Welcome Back, Lisi. I too sent you a welcome back gift.:D
Thanks to shortbus for the weekly set and to andi, dom, InBoots, jklau, laurafitz, Maholah, nicksparkington, Quossum, and Snappy for all the great frog gifts. Much appreciated.
I try to keep track of the gifts I get, but today I accepted a gift overlooking who sent it. It was a Green Floris Signum. Thanks to whoever sent it and maybe if the sender could PM me, I'd like to receprocate. Finally, to anyone I missed on the list, thanks and I apologize.

    No problem...

Don't let anyone tell you how to maximize your fun on this game... but here is the "levels" of enjoyment for me:

The first thing I did was focus on the achievements (The Froggydex ones didn't exist back then, so I played until I had 100%). Breeding all those sets was pretty fun and challenging... and I never traded with anyone other than my wife, so we literally had to find everything in the pond. When the Froggydex achievements were added, I saw them as near impossible, so I didn't even try for them. Especially that last one requireing 5,000 frogs.

Then when the weekly sets came out, that would keep my interest once per week, but after I'd get that set, I'd put it down for a week.

But then one week, a set required a breed I'd never seen nor heard of... so I found this thread and asked for one... and the rest is history... I've been trading with about a dozen people here, and started 'Dexing (trying to complete as many breeds in the Froggydex as possible) and now I find myself playing it even more often than ever. And I did finally get all the achievements again. :D

I have always liked the challenge of trying to keep every breed and color available for making the sets while still leaving room for breeding. Back a few updates ago, the number of habitats were more limited, so it was challenging. I guess it still is until you start accumulating more coins than you even need. Even though I can buy anything I want out of the catalog or Froggydex, I still keep on hand every color and every breed so I can make any combination I want without having to buy frogs. I just like doing it that way.

I have some extra frogs from the current week's set for those who've yet to finish the set. Let me know if they are wanted.

    Thanks

Want to thank all you super people here for the warm welcome back. Feels like I never left, in a good way though.

Remember when we played games here? Ugliest frog? Most beautiful frog? Etc. Well, in my next post, I'll be proposing another game/thread of sorts. You can either chime in or just enjoy my, shall we say, "trying" (in every sense of the word) experience. No pressure, no stress, maybe some fun. At the very least, you can just shake your head in dismay & wonderment at my semi-self-induced plight & understand why you *may* get a Calvaria in trade.

p.s.: Since yesterday I received some lovely froglings. Thanks so much to java for the Green Signum, Dom for the Azure Signum. Also like to thank Snappy for the Violet Orbis & Orange Ocularis, & last, but not least, laura for the White Obara, White Magus, & Azure Serpentis. Snappy & Laura - you guys are either inordinately generous or fell asleep reading my previous post (<--nah, who would do that?! it *was* shorter than War & Peace, I swear...OK, OK, by a smidge).

    Fr*g My Life!

    Fr*g My Life!

Husband downloaded a great new app, if you’re into humor via Schadenfreude lite. Unfortunately, English has no equivalent word or couple of words for Schadenfreude but it’s in the English dictionary (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/schadenfreude). Anyway, the app is FML & it mirrors the popular online site, FMLife: http://www.fmlife.com – definitely worth a read.

I’m proposing a new game/thread (if interest), “Frog My Life” or, for the more sensitive among us I’ll leave out the offensive vowel, “Fr*g My Life.” My entry is unusually long, I apologize, because it was so multi-faceted & exquisitely painful. Entries needn’t be so wordy or have to do with frogs either for we all, alas, have experienced the pitfalls & pratfalls of everyday life.

This is based on my oh too recent experience looking to breed a Calvaria for 22 stamps. First checked & couldn’t find the right color or pattern Calvaria so I only bought the appropriate Anura from the froggydex. I then proceeded to breed. Got so many Anuras & so many of the original parent Azure Pruni Calvaria that I had to throw both away (don’t tell “Right to Life”!). Finally got Calvaria which wasn’t the original! Success…or so I thought.

I checked my froggydex to verify & it wasn’t there. Huh?!! Totally baffled (shows what I newbie at heart I *really* am), I used 3 potions to find out what was amiss with PF. OMG, it was a *Glass* Pruni Calvaria. My combination would have never given me the right frog!

Meanwhile, as I was checking the froggydex for this color/pattern, I inadvertently tapped on “Buy” for the very *same* Calvaria which caused my initial problem at the cost of 87,480 coins & reflexively tapped “Buy”). Ouch x Ouch - insult to injury! But wait, there’s more.

So I tried breeding the Anura with my only other Calvaria I had. After too many (to count) tries, I got another Calvaria but not the one I was seeking. Decided to wait another day, hoping my luck would change. I did wait & it didn’t change – more coins down the drain. So I used potions & tapping to turn the almost-right-hatchling into a breeding frog. Finally, a mature, almost-the-one-I-wanted Calvaria. Tantalizingly close.

Distracted (I’ll blame it on someone else, everyone in politics does), I located the Anura & bred it with the wrong Calvaria, its parent! (don’t tell *anyone*!) OMG x OMGx OMG!!

Finally bred with the correct Calvaria &, after too many tries, I got my Azure Ceres Calvaria. Today I redeemed it. So NOT worth the stamps.

    Fr*g My Life!

Welcome Back lisianne, I sent a few welcome back presents just in time for the holidays!

My statistics project is going well, I am still documenting every pond present, and I probably won’t hit the 1,000 present mark until close to the new year, but I will pop in with the outcome when I do!

Here’s my HUGE list of thanks for the past two weeks:
shortbus for generously sending the weekly set every week, sometimes I wonder why I even start it, because I get part of the way there, and then the exact frogs I need magically show up in my box!

Also thanks to (in no particular order, I love all my froggy trading friends equally!):misskatpaw for the Bulbus, Obaro, Orbis, Nimbilis, Gyrus, Arbor, Spinae, & Bulla (Awarded the most diverse gifter on this weekly list!) InBoots for the Lucas, Sagitta, Signum, Corona, Veru & Bulbus, Snappy for the Veru (x2), Orbis, Gyrus, Persona, & Signum, JavaRich for the Veru (x3), Magus, Sol (Request Frog) & Signum Maholah for the Sol, & Pingo, Caeleps for the Ornatus, Obaro, & SignumDom for the Amfractus (x4), & Orbis (x11!), lisianne for the Veru, Nirtew for the Gyrus (x2), Veru & Vinaceus (x3), Warchin for the Lanterna (x3), Andi for the Persona (x 3), & Calyx jklau for the Persona & Orbis JenDingo for the Partiri, DeanKeith for the Adamantis & Africanis, dean288 for the Signum.

Also, I still have half of last week’s Deep Freeze set (passed half along to Warchin already), so if anyone needs breeders, let me know before I sell them.

    Request frogs:

Lisi, hope your next request frog comes much easier than that pesky Calvaria! With regards to request frogs, any of my difficulties were a mere trifle in comparison.
(Usually for me, when it has happened, the eggs were the same as the parent or numerous Anuras.) Perhaps in frustration I may have declined a request frog or come back to it days later.
On the flip side, once a request frog was in Frogmart for me (a Nimibilis, I think). Anyone have unpredictably good experiences with request frogs?

Changing the subject, on to the acknowledgements to the following generous gifters: :)

Thanks to Lisi for the Black Veru,
InBoots for the Blue Ligo and a Maine Persona,
Nicksparkinson for a different Blue Albeo Ligo and a Marine Signum,
Dom for the Red Picea and Maroon Bruna Amfractus!,
Andi for the Emerald Muscus Persona,
Nirtew for a different Black Veru,
    DeanKeith for the Green Africanus,
    Quo for the Black Veru,
    Danjarus for the Green Biplex,
    Maholah for the Blue Signum,
Gracesqx for the Royal Picea Orbis,
Javarich for the Marine Cafea Veru!,
Laurafitz for the White Muscus Obaro,
and anyone else who sent gifts recently,

    Good evening to all,

    Hello and Thank You

Working my way through the past weekly sets with Laurafitz4 leading the way! I'm currently on "Neon Insero" from week 20 of 2011. Thanks again to Laurafitz4 for the starter frogs and helping me in completing the sets. If anyone would like any frogs from the past sets please message me.

Thank you for the gifts and welcome back Lisianne! I think I've said this before, your posts are informative and dare I say...Spicey!

I haven't been keeping up with recording the gifts I've received over the past week as the real world continues to intrude upon my pond time :) ! Thanks though to Dean288367, Nirtew, Domenic15, Andinz1970, Jklau, SnappyMcfrog for the Marine Veru and Red Orbis, Misskatpaw - sending you Zebrae, InBoots x 10! hope your finals went well, Hello Quossum!, DeanKeith - I liked your post on "levels of enjoyment", Danjarus, Nicksparkinson, Bayniac, WackoRobbie, and WalterCZ for the Tribus in Black!

A quick update on my friend Caeleps who started playing Pocket Frogs after I did, he is now halfway through level 26 and is sending me Signum! I think he enjoys the game! He sent me the entire set of Signum in Green (Thank You Caeleps!) which I gifted to my neighbors as a Thank You :D ! He wants to go all the way in completing the FroggyDex and I reluctantly agreed to do it with him, the thought of dexing to 100% actually overwhelmed me though I can encourage others who want to do so. I'm over the reluctance, I'm in good company here on this forum!, and I'll slowly get to completing the FroggyDex.

Thanks for all of the gifts and support, and Happy Holidays to Everyone! :D

DeanK, thanks for reassuring the people who perhaps read but don't post/trade here that ANY level of playing is fun. In a way, I think that's the beauty of the game, its ability to appeal in so many ways to a wide variety of people.

In the beginning, I began because PF was some promotional thing in the app store so I d/led it & began to play without reading the full instructions. Didn't know about Awards, didn't care. There weren't even Sets to not care about back in the dark ages. I just took my early Anuras & hopped around the pond way past their "fully mature" time, for the fun of the graphics, the silly sounds, the delight of presents & the relaxation that came from a fairly mindless, directionless (unlike my life) activity.

Eventually realized at the Nasus stage, that I could get more coins by breeding the highest value Nasus I had, again & again & again (talk about no gaming sense!).

Moved on to Awards but in the most moderate way. Didn't try too hard; didn't care especially. Until, searching online for the solution to a problem, I stumbled upon the former PF forum here on TA. Quo is the reason I got hooked on Awards for she sent me a Serpentis which, if I had 8, would fulfill an Award. It struck me as amazingly generous for some at my low level.

Eventually, I discovered this forum & all of a sudden the world of trading opened up new worlds for me. It was so fun! At first my gifts back were pretty pitiful but early buddies like Shasta (who sent me the entire Anura color wheel - I never used it properly & was basically overwhelmed, wanting to keep stamps to trade), Dom, sab, Andi, & Nirtew were absolutely persistent. I was now a semi-not-quite-hardcore trader minus the 'dexing thing.

Then, things got out of hand. Keeping notes of who sent what & whether I reciprocated became essential. I insisted on sending back one gift for each received but I couldn't keep up. Sets required 4-8 frogs initially so I'd send that many back in the form of some gift. And some people just sent boatloads of frogs without it being a set The game was becoming the antithesis of its original goal of being a "relaxation" game - it was adding to my daily stress rather than relieving it.

I left to take a two week break but personal circumstances made that longer. What I did do in the interim was be an advocate for PF & answer questions on the NB Support Site for it filled & continues to fill some need I have to help & teach. Not so sure the NB guys appreciate me some of the time, but I find it satisfying. Even met javaRich there.

That's the story of my PF Adventure in discovering the levels of play.

    THE END

p.s.: Big froggy thanks to InBoots for the Blue Ligo & Orange Bulla, Dom for the Maroon Amfractus & Beige Magus, & Snappy for the Violet Trivium.

Season's Greetings to all of you froggy friends & fiends!

p.s.: A sackful of thanks to Nirtew for the Black Magus (doesn't that sound like the name of a *very* evil villain?), InBoots for the White Sagitta (something oh so elegant about all white) & Blue Ocularis, Snappy for the Glass Persona (lovely fragility about it), Laura for the Pink Gyrus (so festive), & danj for the Pink Corona (festive AND regal). All froggies are snuggled up in my MB, no doubt celebrating early with a cup of frognog.

Thank you Shortbus for the weekly set frogs, and to my other trading friends for many gifts this week.

I haven't been around much the last few days and the next couple will be the same; we've got family coming for Xmas, and preparations to finish, and the bf is working as well, so there's only so much help can be expected from that department.

I'm on holiday for a while after that, and though there are some other jobs I want to get done around the house, while time and weather permit, I also will have more time for PF from Boxing Day onwards.

In the meantime, thank you to everyone on this forum for making it the supportive community that it is. Thank you for your froggy friendship, for nearly a year now (!).

    Merry Xmas everyone!
