Problem is if one crew wins every time by such high margins everyone moves to that crew making it worse. Not sure how nimble it's fixes it now. Crews should have had a limit to crew numbers right out the gate. I am wondering if they have done something to block users moving to touch arcade since I have seen. Post or two recently about people nt being able to join or rejoin. I guess nimble it's could also start screwing around with the prizes to make first worth less as they ave in this event.

Can anyone quickly sum up what the draw to this game is?
I see it's got over 5000 posts in the topic!.

So it got to have something special:)

    Thx

I didn't even realize the price distribution for the new event. I came in 7th on the last one and have 9 starships I can barely make money. Guess I'll do the smaller events this time.

I just saw the prizes! that's really funny. I think their plan is to move toucharcade members to the top 10 crews to make things more even and actually give the other teams a chance for later events. but can someone please clarify whether or not we can change crew teams w/o staying permanent?

I think the prize thing is funny and completely the wrong way of tackling the issue.

Regardless im going to stay loyal to TA, 15 bucks is nothing really :),

So the starship is über cool but utterly worthless. It's disappointing that flying it is a loss but I'm glad to have one in my hanger.

So thank you, toucharcade airlines, for such dedication to the pocket planes events! I've been a small time contributor since the second event after its release. And even if we get fewer bux for winning the Singapore event, I'm staying the course with you! Into the wild blue yonder!

We could all just do the minimum 5 flights and not worry about switching crews.

Lol. I'd say back to business as normal but I'm still waiting for the hangar bug to be fixed before revamping my fleet!

They don't lose upgrades of stats immediatedly. But if you close the app from the pop up task bar on the iPhone / Pad and reopen it, wait a while or leave it longer than 24 hours, you lose it all. It's a known issue that is being fixed in the next update (which should be no later than another 2 days)

    See following link; https://getsatisfaction.com/nimblebit/topics/plane_upgrades_lost_after_being_in_the_hangar

I found that quite amusing too! There won't be a massive drop in TA members because 15 bux is nothing to most of us above level 10 or so. We're already at 63,000+ jobs with seconds place at 12,000+. What did the dev's used to post here, I never realised they had come and gone??

Damn good effort PocketPlaneGod! You did pretty well :p I'll be your competition next time though, be warned! lol

Is there a way to find out who the other crews are seeing as how it doesn't say in the leaderboards?

    Trade

Would anybody like to trade me a plane for my starship? I'll take planes aeroeagle and higher (class three preferably) my game center name is my username!

I just saw the prizes for the most recent event: Hilarious. I agree with people that posted earlier talking about how this is the completely wrong way to deal with the problem. It's not a big difference at all, and most people aren't going to really care about the 15 bux in the long run (or the short term) but it's silly to punish first place.

Maybe they could but some kind of coin cost per event and have that cost reflect the number of people in the crew. Have some kind of pop up the first time you connect to flightcrew at the start of the event: "TOUCHARCADE currently has X (Can make it a range, or an over so that you don't give out the exact number) members. To participate in this crew in this event will cost X coins. Do you wish to participate?" And then even if you say no you can still deliver event people to the port, they just won't count towards the crew's total until you actually "join" for that event through the flightcrew menu. I think this would go much farther towards discouraging huge crews like ours since the cost of being a part of it would greatly exceed the reward.

Anyone else think that tetras are a big step down after sequoa's?

I skipped Tetras. I ~really~ liked sequoias but shifted them all out for Cyclones when I got to that level. Wish I had skipped Cloudliners.

When I saw the prizes, I figured I'd switch crew for this event. About 5 minutes later I switched back to TA. However, I never got my starship, even though I did way more than 5 jobs on the event.

I do have one starship in parts for doing mystery jobs, but I just want one in my hangar, without it costing me extra bux...

I just think everyone has to do less jobs. I closed down Singapore after 24 jobs, should have closed it after 10 or so I guess. I'm working on the award cities now, Honolulu done, nearly finished easter island. Once I've done all the cities, I will work on the other awards.

    Big honkin' post (part 1)

(This had to be turned into two posts since I was over the character limit... first post is how I used to do things. Skip to the post below it for how I'm doing things now)

Hey all, been a while since I've posted one of these giant monster strategy posts, figured I was due. Plus I've made some drastic changes to the way I play recently that I wanted to get out there and get some feedback on. And it'll be a nice change of pace for the thread for the people that are reading (hopefully) from all the starship grief and Nimblebit screwing.

Initial notes: All planes are fully weight upgraded (even feeders). Cloudliners and Cyclones are fully range upgraded to make their trips. Feeders are not range upgraded because they don't need to be. Nothing is speed upgraded (sped up feeders may have been a solution to the problem I run into, but I don't think it speeds up enough to make a big enough distance since the problem I run into is game-mechanics based). Also I had advertising on for New York, Chicago, Beijing and Shanghai at all times that I was playing (which adds up...fast, close to 240k every eight hours being drained).

First off, here's the way I used to run things:

Double route, Chicago ---> Shanghai ; New York ---> Beijing.

Both routes used Istanbul as the go-between. I had 8 Cyclones in two groups of 4 going from New York to Beijing with full range upgrades, and I had 4 cloudliners (2p and 2c) in two groups, along with 2 Cyclones (that had to use N.Y. to make the trip) going from Chicago to Beijing. All of my planes had full weight upgrades to reduce flight cost.

That's 14 big planes running back and forth with a general flight time around 56mins. Cloudliners would net somewhere around 14-16k profit per trip, Cyclones would be in the 11-12k range.

The big thing to keep track of in this set up is layovers. My New York route would drain 12x4, 48 layovers on each side of the route every hour. I would try to space the Cyclones out for that each would land on a different new job pulse and hopefully be able to pull some jobbers just from the airport itself, not dipping into layovers, but sometimes I wouldn't get lucky and would have to drain my layovers.

My Chicago route would drain 17x2 +12 for 46 layovers, on each side, each hour.

Using Aeroeagles to fill that means that each hour (less actually) I needed to have 8 full Aeroeagles unload in New York, Chicago, Beijing and Shanghai. This was...stressful. I have 22 plane slots, with 14 of them already being used that leaves me with 8 available feeders. I put 3 on the Asia side and 5 on the North America side. The reason for this is because the feeders in North America are ~way~ to far away.

In Asia I had one Aeroeagle that did nothing but go back and forth from Beijing to Shanghai. Beijing would load Chicago, go to Shanghai, unload, load New York, head back. If I recall correctly the flight time here is somewhere around 5-6mins. So that's (in a perfect world) a full Eagle every 10-12 mins laying over. There was also one Eagle for Shanghai that did nothing but Shanghai to Tokyo and one Eagle that did nothing but Beijing to Tokyo. I forget the flight time here but it's probably somewhere around 6 mins. So again, perfect world, 6 layovers from that plane every 12 mins or so.

So, in Asia, if I'm getting about 12 layovers every 12 mins or so, I'll hit my 48 in about 48 mins. That's leaves...very little room for error if my big planes are landing every 54-58 mins or so. The problem occurs when I don't get that full Eagle to move as soon as it lands, and that happens fairly frequently. So if you look at my times, if I have to keep a single plane grounded for five minutes to wait for a new-job pulse (which rarely is the case, it's usually a smaller amount of time) I'm pretty much dead in the water. If I have to wait for two of my planes to wait for a new job pulse, I'm now behind in layovers and hoping that I get lucky when the plane lands and have some non-layover jobbers to plug in. If I had upgraded the speed on my feeders I don't think I would have fixed the problem because the jobbers are either there or they aren't when you land. I might be able to squeeze in an extra new-job pulse or two per hour, but didn't really think it would make that much of a difference. Plus that would drive up my feeder costs which is something I didn't want to do.

In North America I had one Eagle that went back and forth between N.Y. and Chicago, another 5-6 min flight. The problem here is that the flight time from Chicago to L.A. is like 13 mins? And from N.Y. to L.A. is like 18 mins? So for Chicago, in a perfect world I'm getting six layovers every TWENTY SIX MINUTES, which means I only get 12 layovers from that plane in the hour. Coupled with the 6 every 12 minutes from the other, I'm looking at 42 layovers to Chicago in each hour, which puts me under the number that I need in a perfect world with no stoppage. New York comes out even worse because I'm not getting two full trips each hour from the N.Y. to L.A. Eagle. To help fix this problem I added two Sequoias, one from Chicago to L.A., one from N.Y. to L.A. Now I'm adding another 10 layovers every pulse, roughly. This puts me in a comfortable place in a perfect world. This also adds another problem.

Now I'm not just in trouble waiting for the new job pulses, I'm waiting longer (Sequoias carry 4 more layovers than Eagles, I think maybe once or twice in the time I had this going the Sequoia actually filled full in L.A. when it landed and didn't have to wait) and I have the problem of having both feeders waiting in L.A. at the same time. I might have done better with two more Eagles rather than Sequoias, but this seemed to solve my problem good enough.

So at the end of the day this strategy "worked". If I had been able to add another feeder on each end to go between the two main ports I would have had NO problems at all, I was playing like that for a bit, but found that I oftentimes was overfull on layovers, so I subbed two feeders out for the Cyclones in the Chicago to Shanghai route.

    Pros for this setup:
    1) Makes a lot of money. Somewhere around 180k/hr. My avg. daily was 2.16 million when I stopped but I'm sure I was actually making more than that.

    2) Bux collection is super easy. Since I'm so streamlined and have feeders moving ALL THE TIME I rarely miss bux jobs. I was probably netting around 800-1000 bux a day just playing my route normal, I didn't have to go out of my way to collect or transport bux at all.

    Cons for this setup:
    1) Stressful. Since everything relies on everything else in this setup, if one feeder plane gets grounded it screws EVERYTHING up. I had this happen more than once where my routes ground to a halt because I ran out of layovers and had to fill my big planes with local jobbers while waiting for my feeders to fill to transport over.

    2) Very time demanding and consuming. This setup takes about a half hour to start rolling correctly. And once it starts rolling you need to pay constant attention to it to keep it rolling. That means that when I woke up in the morning I had to spend about 30 mins before everything was working correctly, which stinks.

    3) Very dependent on the whims of the game. If the game doesn't want to give you the proper bitizens for your feeders, you're screwed. If the game doesn't want to give you local jobbers at your main ports to buffer your layover drain, you're screwed.

So I stopped playing like this. For anyone that has the time and dedication to run something like this, I can tell you it works. I skyrocketed up the leaderboards while I was doing this. I think I got to 38th in the world for miles traveled before shutting it down. It works well. For future plans I was going to add a third South America to Asia route and that would have worked as well.

    Big honkin' post (part 2)

So now here's how I'm playing now. I call it "ONLY SEQUOIAS", and since we're all fairly intelligent individuals I bet you can guess what planes I'm using. I looked at how I was playing the game and decided that I didn't want to quit but that I couldn't keep paying 100% attention to it. So I figured I wanted to still do well while not having to keep track of a million different variables. I'm using Sequoias because they give me the most coin for each person/cargo I transport, since I'm not checking in regularly my priority is not having to manage layovers at all to keep things going smoothly.

    Here's how I do it:

Since I'm using sequoias my route is South America to Asia (for straightness). The route is Rio de Janeiro to (Beijing/Seoul/Tokyo/Shanghai) and Shanghai to (Rio de Janeiro/Sao Paulo/Lima/Beunos Aires) My in-between ports are Kinshasa and Bangalore. Each Sequoia needs one range upgrade to make Kinshasa to Lima, but otherwise just weight upgrades for cost reduction.

Each Sequoia in this set up is its own beast, no feeding, no cross-reliance (well, very minor). The rules are simple:

    1) If Sequoia is not in Rio or Shanghai, fill from top to bottom of available jobbers and fly to Rio or Shanghai. (Example: Sequoia in Lima picks up all Tokyo, then Seoul, then Shanghai, then Beijing. If it can't fill, it plugs up the holes with Rio jobbers to reduce the flight cost.)

    2) If Sequoia is in Rio or Shanghai, it unloads all jobbers it has, then fills for bonus to any Asia airport. (My Lima plane hits Rio, unloads, fills with Seoul, off it goes.)

    3) If Sequoia is in Rio or Shanghai and can NOT fill for bonus, fill as much as possible for other South America/Asia airport to reduce cost (or generally make a small amount). (Example, Lima plane can't fill for Asia after unloading, instead fills for Beunos Aires, heads there for a small profit, starts at step 1.)

That's it. It works because as the planes come to Rio or Shanghai, they're dropping off jobbers that will inevitably be used by other planes. I keep my bonuses, I keep my flow, I don't have to check in at all if I don't want to. Flight time from one end to the other is around an hour and a half.

The only problem I've run into is when the layover pool starts leaning heavy towards Cargo or People. To solve this I've added one Sequoia C and one Sequoia P that only run when they can fill entirely with layovers. So far it's kept my layover pool in check.

    Pros:

    1) It's ~simple~. Each plane does its own thing. If I only want to fly one or two planes, I can fly one or two planes and still profit. If I can sit down and fly all of my planes, I'm free to do that as well.

    2) It still turns a respectable profit. I'm certainly losing leaderboard position now, but I decided that wasn't really very important to me.

    3) It's very check-in-irregularly friendly. It doesn't take me a half hour to get things rolling in the morning. I don't have to check in every 5 mins to catch the new-jobs pulse to make things run.

    4) Very flexible. I can drop out a few Sequoias to do events or achievements and not kill my entire setup since I'm not dependent on feeders or big planes to gobble up layovers.

    5) Easy to add to. In my old setup, and any feeder setup I've run, I couldn't just add another big plane. I had to add them in pairs or else my feeder draw would get weird and things would get gummed up on one end and not the other. Not really a big problem but it irritated me. With this set up I can add as many Sequoias as I want!
    Cons:

    1) It's slow. If you have tons of time to devote to the game and want to be playing it non-stop, this is not for you. I can generally get everything running in about 5 mins or so since there's no thought involved or waiting for pulses. And then the game generally doesn't need me for another 8 or 9 mins. If I get everything going long distance it's not going to need me for about an hour.

    2) Bux come in slow. There's been a ~serious~ drop off in my bux gain since I started doing this. I no longer have planes moving all the time and landing and picking up and moving so I don't catch as many bux. I've added a Kangaroo-M to each side to give me something to do more often if I wanted and to gather bux, but it's still super slow.

    3) It's not the most efficient/profitable way to play.

    4) I now have 10 Cyclone and 8 cloudliners that I'm probably never going to use again. That's a lot of lost bux, whups. Anyone has Sequoias-Ms that they want to trade me those guys, PM me, maybe we can set something up. (Hah, look at me trying to hide a trade request on the wrong thread at the bottom of a page-long post after yelling at people for trading here, SHH! Don't tell anyone).

So there you go, that took me way to long to post, but that's not a problem because my airline isn't lagging behind like it used to! Yay! I'll post an update in a few days and let you know how well my Sequoia set up actually does, since I just started it yesterday. So far I'm loving it though.

As always, any questions/comments/criticisms are greatly appreciated! Just keep in mind the goal of my new route: User friendliness!

(And if anyone is wondering that was a 2310 word, 4 page Pocket Planes essay >.>)

I am level 15 and wondering which plane is better, the Birchcraft or the Equinox?
The equinox as a whole plane is cheaper, faster and has longer range, and is lighter, while the birchcraft holds more people...
    So which is best???:):)

    Thanks!

I love the strategy, it really fits me, and I think I will do that as I get to later levels (I'm only level 16). I think your old strategy is the way big airline companies do it (but I have never been on a plane so don't hate on me if I'm wrong). But yes, awesome strategy. Ive been looking for a good one that's flexible and fits me. Thanks so much!
