I vote for getting the initial product out the door, with a promise of a "Creation Kit" later on (aka what Bethesda has done with Skyrim). This allows you to focus QA resources on the main game, which 99% of people will care most about at least upon first release. Mention that user generated content will come later, and then after you iron out any bugs, etc, then worry about implementing the modding/user content system.
February Dev Update Hey everyone! I know it's been a little quiet lately but I wanted to let you know that we've just done a new internal release and I wrote a new dev diary post over on our blog talking about it. If you're interested in what we've been working on over the last few weeks, check it out! - http://f5games.com/2012/02/pocket-heroes-february-dev-update/ As always, please let me know what you think!
Awesome Truly awesome news. You seem to be making this into the kind of game people in this thread have been hoping for. Any hints on some other uses for triggers you're thinking of? Maybe incorporating plot elements as triggers? So if I land on a certain tile or any tile past a certain point I hear(read) the cries of the nearby boss or a riddle to finding secret loot (you know, just in case the best loot has to be really hard to get or for giving reasons to replay the main campaign). I think it's also very smart of you guys to create an atmosphere of cooperation vs competition. Though maybe it should be possible to immediately revisit levels with your friends if you can get them to all agree? Great job!
OMG!!! Objects and Triggers!!! HELL YES!!!! This is the most incredible update you did to the game yet!!!! My mind is already flying....seems like a potentially bite sized async CO OP turn based version of Ultima 7. I can only imagine what coders could do with those combined...like how people expanded NeverWinter Nights. I really like the fact that you have to rely on your pals honesty to share your findings examining. I really can't wait....this is my most desired game on any platform.
Question What are you guys planning for implementing chat? I take it there is a chat window for you and your party, but do any enemies ever say something? Will those comments appear in a separate chat window or on screen and within the battle? I think the latter is best. Can't wait!
i think there should be an arrow at the top of the screen and when we click on it it would open.... SWEET
What is happening here? There is this akward silence..... QUICK : 1. How is the game working out right now (lvl of developpement) 2. Could you add achievement list? so we get points and ranks as players and we can compare to others (a bit like SCII point system...)
I was going to wait until tomorrow to post this, but since you're up late and worried about us I'll give you the sneak peek! Check out the first official trailer for Pocket Heroes that we debuted at GDC this week. Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel Let me know what you think!
Soooooooo...."Spring of 2012".......? That's like now?.....lol All I need now is the game....(and of course 3 friends.......lol) I like it!
I wish i could've gone.... but i don't live in America.... Happy for the "late" spring release date and for 4 co-op multiplayer! Anyway: 1. Fingers crossed for arena mode (PvP and Horde mode alone and in team + clans battle) 2. Dungeon master mode (happy that my idea made ppl enthusiastic!) 3. Crafting (Perhaps...) You could pick up loot and minerals and other stuff and combine it. 4. Runes to boost your character 5. Finally, Power-up mode (depends form your class) like rage mode for warrior, overheat mode for the robot dude, heveanly mode for light mage, devil mode for evil heroes.... etc 6. Oh and a Saint's protection (you should at the beginnig of the game it could give you an extra power or a better spec like Health regen, more attack, more mana.... etc) Sry for the long post but if everyting in this list is added your game will be much more complete (sorry for the bother if some of these are included in the game) and you are sure to build your way thorught the best iOS games EVER
Thanks for all the great suggestions Apoc. We are definitely looking to have some of those in the game, although they won't all be there at launch. The power-up mode is something that we looked at early on and have kind of pushed aside lately but it may be worth another look. Our take on it was to use those kind of 'limit breaks' attacks for certain classes as one of their defining character traits. We'll take another look at that and see if it's something we can incorporate. I'm glad you liked the trailer, we're still improving the game everyday so hopefully we will end up being the best iOS game ever! Thanks, Brandon
Nice to see this will be coming pretty soon. Seems like ages ago when I first read about it. Can't wait.
Now that this one is getting closer to release is there going to be any kind of open beta to ensure that any major bugs get squashed or have you guys been doing that as you go?
