pocket Planes years before, and that he had nothing to fear about his reelection in office. A further problem was posed by Icon, the saloonkeeper. Granted, he had gone back to letting Sheriff Vic drink for free again in his establishment. But there was the occasional allusion to French people and political correctness and you could tell that Vic was not going to tolerate this much longer. Fortunately, the free drinks helped. One day they got drunk together (on Icon's stash of undiluted whiskey, the one he kept away from his regular customers) and peace was made. It was wholeheartedly agreed that Icon would refrain from further comments about French ancestry and sunburnt armpits, and Vic agreed to put up with Icon's endless conspiracy theories. And finally, there was some grumbling about the MOFO rankings. Several of the industrious citizens of TA1ville started mistaking being mentioned in the rankings for having to participate in each and every race. You could tell that some were starting to see this as a burden. Merlion was quick to explain that you don't really need to compete every single time. The Silver Yoke has either 9 or 8 races (the current one has 9) and if you stay away once or twice you can still end up with an honourable result. The Sequoia Cup, 26 races, is even more spread out. Scoring in these leagues is not just a matter of scoring points; it is also the trick of not getting burnt out. After a few races the differences are big enough for you to afford to take a break, forego a win or a fifth place or whatever; and come back stronger next race. That's what makes a winner in the long run. Faye, am I right? So don't worry. The MOFOs will be published after every event. It would't be fair to others for anyone to pick and choose which events count, and which don't. And fortunately that's not necessary. So see you all at the other side of San Francisco, and have fun whatever you choose to do! Cheers, M.
