I've tried logging out of both devices, and now they're both giving me the "Login Problem" error. Now I can't play at all... I sent a PM to Brandon (the dev) an am hoping he can clarify the issue. They should think about letting players access basic account information through their website or something.
Yea.. I had really high hopes for this game but good thing I waited it out to see people's first impressions. The only way this game seems to work is with actual real life friends Playing with you. other than that, this type of Rpg just doesn't work. It's not executed well and it's just not going to work. A HUGE majority of people are not going to like this game or will not be able to Enjoy it to the fullest because of this. Maybe a different formula would make this kind of "words with friends" Rpg work but I highly doubt it. Rpg's are not meant to be played like this. TA lost its merit a while ago. They rate every single game a 4 star. TA should only be used as a news site, NEVER as a review site. I think the iOS era of real hardcore games has ended and the app store hardcore games will begin to decline from now on. "Pick up and play" and freemium games are what the iPhone is good for at it's best.
Well it seems to work for me, I can communicate in game via the chat and sort out strategies and what not. It badly needs a lobby before you begin though. To avoid choosing the same heroes. Sometimes it's like turning up to a party in the same frock as another girl...apparently this is a bad thing according to the wife.
I'm really enjoying this now ive got used to the interface. Encountered a bug where half way through level 2 my party was somehow teleported back to the start of the game. Luckily we retained out exp and dropped items etc so we were able to get back where we were with ease. This also provided an impromptu grinding opportunity for easy exp. I don't think finding a couple of players is too hard using tho forum. I have several active games at the moment that are progressively more enjoyable.
I will admit the game is a little rough around the edges and needs some improvement to the interface and features. Overall this is an enjoyable game when you have a good group. People have to realize that it is not a quick game and it takes time to get through a turn sometimes. I have a game going and last night everyone was moving right along, this morning no one has yet to make a move but hopefully that will change as it's only 8am. Unless you're playing with a group of close friends expect a round to take some time. For those of you playing, please check chat on a regular basis and everyone should be posting what their schedule is so that everyone can coordinate a speedy time to play. This only helps everyone involved.
Personally, I'm really enjoying it. As others have said, the UI is a little rough, the hit-box (or touch-box?) for some of the icons and menus is a little off (it takes forever for me to exit out of the character card menu), but the chat functionality works just fine (provided other people use it), and I've not had any problems making games or getting people just yet. However, I agree with what others have said; more than once I've had a game created only to have two or three other people playing the Dwarven Mechanic, whereas I would've quite happily played the Paladin or Priestess if I'd known. Definitely needs some sort of pre-game lobby, or even the ability to switch characters from within the tavern? And that's one last thing--once we've completed the 'get thee to a tavern' quest, can we not have to go through it again? Or at least turn the tutorial menu things off, it gets a little tedious. Other than that, though, great job! Wonderful little title.
Devensega, got an issue with our game. Notification says ready to play my turn but every time I go into the game the ticker at the top gets to you picking up a small shield then it crashes back to home screen. Only happening on that one game (we're both rogues).
I've been able to log in and out just fine. Perhaps you entered your initial password wrong (in which case Brandon can hopefully reset it) -also remember that your username is the e-mail you signed up with.
Sorry for the upcoming rant, but I really do not get it: seems to me that many bought the game without even knowing what they were buying. Everyone is obviously entitled to his/her own opinion, but this is just for people on the fence who read people moaning and people loving the game. This game is designed to mimic the old Dungeon and Dragons days, where you gathered around a table with some FRIENDS to play a predefined adventure, tailored for their levels/classes and such. It is played like a card game or a board game...everyone makes its move than wait for the others to do the same. While rought around the edges and surely improvable (more on that later) the game perfectly got it. There is no design flaw or something like that. I do not go to to Counterstrike or TF2 forums asking for a single player mode...it makes no sense. This game is built for a group of people, you can find many better offerings in the Appstore for single player RPGs...this is NOT. And...the random people thing. I find it funny reading a lot of 'I cannot play with random people?' followed by 'I'm bored because a random guy I'm playing with is not taking his turns'. This is not a 'random people' game. It's no a 5 minute affairs like Outwitters or Hero Academy. This is supposed to be an involving game, where you are committed to play with you character inside a group, aiding each other. As in real life D&D and similar games, you usually play these games (I played the same character with the same group for over 10 YEARS) with friends or people with same interest, met in a convention or a D&D club (they existed in colleges and such). What to do now? Well...in the Internet era, if you do not know anyone to play Pocket Heroes with...I suggest find people in a forum (like this) to know them, cohordinate classes, playing time etc... The problem many are pointing out, are the very same problems thet I got in real life years ago...they are not really solvable (a friend who can't come to our gathering because of a sudden problem, moving city...many things). Adding random people without any will to play the whole campaign togheter will lead just to frustration. End of rant...sorry but every time I come here hoping to read about quests and story or encounters, I read only: Where is single player? I cannot play for 5 minutes with a random guy? Why I cannot continue and I must wait for my pals to take their turns, I'm bored! My reaction is always the same: WTF? This is no Diablo 3, no Counterstrike, no Hero Academy!!! Now onto the game, after a whole day playing it with some friends (I have 4-5 games going on). The game capture very well the old D&D days and I havin really a ton of fun playing with friends but as always, things are improvable. This is my personal list to IMPROVE the game as it is (not change it), along with a series of bugs I found: 1) NOTIFICATION SOUND!!! It's an async game, I can't always watch my iPhone screen to see if it's my turn!!! I need to hear the sound when it's in my pocket! A nice sound would be appreciated (a sword swing, a dragon roar...whatever fantasy). I do not know if possible, but it would be cool if we could get different sounds for different classes (so if it's my paladin turn a sword swing, an arrow sting for the rogue...) 2) DECLINE AND DELETE. Now it's a mess....I NEED to clean it. I need to decline a game and delete a game. Deleting an ongoing game could pose a problem for the other partecipants. We could have a switch wehre to actually delete a game everyone should delete it, or if I delete the game, they receive a notification and my character disappear (this could pose problem...but not being able to is worse imho). 3) WHEN I RECEIVE A NOTIFICATION, TAPPING IT SHOULD BRING ME DIRECTLY TO THAT GAME, REFRESHED. 4) IF I'M TAKING MY TURN IN A GAME AND IT'S MY TURN IN ANOTHER GAME, I MUST SEE IT SOMEWHERE, AND A NEXT GAME BUTTON WOULD BE APPRECIATED. 5) WHEN I'M ON THE GAMES LIST, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE WHO (FRIEND NAME AND CLASS) IS ACTUALLY IN THE GAME. With too many games ongoing, it's a nightmare now. 6) WHEN I EXIT FROM THE GAME LIST ON THE SPRINGBOARD...IF I RETURN TO THE GAME, THE LIST IS NOT AUTO REFRESHED (Annoying). 7) WOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE AT LEAST 4 DIFFERENT COLORS FOR EACH CLASS...now I can't distinguish my paladin from my friend's one. 8) IN GAME SETTINGS DOESN'T WORK (Music and RANDOM GAMES), they are not retained on exit too. 9) NOTIFICATION APPLIES ONLY FOR THE LAST DEVICE WHERE YOU LOGGED IN, annoying...it should be as in StarBase Orion, where every device get the proper notification. Logging in and out solve the problem, but at least it should remember the credentials. 10) TUTORIAL TAVERN THING should be an ON/OFF switch (I did it like 20 times now). When off you should start right in the tavern, chatting with your friends, with some more gold or 1-2 objects. That's it for the little quirks I found (1 and 2 are the major one actually). Some more suggestion: Have a chat lobby for people searching for friends...could substitute a forum thread and be more integrate (the tavern is perfect). Have more single quests...so I can play with my character in one game with some friends and complete a quest, then play with the very same character ANOTHER quest with other friends. This could solve many other problems read in this very forums for people that didn't really got was the game was about imho. Have more randomized content...so when we will end the campaing we can continue playing and talk about it I dream a future where all the quirks are solved and every update brings just new quests, stories, characters and loot. I must say (quest 4) that encounters are really well scaled so far. BTW, contrary to my fears, playing the very same quest several times with different classes/people retains the fun, thanks to the random loot and mechanics.
I wanted to add my voice to those who are really enjoying this game. It is very rough though and I am looking forward to what is to come. I hope I am witnessing the beginnings of a new breed of game. All the game play and ui improvements suggested by other players here on this forum are definitely a must, but I would also like to add that the game really needs a story. I was actually surprised to see that there is no motivation. Quests don't seem to have any meaning. Also, from what I have encountered o far, there seems to be only one way to solve the quests. Just a linear tactical affair. I would like to see more open exploring with multiple paths and even opportunities for splitting up the party if desired. You two go this way, we will go that way etc. Keep up the good work Brandon!
When you get a game going it is actually quite entertaining, and unlike some said, the formula works, it depends too much on the players in your party. I think many people simply does not understand how a RPG with player turns works, and might reject it thinking it is "boring". Playing the exact same game over and over again will get old fast, and random dungeons are a must. All the online structure must be revised in order to make the game really work. It's too rough and incomplete. I look forward to the updates, this might prove a good game after all, but as it is now, it's hard to recommend, and I'm afraid the first impression will be hard to recover because of all the flaws.
This too! I'm just at quest 4 so I do not know if story pick ups later on...and I want to give the benefit of the doubt, but a little more text in the beginning could help immersion. I wrote too a part about story and proper quests...but I canceled it after reading the achievements name. One give me hope As I said, I dream a day when we will come here talking about how cool is the backstory of quest X or how cool is the ending fo Campaign Y, with everyone telling a different story.... (something familiar to old D&D players). Potential is HUGE.
The other option instead of a random level generator would be to make public level creation tools and let people create their own campaigns that the community can play. That might actually be the better option, as players can create more story-driven experiences than a random dungeon generator could.
Well this could be golden (NWN did this and I played the hell out of it speaking about communuty hand made campaigns) but this is (for now) beyond the scope of the game so I dunno how feasible could be in the short run. I would be in heaven if such an editor existed.
Me too! It can be done. Battle academy has user made downloads on the iOS. This would be very very cool.
I'm a priest and im stuck on a bandit tile. My attacks miss so I cant kill him and i cant move off the tile...
I'm so jealous everyone is enjoying this I have been trying to get a game going with my friend since launch to no avail. I have opened like 4 or 5 accounts. He doesn't get my gamecenter or email invites and vice versa. I send him and inv, hit start, move to the wolf, attack it twice, and hit end turn. Nothing happens after that. Stays on "waiting". I have like 6 games on my end trying to start with him. He has tried about the same amount. Maybe it's just us? Can any of you add me on game center Ati Offsafety is my name on there let's see if I can get this thing working. Please help! EDIT: I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, even restoring my phone to factory to see if it was a problem with game center, hence why I need your help by sending friend requests via game center.
