No, you said they should close their class 1s without even knowing what airports and planes they had. You threw out a strategy that only improves profit earning under a specific class of airport layout and "population" of airplanes. Those bigger & faster planes cost more to operate, so if you haven't built up a set of class 2/3 airports far enough apart as well as upgraded them sufficiently to hold the amount of layovers and have the amount of job variety necessary to take advantage of the class 2 planes then you actually hurt your earnings over time. And all of this assumes that you can put the time into make any given combination of airports and airplanes work optimally (which nearly no one ever can for long).

The short answer to anyone complaining they're not earning much is to tell them to play more. There is no magic bullet other than that.

Heh, I love classic keyboard warrior stuff like this ;) You assume the fact that you're designing your strategy around scoring the big payouts from the bigger planes means the bigger planes are the way to go.

My top 5 earners are indeed mostly class 2s.

What is being missed is that the reason the class 1s are profiting less is that I'm using them to ferry mixed groups inefficiently by design to bigger hubs so I can score the transcontinental bonus from the Birchcraft. So, yes, I am earning more per hour from the bigger planes, but only because I am, by choice, earning less per hour from the shorter hopping mixed destination class 1s, and the reason I'm doing that is I'm trying to grow the spread of airports so I can make the same money with less time spent playing.

You need *a* strategy to make more money, you don't need a particular strategy.

Yah I don't see why a fun discussion has to be so analyzed. You're welcome to a difference in opinion, so why not just state it as "well IMO . . ." and move on?

To each his own, guys. I think both strategies are lucrative. It all depends on the player. For people who have all the time in the world then go ahead with the short-distance strategy; for those who have work/school, I would say long-distance flights are more suitable.

    Let there be peace :)

I agree. A lot of people can't play all day. I have school as well, so I just use short distance flights 15-20 minutes, and update everything once all planes have landed at school. Then I come home, and play all day after studying, doing short range shipments. It depends on your schedule in a nutshell.

You're missing my point. I'm not trying to be so analytical, quite the opposite, I'm trying to use some analysis to point out that people should not be giving out bad advice as though they've figured out something about a game that takes about as much real strategy to succeed as opening a cereal box, as long as you start at the top and don't use a chainsaw, you'll do fine :D

I realize I'm shouting at the wind, I spent hours crunching spread sheets for Tiny Tower to demonstrate with certainty that all the strategy people were throwing around was, at best, to little effect and usually completely misguided. It was misunderstood, ignored, and lost in the sea of people who thought they knew something, just like here.

The reason Nimblebit has done so well is their games have just enough depth to let you feel like you're doing something but, in reality, they're simple enough that you have to go out of your way to not do well. From the p.o.v. of making casual games that people love, brilliant. Pretty much anything works, everyone feels like a winner, and the difference in outcome between a micromanaged, efficient as possible strategy and a "do whatever you like" strategy is not much. The biggest determinate is your time input, everything else is of much less significance.

Have to say, this thread lasted a good long time before the first 'debate' broke out between two opinions. 244 pages, someone put a foot note on this page.

Wow that is impressive! How many planes do you have devoted to the Global Event? And how have you set up?

I was a late comer to PP so this is my first Global Event. I was happy to be able to participate (easy to join in since I'm based in Europe) but it is sloooooow going for me with just the Kangaroo and Airvan to ferry P/C to Casablanca. I wish I could buy another plane slot. I'm too poor to buy the next plane slot ($378k) ... So I've only managed to do 412 jobs so far (#38 in crew). I'm having fun with the event even though I'm taking a bit more loss of profit in the process (compared to normal game play). I've made a personal goal to try to reach #25 in crew. Gotta set mini goals to keep things interesting. :)

    best strategy

Can anyone recommend the least fun, but most efficient strategy I can use? Ideally I will play for 10-12 hours per day.

Also, I heard that you make more profit if you paint your planes the most displeasing color combinations. Is that true? I've been trying to make my planes as ugly as possible, and I think it's working, but it's too small a sample size for me to tell yet. :(

I didn't track profit as closely at the beginning of the game (when I had only had c1 airports) cuz I hadn't yet discovered the screen listing profit/hour. I gotta say that my game definitely improved after I closed all my c1 airports and started buying c2/c3 airports. I didn't even buy that many c2s, I was focused on saving up for c3s (thinking long term). My only c2 airports are Berlin and Madrid. My c3s comprise London, Paris, Istanbul, Karachi, Jakarta, Bangkok and Sydney. Bangkok is my most recent acquisition so that my Birches can make the hop from Karachi to Jakarta.

My game play improved after ditching the c1 airports because the game became less overwhelming with less micromanaging. I was starting to go crazy going down my list of planes to set them in flight. The planes that took off first were landing by the time I reached the bottom of the list. It was neverending.

(sorry for any typos, replying from iPhone)

    They seem reasonable to me.

The idea for my strategy was just to create as long route as possible (preferably between class 3s), and get as many from one end to the other as possible. If I can't fill planes, I just make a loss-making flight to drop them off closer for another plane to pick up.

I find using Grey, Crimson and Beige increases my planes speed by ~.1%.

With 10-12 hours of play per day, I think you will make tons of coins/Bux regardless of any game play optimization or strategy. :D
Some of us have to work and sleep ;)

I've got my planes color coded as a quick visual cue to indicate whether I should route them left or right of my hub city. My planes were all over the place before I implemented this and I ended up with all my planes bunched up in the same region while other regions lost coverage. I also implemented a naming convention to assist in recognizing which type it is and what P/C/M combos it carries.

    Ex:
4PB (light blue) = 4 passenger Birch servicing cities left of my hub city
4CB (dark blue) = 4 cargo Birch servicing cities right of my hub city
2P2CB (dark blue) = 2 passenger 2 cargo Birch servicing cities right of my hub city
3CEQ (light blue) = 3 cargo Equinox, left of hub
5PPJ (red) = 5 passenger Pearjet (red indicates London-Sydney nonstop flight)

There are many ways to do this. I settled on this after trying different name/color combos cuz it seemed to work best for me. Others have different name/color combos that help them identify planes in their fleet Use whatever method that works best for you.

Just wondering, can a non-upgraded pearjet reach Lagos from Rio? If not how many upgrades are required in order for a pearjet to do so? Thanks in advance ~
