Probably the only major reason I am is because no strategy really applies unless you have a lot of Sequoias. I am trying to run a hybrid of Castle and Vic's bux system with a lot of aero and pears still. Because it doesn't work for my setup(must have sequoia's), it appears to not work...so I scrap it in frustration. Same way when I started, I saved and built up 29 class 3 airports and had about 15 class 1 and 2 planes built and parts for another 15 or so. That's when I realized I was just as cash poor and bux poor as when I started. So, I took to these boards to find out "winning" in the traditional sense (more you have the better) was not how you play this game at all. Since then I have tried a bunch of different strategies only to grow frustrated with them. Then the other day, I discovered Merlion's strategy...which isn't really anything except buy every damn city and don't play as much...and the game becomes funner. As I said before I'll keep grinding (sitting in this long poker tourney) and waiting for a light to come on(that aha moment) or I'll eventually give it up.
I saw something a little ways back where someone said you had the best strategy...but I couldn't find it and don't see it on the strategy page. Care to share it?
Appreciate the simplification. I read your original post & never made it all the way through, I admit. First stopped at "cai" & it took me maybe 10 seconds to figure out what city that represented. Stopped at "paired red/yellow Cloudliners" when my brain screamed "TMI!" & my eyes promptly skipped to next post in the queue missing the actual "tip" in the body of your message. This subsequent post, boiling ideas down to their essence, was extremely helpful. Thanks. Am I saying or implying that the forum should cater to the newbie & less to the advanced among you sharing clever strategies? Absolutely not. I'm merely speaking up from time to time when someone consciously or subconsciously acknowledges that not everyone is or strives to be at the same level. This is a simple thanks, no more. PP is a complex game that I learned/continue to learn bit by bit with this forum as my tutorial. I can't help but think that there are many others out there like me. Hopefully I'm expressing their gratitude as well.
Not really a problem because they ONLY bring Bux layovers and NY jobs to NY. And when they're elsewhere, they do not sit waiting for Bux jobs, they fill in 2 or 3 rounds with the new Bux jobs and the NY jobs. So each plane bring only 1 or 2 Bux jobs each as they load mainly NY jobs. And as they go back to Seoul for example, they load in NY the Seoul Bux layovers and the normal Seoul jobs. I was using complicated schemes for coin job layovers until lvl 40 sthg I guess. When I was still chasing coins. But at one point, I realized it was way more easier to focus only on Bux jobs layovers. You scroll faster with only a dozen layovers on each airport than with 50! Also with fewer airports, the job pool is bigger so you usually can fill a Sequoia or Cyclone in 1 to 3 refresh.
Ahh ok I see. I wanted to try this strategy, so I was filling my planes with ten Bux jobs (not 10-Bux jobs), then bringing it to 1 city. Six or seven Sequoias later, I was facing layover problems with additional planes waiting to unload! Not a very well-thought out scheme on my part...
I never actually published a strategy for bux. I think when I did it, Vic's original explanation was the one I started with, and that is probably 500 pages back in its original form. From that point, I think everyone develops his or her own variations based on the airports available etc.- it has got to be on the strategy page, though.
Thks for your thks I guess I felt my first post was too complicated. It's sometimes difficult to explain simple things, even more so when you're not a native speaker (as many others here). I would add I was explaining my actual strategy for the NY event, not implying this is the way to go for everyone of course. This strategy needs a lot of airplanes firepower, only a few airports etc... But I was stunned by the number of jobs I was able to do whithout having the impression to play that much, compared to previous times when I achieved this kind of numbers. I played maybe one hour today and did add a thousand jobs more! So the 200/300 NY jobs in 15/20 minutes is an actual number. It does add up with 3/4th of my fleet being sent in the air in this timeframe: 54 planes (more than 600 C/P slots) half of them going to NY, the other half going out of NY. And it got me a lot of Bux too
Finally cracked the top 10 in TA1... I'm shooting for top 5 but its tough with only 18 planes. Something else that had my curiosity up -- a lot of us have to play this game fairly constantly to get this amount of jobs. I'm curios what everyone does job wise. If anyone else cares to tell, I'll start.. I own oil production and basically sit in my truck most of the day driving to and from oil wells .. Who's next?
^ I'm a hairdresser and, as a result, I don't have a lot of time during the week to send planes around the world (well, Europe and the United States, anyway). And how I wish Father Christmas was like this for me three weeks ago:
I work in a laboratory which produces medicines that are used in chemotherapy for patients that have leukemia. So i don't have much time to play during the day, since i'm stuck in a glass jar most of the day. When i get home i usually play a couple of hours if i the wife and kids let me.
Made a mess of my airport. Opened up a Kangaroo route from LA to Tokyo. Problem was it was killing my bux collection. I have a new bux strategy and if it works I will post it. In theory it should rake it in. But I guess we will see. As soon as the blimp stops I will close the route and restart. Fly on!

This is very wise. Play the way that is fun for you. Copy other people's strategies if you find that strategy to be fun, but don't be afraid to do something different if you think that is fun as well. Just keep in mind some basics: * At the beginning you need coin more than bux; later on you need bux and coin is easy to get; eventually both are easy to get * Try to get the 25% bonus if you need coin * Don't hesitate to layover your bux jobs to save them for later while you are collecting coin * Upgrade weight on your planes to maximize coin * Go for longest distances to maximize coin and bux
Response Hi MacSym42. I meant to respond last night, sorry you had to quote yourself. Nothing really stood out in terms of recommendations. I don't see anything wrong with this approach; it seems pretty good, and pretty easy to implement. You won't know if any of the details are off until you try it. If you end up with too many layovers accumulating you'll need to increase the number of delivery planes. If the destinations are starved you'll need more transatlantics. One thing to consider if your class 1 planes are the limiting factor would be to launch them as a round trip, not stopping in the destination city. Then after they dump their load you will notice the cost to return them home is just 1 bux for a boost. I do this all the time for class 1 events, but it would be kinda expensive if this is your normal bux accumulating strategy. Let us know how it works out for ya! Quoted for truth. That is very well said indeed, Merlion! I'm definitely going to play more with some of these fine ideas. Thanks. @Vic Sark, if you're reading, great job on your "simplification" post - that was great
EEEEEKS!!!! EVERYBODY FREEZE!!!! DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING!!! Just wait for one of the Usual Suspects (you know who you are) to populate it with the latest backup. (I've been out sick so can already tell you my backup is NOT the latest, dated Jan 6, 2013 at 10:25AM GMT)
Working on it. My last backup was at New York event start. Edit: Everything back except current jobs/rank placings for New York, as well as final rankings for Lima (looks like my last backup was about 2H before Lima ended)
