A month, BW? I have been playing about a week, and reached lvl 11 this morning? To be fair, I do get a little obsessive about these games (does it show???) and I thought I was taking ages. Looking for more neighbours, too. Don't worry Martin, I spotted the 'challenge all friends' issue, and won't be going near it! Some Templums coming your way, BW!
OK, Andi, I'll bite. Obsessiveness aside (don't have the de rigueur gaming gene so I don't understand it), how many hours do you devote to playing games a day? Also, question for all you PFers. Do you buy potions & stamps to speed up your play? Remember, answer honestly. p.s.: Thanks RedSky for the Trivium & Nirtew for the Gemma. My overactive guilt gene is kicking in with these two gifts & I'm questioning my decision to stick to random gifting (2 gifts/day to 2 random friends) but not reciprocal gifting. Is there a way to reciprocate without ending up with a full MB & the frustration that brings?
Thank you, Andi! I don't know why I didn't have you on GC already; it's been confusing trying to find all of my old friends and so far I've only added back 40/150. Well, I have a bunch of new games competing for my attention, and I've been one-track-focused on Glacio lately. Now that I'm finished, I should be on HS more. Also, it may be because I'm careful how I spend my money, so I don't have that many shops to restock (yet). Laurafitz4 has been very generous with gifts, otherwise I wouldn't be so far along. All right, I'm off. Going to peek at your street!-BW Edit: I was wrong; I'm level 11 now.
Thanks Andi, that explains alot. I keep getting challenges and I don't even have the game. Was wondering what was going on and why they kept sending me challenges.
Thanks again everyone for the gifts. I come with my hand out again Does anyone have a Persona they can shoot my way? Happy to reciprocate!
Just saw your post because it came up at the same time as mine. as an answer to your question, I bought my first stamp pack on Friday and I never intend to buy any again. Why did I buy them on Friday, you ask? I am in a hurry to deliver the rest of my Templum wheel, and my stamp store had gone down by 100 since September. So I got desperate and spent five bucks.
When I first started playing, I bought some potions and some stamps, more as a way of supporting a free game I loved than because I needed them especially. Just recently I bought stamps again, so that I could go crazy emptying my mailbox during the flurry of new frogs and not feel bad about running myself out. I'm stingy! Just finished Nasus and starting Roboris in my "fast frog" dexing. Should be through with Fortunos in a couple of days, and now I'm debating what slow frog to tackle next: a new breed, or try to finish the old breeds first? Ah, if only these were the only problems in my life! lol Like BW, I'm a denizen of the Lone Star State, and it's 80 degrees F here today. White Christmases are a thing of legend! (Though we *did* have one, once. It was truly a Christmas miracle!) --Q
No but I did get the baby proofing and express mail box. I accumulated heaps of stamps and potions from doing sets but chewed through most of my stamps after the new frogs were released trying to keep the mail box clear for pond presents with all the hopping I was doing.
I also bought a small pack of potions about a month after I started the game for two reasons. First, as Q said, I wanted to reward the Devs for a game I enjoyed . Second because I was going to Texas for a week to visit relatives, the land of NO WiFi and didn't want to take a chance. OK, in all honestly there probably is wifi in Texas just not close to where I go.
I've never bought potions or stamps, mainly as part of my all around dislike of the freemium model ... preying on people's lack of patience just irks me, and it has of course killed good franchises, and now (yay) the company that started thinking in that direction! I did eventually justify fast mail ... and then babyproofing, based on sheer time invested, and haven't looked back. Just don't tell anyone .
@ Lisianne, re time spent, it depends on what else is going on, of course, but I tend to average 4 hours a day, I suppose. There's 30-45 minutes in the morning while I have coffee, an hour at lunch, then it depends what's on the telly/whether I'm going out of an evening, whether we have guests... I've never bought stamps/potions, they're easy enough to find or earn in-game, though I have invested in the express MB and babyproofing kit; they are permanent upgrades that were worth the cost, given that I've had two years plus of enjoyment out of this game so far.
I've never bought stamps or potions but I did get the express mailbox and baby proofing a year or so ago. I am a hoarder, and atm I have over 1100 stamps and 1700 potions, purely from the pond, sets and request frogs. And I did use a lot of stamps when the update first came out.
Matt, sent you a Persona. Lisi, I've bought potions when there were a lot of potion frogs I needed but not stamps. I did get the babyproof.
Lisianne, you have made it very plain several times on the thread that you are a non-gamer and only play for the social aspect of the thread. You also have it on your GC status to send no gifts and have posted that you will NOT reciprocate if sent any. This is a generous thread and sometimes people just want to send a gift. My suggestion would be to accept the gift in the meaning it was sent and just say Thank You. If someone wants to trade and not gift, against your wishes, they will get the hint when you do not reciprocate and stop sending frogs. If they continue to send frogs occasionally it means that it is truly a gift. If you dont want the full MB , just sell the gift. So give your overactive guilt gene a rest and let your frustration stop and let people be nice.
I would say on average I spend 2-3 hours on PF, but I have periods (like now) when I'm out of touch for days. And of course there was my 5 month sabbatical. When I began the game I did spend money on stamps and potions. Partly because I like to reward good game designers and partly because I didn't realize you could get so many stamps and potions in the pond. I haven't bought stamps for about 2 years now. I did buy both the express mail and baby pack and consider them both great investments.
@Blue, Quo, fazstp, awboj, dean & you, MartiNZ - thanks for answering my question. I'm more of your opinion, MartiNZ, that I just feel consumables are inherently not valuable & they do prey on AND encourage peoples' impatience. For the addictive personality, they can be especially chancy. They DO help the devs so I understand their motivation although I often disagree with their intrusive implementation. OTOH, I bought the BabyProofing & Express MB because I liked the game & wanted to say "Thanks, keep it up!" I also own up to buying $5 worth of "bux" for TT & for PP, again as a gesture of gratitude even though it went against my general principles & my actual need. This question came to mind when, out of curiosity, I went to look at the descriptions of some games mentioned here over time. One game had a $99.99 IAP! Along with the person on the NB Support Site who spent $500 on one of NB's games, this made me realize that gamers spend a wad of cash on games. Before I got too judgmental, as I am wont to do, I realized that I spend money on different things. Money spent on kids, education, health, etc. is understandable so I'm not counting that. Some like to travel, some like to read, some like to entertain, etc. One Venti Latte with extra shots & syrup & made with soy milk I'm guessing costs as much as a value potion pack of stamps or potions & doesn't last nearly as long. (I'm a tall extra-hot easy-foam type of gal & that's $3.00.) To each his own. Four hours/day is quite a bit more than I have to spare but it does explain how buying stamps or potions would be unnecessary for you. And no doubt for others. A "hyperactive guilt gene" is something I was born with. Hard to explain, deeply rooted, impossible to eradicate. Nonetheless, I realize it's unseemly to have a wrestling match with myself on an online forum about my conflicting views on playing the game & enjoying it at the same time. Everyone loves gifts, I was no exception until they became too plentiful. One CAN get too much of a good thing. So I'll try your suggestion, Dean, & I genuinely appreciate your input. From now on, what was sent as a gift, I'll treat as such. And what I send as gifts has never expected reciprocity, that hasn't changed - it's a gift, plain & simple. p.s.: Admission - I already sent something back to dlstar for the Igneous & MartiNZ for the Papilo this morning after I sent out two random gifts.
