+1. And I also agree that the world is becoming to "politically correct". I'm an Asian, and I wouldn't care if Pocket God was a game where little people with slanted eyes wearing bamboo hats in a rice patty field. Seriously, next we'll be hearing about Flight Control controversy.

Although I do realize how this could possibly be offensive to some people.

    it is offensive...

the whole Pygmy thing is offensive for sure... In countries I've been to like New Zealand and the Cook Islands, where the native people are actually integrated with the likely-to-sunburn, I could see people getting real pissed about this...

And guys, there's nothing worse than a bunch of well-fed middle-class, very comfortable dudes with hemmorroids from playing games on the pot, telling the world to "chill, it's just a game." That's so stupid... Ok, how about, a game where strange men have sex with your sister? "HEY! you just crossed the line!" riiiiiight...

P.S. When there's actually a gameplay element added to Pocket God, even then, it'll still be silly to say it's just a game... But for now, how about we say, "C'mon guys, it's just something you open once and say, 'what's the fuss about..?' and close it to play flight control.

I really hope all you cry babies, have deleted pocket god off your Ipod....wouldn't want to be hypocritical now....

Also I sure hope your as vocal about actual problems going on in the world, instead of sitting your very well fed hemmoroid covered asses in front of the computer bitching about a game, so you can fulfill all those psedo self righteous ideologies.

Look, if this was really so offensive, do you think it would have slipped by everyone until now?

Taking the example of the Baby Shaker app. That thing was pulled off the App Store relatively shortly after release. Compared to Pocket God, which was and still is enjoying success on the App store. If it was really about something truly awful or inappropriate, many more people would have noticed, and far earlier.
Regardless of what you do, somebody is going to be offended. I'm going to be downgraded to a lower class soon, and my friends are taking offense because I'm not treasuring my place in the program, and am instead happy to be transferred to mainstream. Somebody is going to find a bone to pick with you. If these people hadn't brought this up, do you think you'd have thought to yourself "hey, this is stereotyping polynesians?" NO.

The only people in that article that are offended have an agenda. People are offended by every little thing these days. The world needs to grow a pair.

There are plenty of cartoons where chinese are stereotyped. But do you see people protesting against every little joke made against their race? So would you rather be frying businessmen in black coats and red ties instead? Would that make it any less offensive?

Wow, two mentions of hemorrhoids (by different people) in a Is Pocket God Racist? thread.

Why is it necessary to offend one group to defend another?

Is it racist? Yes it's racist. Are tons of games racist? Yes. Just because one game is allowed to be sold doesn't justify another racist game to be "ok."

I for one would be very offended if there was a game with little Jewish men with yarmulkes and "big noses" that you could throw into gas chambers, and that would be the first time I would protest a game.

The PG devs have the right to make the game, and others have the right to protest it. Freedom of speech.

I think Apple is sitting on this one for now and depending on the media coverage it will pull it or not. I think they're mostly interested in the U.S./UK/Japan/China markets (i.e. huge, and others like it). NZ seems to spawn a lot of devs but I don't how much of Apple's total sales they make up.

There was a claim in the article that the devs were contacted about the game being racist and they didn't respond. IF true, then I feel they should have responded. Then again they haven't really responded here either...

BTW if this game is pulled the devs would have to return all the money of people complaining about a game that's not available anymore ...

Very true - but never once in my hundreds of sacrifices have I thought that Pocket God was rooted in any sort of reality, especially one comparable to people that exist today in 2009.

    There's a T-Rex egg next to a port-a-potty!

There are more than enough real acts of injustice, racism, prejudice, etc going on in the world - does anyone really need to pick on an entirely unrealistic cartoon iphone game?

    It boggles the mind.

Of course if it was about throwing Jewish people into gas chambers, that would be another matter altogether. The atrocities committed in WWII should not by any means be glorified in any way.
But since when has there been a mass execution of pigmies by striking them with lightning or throwing them into volcanoes?

Not to the extent where people are demanding that it be pulled.

I was refering to another persons quote about hemmorhoids, but not suprised that went over your head. Wouldn't the world be a better place if everyone just made fun of everyone....and get this....we all laughed instead of getting our panties in a bunch??

Here's what it comes down to: I'm not really offended but they're not making fun of me... until they're making fun of YOU, then it's a whole different story.

And making fun of white people is not the same because white people have not been subjugated and enslaved. In a way it's true that whites cannot be discriminated against because they have historically been the ones in power, and racism is pretty much using POWER to lower the status of another race based on prejudices.

So if you're a white anglo-saxon, you'll probably never understand. And if you're a minority, then they probably haven't made fun of you so far.

Well they could always make it more sci-fi. Make the pygmies purple and add a second sun to the island. Then it wouldn't offend as much. Just an idea.

I personally never thought of it as referring to reality. To me it is a distraction from reality.

Exactly! The whole point of this game is to have a bit of fun! Not to spite pigmies in particular! The people at the whateverbusybodycrapboard are merely seeking media attention. You know how it goes. Any tiny bit of publicity they get, they'll take the fullest advantage of it. Human nature is seeks attention, and will do anything to get it.

Well personally I've never met an african-american slave, have you??? I think the last one died out more than a hundred years ago. So bad argument. Also I've noticed that the United States had so many white people in power, they elected a black president just to be fair.

Also it may be a good idea to read up on the opression of Irish Americans during the late 1800's. Weren't they white???

I'm actually surprised we haven't heard anything about Flight Control - given that planes crashing into anything (even other planes) is generally a BIG time button pusher. I was thinking about that yesterday - there's a whole thing going on about an Air Force One flyby near the Statue of Liberty that has everyone freaking out.

I also agree that the world has become too 'politically correct'. Were bald people offended that Charlie Brown was the constantly picked-on underdog? Did unkempt hippies complain about the portrayal of Shaggy in Scooby Doo? What about the cavemen in the Geiko commercials? I bet that would offend someone if there were any Cavemen left.

At the end of the day it's a cartoon game, not based in any sort of reality and I really think there are other things in the world to be worried about.

I really hope they don't take PG down as a result of this.

it's really pseudo self righteous to care what people who feel slighted think... haha... pseudo self-righteous people like the NAACP? haha...

And what? You have to be Bono in order to have an opinion? Well, I bought some Tom's shoes the other day, so that means I can comment on this. Phewf... that was close...

Anyways, I'm going to grow a pair so I can stop worrying about offending people.

PS. a hemorrhoid COVERED ass would REALLY suck...
