Stuck layovers -help I have three layover passengers in San francisco that are stuck. Their load buttons are always grayed out, even when I pull a completely empty plane in for loading. I can't figure out why I can't put them on a plane. Has this happened to anybody else? I can click their x boxes to get rid of them, but I want to deliver them to their destinations. One is a two buck fare, which I'd hate to lose.
This game is fantastic, but driving me nuts!! I am not a very analytical person, which does not help - useless at chess, for instance... Anyway, I am on Level 23, but finding it hard to come up with a strategy that really produces large quanitites of coins, and especially bux. I have just noticed on other websites that the revenue per item is calculated as distance + 50. Now, either I'm doing something really stoopid, or I am not getting anywhere near that!! For instance, a passenger going from Los Angeles to Seattle right now is valued at 191 coins. According to the Rusty Snowman's site (great tools!!), the distance is actually 565 miles. So shouldn't my revenue be 615???!!! I'm wondering if the revenue calculation gets less generous the higher level you achieve, because it looks like I am getting distance divided by 3 (approx). Can any kind PP Wizard help?
What I do for Bux is FILL my plane. Preferably a Sequioa. (mainly a mixed one) Using layovers helps too. It may take AGES to fill but when you've got ten 7-10 Bux passengers/ cargo it's worth it.
At that level I began saving for Cloudliners and grabbed any bux jobs I could, even at a loss or forgoing coin jobs. The bux jobs became layovers and when there was an airport near full of them, I sent them on their way, not worrying about the bonus. I managed to gather well over 4000 bux this way, but it did take time.
Well I ended up with quite the log jam at my airports over night. NY and Shanghai are at full 60/60 capacity with planes waiting to offload. Oops. I may have to make some adjustments. Thinking about using two planes, one out of Paris and one out of London to move some middle traffic and perhaps pick up some of the missed bux jobs. Running Mexico, Chicago, Los Angeles to New York and Seoul, Tokyo, Bejing to Shanghai it feels like I am missing out on a lot of stuff. So here is my thinking. I add one plane that goes from London to NY back to Paris. The other plane goes from Paris to Shanghai and back to London. Hoping this lets me get more bux jobs and keep some traffic moving.
This is what I love about this game, there's a million different ways to play and at the end of the day they all work. I would have never thought to set up shop in the middle of the map like you did in Paris/London, that's a great idea. Then using double class 3 end points at different place to keep layovers flowing quickly. What kind of attention does this set up require? A Cyclone from the middle to either side is like a 20-30 minute flight right?
Which is cheaper to fly? Tetra or Fogbuster? Both fully upgraded weight. Flying Mosow, London, and New York.
That's what I'm doing. Spent loads of Bux buying and upgrading Sequioas. I had 10 Bux left earlier and now I have nearly 300. I'm almost at level 25 so gonna start saving for a couple of Cyclones then Cloudliners.
There really are a ton of different ways to play. And screw up. I figured out part of my logjam. I am sending my long distance planes off too fast. They all end up on one side of the world at once. Going to have to change name and colour and try and send a pair at the same time, one from NY and one from Shanghai.
hey y'all, I've got a question. I have a bad habit at taking all the bux jobs I see, which leave me w/o bonus and all that jazz. should I just let them go? or how do you guys handle this?
Update on the "ezmage" method Things are going very well so far. I have 13 Sequias in the air at present, just abotu to add 2 more and there are more than enough jobs to go around. I've made around 400k for no more than an hour's actual play (over the course of a few hours). Shuttling each plane around the airports on the continent it is on works, I am dropping off all cargo at either Rio or Shanghai. Once I have 8 or over for any destination I fill it up and keep shuttling (using the extra space for quick fares) until it is full, then i send it on it's way. I make between 10500k and 14000k a job profit, not to mention that bux passengers or cargo net around 7-8 a time!
Do the Bux flights. Some flights I do with my Sequioas lose me about 6,000 coins. One coin flight with the 25% bonus makes me 14,000-17,000 coins so losing a few doesn't really matter.
I'm curious about how you're getting a logjam, I've only had that happen to me once or twice and it was due to me pulling so many local jobbers that I filled up the layovers. Once I stopped starting with local jobbers I haven't had that problem anymore. In fact now I'm having to send planes back to the outlying cities a little more often because I don't have enough layovers. What planes and how many are you using and what city setup?
Jobs can take a while to show up on the leaderboards due to caching on both the device and the server.
Suggest u to read several pages in this thread, pick up the long posts for reading. There's plenty of good tips and u just have to spend some time to pick them up. And the beauty of the game is, u don't have to use one route or one method, it is even more fun to get there by yourself...
In retrospect it would've been a good idea for someone to collect all the big long strategy posts and throw them on a free blog or something somewhere so that newer people can access them easily. The thread is 520 pages now? That's a ~lot~ to dig through to try to find the good info... I think there's a pocketplanes FAQ out there somewhere that probably has good info also if anyone can share the link to that.
Right now it is a mix of Aeroeagles and Sequoias with a couple of Fogbusters. I realized my mistake just now. Totally read things backwards. But now this line makes perfect sense. I have been dropping all the jobbers off in NY and grabbing say all Chicago for the bonus and flying to Chicago. Instead I should have dropped off jobbers and picked up say all Tokyo and then flew that play across to Tokyo. Going to attempt to rectify the issue.
Ah awesome, yeah the way I'm using layovers now isn't as a storage method but as a "complete my 10 and move" method. When I have 3 Sequoias all heading to, say, Shanghai, all full of a mix of people and cargo that want to head to the 4 South America ports, odds are pretty good that at least one of them is going to be able to complete a set once they all unload. And now that I've been running it for a few days it's very very rare that I have to send a plane back because it can't fill to one of the ports. The odd problem I have been having though is that since I load from the top of the jobber list to the bottom I tend to have more planes flying to Lima from Asia than anywhere else which creates a line for loading when I come back to the game which is kind of the pits.
