Thanks, Faye, that makes a lot of sense. I guess I was so concerned with making maximum profits that I forgot to think tactically. Most of my fleet are running long haul at the moment so I haven't set up any class 1 jobs. Got any tips for routes that would benefit from your system?
It looks like the Big Guns, Gus and Vic, are sitting this one out. I was going to exclude myself from the prize if I made it to the Top 10 by the time Padang ends (since I don't need Starship or Huey). Your real competition for the #1 spot is SuperPenguin (currently at 1400 jobs) ... and the Top 10 entry point at the moment is 316 jobs. There's still 2 and a half days to chip away at it. It's a quick 7 to 10 minute turnaround time between Jakarta & Padang, so fly a few Kangaroos between those cities while you're watching TV. Upgrade Jakarta so more jobs will show up. Advertise Padang (to generate more jobs in other cities). And if you are able, fly a couple of bigger planes to bring Padang jobs to Jakarta (for your Kangaroos to pick up and deliver to Padang). Don't give up hope. It can't hurt to try.
Are you focusing on maximizing profits? (I'm not a good person to ask about that since I don't play for profit) A good place to start would be the 2nd link in my signature below ... it will point out some of the forum posts detailing various strategies/tips. Straighter-line routes will yield better profits. Some Examples: Rio - Kinshasa - Mumbai - Shanghai Seoul/Shanghai - Istanbul - New York - and LA if you want to go further (this would require a Cyclone to make the Istanbul-NY hop) Load plane for 25% bonus. Avoid the speed upgrade on your planes as this would cut into profits.
Or were you asking about setting up for the Padang event? Vic has a couple of posts (the links are on that post, see 2nd link in my signature) outlining strategies that can be used for global events. Take a lookie, they're good reads. Here's what I'm doing for Padang: -- Class 1 planes (sea knight, kangaroo) pick up Padang jobs in Jakarta and deliver to Padang. They make a round-trip without stopping in Padang (yes, they fly back to Jakarta empty). -- Jakarta is fully upgraded (more jobs, more layover spots) -- Class 3 planes (cyclone) hang out in other class 3 airports, filling up with Padang jobs and then fly to Jakarta to drop them off (where they become layovers) ... once they drop off Padang jobs, they fly back to nearby cities to repeat the process. -- Advertise Padang.
I think of Robert Downey Jr everytime someone types "RDJ" for Rio. How did you zoom out of the map to get that screen shot? I still can't see as far as Australia when I'm zoomed out all the way and match up Alaska on the left (like in your screen shot).
Yep, that's an issue, but the goal of Merlion's MORONS is to encourage all of us to fly those damn planes! Not all events top 10 are squatted by high levels. For this one, I see lynsee13 in 6th level 22. the competition is tough I agree, but that was kind of the idea! As Faye, I would drop my prize though. Also for newer players, I and others regularly do rare plane parts giveaways for fellow TouchArcade1 crew members. Mostly with rare parts from former full plane events we managed to get loads off We did one with hot Air balloon parts not long ago. Honestly I would do more gifting if it wasn't such a chore now with hundreds of parts and more than a hundred GC friends. Heck, I can't even see players below level 25 I do hope gifting will be upgraded!
Faye has it right.. All I'm doing is flying 3 Sea Knight from Jakarta to Padang (returning empty) and have a C130 bringing a few layover from Tokyo.. Fully upgraded Jakarta and advertising Padang. Unless I have two planes land at once I don't even need the layovers.
You hit the nail on the head, Vic. I have plenty of planes to give away and I regularly see posts from lower level players that I could accommodate. But it's just too difficult. In order to give something to a newbie, not only will I have to link up (easy enough) but I'll have to throw out a number of existing friends in order to see the new dude(tte). And it's almost impossible to figure out who to throw out and who to keep. End result: I just let it pass. A bloody shame, I know. You'd almost want to set up a 'gifting tree.' Couple of players with lots of lower level friends (and only a few high level ones) that the others can gift to so that they in turn can give it to the newbies. I know, that sounds too complicated as well. Or NimbleBit could fix this, of course. Argh, what am I saying? Evidently that's more unlikely than any of the above... Cheers, M.
I have an iPhone5 (for what that's worth). Go to the map. hit the minus sign until it doesn't do anything else. Screen-cap. zoom-in with the plus.
The above is excellent strategy for Class 1 events, and I do pretty much the same thing. For those curious, my plane layout is as follows: I opened Jakarta and dropped in a couple SeaKnights and one Kangaroo-P (to make up for the inevitable inbalance caused by SK's 2P/3C configuration. They load up Padang and I send them on a rounder (back from Padang to Jakarta empty). I have a Cyclone-M in each of London, Paris, Tehran, Shanghai and Tokyo, basically all my permanent Class 3's east of London. I'm not bothering with LA or NY because of being so far away. And I'm out of slots .
Faye has given an excellent strategy for Padang (and class 1 events in general). I have one more point to add to her previous post about "Avoid the speed upgrade on your planes as this would cut into profits. " I don't upgrade my big planes' speed. But for my class 1 planes (and class 2 areoeagles) that I use a lot, I upgrade their speed and weight. Reason being that: 1. I use these planes a lot for class 1/2 events, and they often fly back empty (like in this case). 2. Class 1 planes are cheap to upgrade (compared to a whopping 73 bux of a cloudliner which Vic has upgraded.)
That's impressive with only 3 SeaKnights! And now leading with 2000 jobs. Well done! I found myself ranked #2 earlier today and decided to slow down a bit in an attempt to drop down below Top 10 ... hope this make it easier for Pondus to see who all are in the Top 10 when Padang ends. Well we'll see how that goes. I love doing the Global Events because I am lazy ... it is soooooo much easier to just scroll down to the blue set of jobs than to actually look for a specific white city job. Maybe I'll spend more time playing Mafia Wars. I think some have actually used this workaround in the past. I agree helping the newer players can be challenging, I recently sent something to someone who barely made my list, was second to last at the bottom. Definitely better if gifting could be improved within the game ... increase number of people listed and get rid of all that damn scrolling to find parts. I'd also like some sort of "jump to first loaded job" button ... so I can easily figure out what I was trying to load on a plane when I come back to it after a job refresh. Ah.... it must be the iPhone 5. I zoomed out as much as I could with the minus sign. Closer cities is definitely quicker and more efficient. I've sent some of my big planes out as far as LA to pick up Padang jobs. My fleet is pretty chaotic, my big planes aren't assigned specific cities. Once they unload Padang jobs in Jakarta, they fly out to whatever jobs they happen to pick up. Make one pass to fill with jobs some city. Job list will have refreshed by the time I go through all my planes, then I make a 2nd pass to top off with jobs to the same city, then the plane takes off (regardless of whether it is full).
Only problem with that is that I am crazy busy at work today (what are people thinking its Friday I should be relaxing and thinking about the weekend not working hard) then going out for a meal and am busy most of tomorrow too so at the moment 316 is the entry number for the top ten (probably higher as I type this) but by the time I get to give it a good go the bottom player will be probably in the thousands. Going to still keep going though, am in the top 50 currently with very little play time if I can stay there this time round then I will consider that a success. I have more free time next weekend so might give it a decent push for the next event, hopefully its another plane one from Nimblebit too as well as the MORONS
New Member Hi all! I love PP so far and have cut my teeth on a few global events now under the IGN flight crew. IGN usually come in around 9 or 10 overall. My next global will be with TA1 and I will add my name to the spreadsheet within the week. My GC handle is warbird11 My PP stats are: Level 23 23 of 51 airports using 14 of 15 plane slots (until the next event) ~ $1M ~ 400 Bx
Can anyone post a current top10 list? I know I've asked this before and it's been brought up lots of times, but... What do you wish for in a future update? My number one wish when doing events like this is MORE layover slots! Edit- Welcome Scotty-G
I've never seen that before. What kind of occupation are you running anyway? And you were in Tokyo when you got it? Scotty-G aka warbird11
Worked all day yesterday on sending planes to Padang, wokeup to check my counter, hasn't moved since 558, I'm pretty sure I'm passed 1000
Here's a current top 10. Sorry I don't know who 3, 9 or 10 are. But 10 is at 646. (Having trouble getting picture attached for some reason)
