Time Traveling (the honest kind) Curious about the evolution of this War & Peace length thread, I went back to the first 10 pages or so of to see how it started. I discovered that Martin, you are the first poster who is still posting (Bravo!!); you showed up on page 4. BTW, I liked your writing back then (feel free to make requests from my empire p. 5). Cygnet, you popped up on page 7. The thread at that time was heavy trading, minimal chit-chat, with people asking for basic patterns, colors, & types. An Anura one didnt have & couldnt breed was a great gift back in those pioneer days! Feeling that the thread had evolved to tighter-knit community feel with a core group by the time I joined, I discovered, to my dismay, that I could only get the last 20 pages of my postings & that was true for others as well. So then I jumped to page 500 & found that dean was already there, in full force. By page 700 there were already games (can you say Lucky Louis?) & quite a few names I recognized & once traded with because they were still posting when I joined the thread as a lowly relative newbie. Didnt have the patience to figure out when I showed up which was my ultimate goal. No matter. I did answer my question about the evolution & changes, though. IMO, the truth is that the thread takes on the personalities of the postersthey create the prevailing ambiance by the content of their posts. Most fortunately no change was made to the thread's name in the interim. Phew! But I digress...then again, isn't that my stock in trade? Heard it's selling for pennies on the dollar. p.s.: Did starmonkey101, who began this thread, ever finish? Did Pcllw & skeeter simply give up? Did lizardofyfe go on to non-amphibian games? LOL, when I next opened the game, I found it was lvl 38 I was stuck at, but no matter, I cracked it on the very next try! Somewhere in the mid-40s now. Froggies are still progressing slowly, started the Volta-Hennae double.
Not long after Cyg came along it got more structured - while most of us were still levelling up to the v1 high breeds at 16, he rallied the troops and we cooperated to get him levelled quickly so as to be able to gift around the last few achievement sets. We also had no dex in those days, and I still thought frogs had to be fully grown to leave the nursery! As you say, anuras were worth it; a lot of the achievements needed them, and without the dex it was much harder to quickly get the combo you needed. We had good times! Then as this place grew, about 8 of us split off into 'social group' the frog share, and I really left this place behind. V2 kind of forced me back, especially as that group was just Cyg, Andi and myself by that point. Now I vary between contributing a lot and feeling like there is a bit of chit-chat going, and what I was worried about in the first place, feeling like my posts go unnoticed and we're all just anonymous, and pages can happily go by without noticing my absence.
There was no dex?? My mind boggles! The game must have been so much more difficult and confusing. How did you remember which color combos you'd completed? On a side note, I'll have the Bubbly and Fireworks set tamed and ready to send out tomorrow. I know it's a long shot, but if anyone wants it, please let me know. There's Gyrus & Signum in that set if anyone doesn't have them and wants just one of those.
