OK, I am back in business. It was an ATT problem not Apple. When I got home I decided to reset my modem. Why not? it was the only thing I had not done yet. Figured it would be a waste of time because my laptop and phone worked fine. Well it worked and my ipod is fine. I just do not understand these things at all.

    Snappy sent you the MCC.

More's the pity. You know all the ins & outs of PF having played so long. For me, the non-gamer in me (translation: the largest part) is drawn to support for it represents the marriage of teaching & technology, two things I genuinely enjoy. Tho' this forum & this game are not leaving me much room to learn my new iOS.;)

Checked the leaderboards & you & Dom blow all of us current players away. I have this vivid memory of when Dom, for no reason I could ascertain at the time, decided to send me ALL the Glass Verus! As for you, Andi, you've been gifting me since before I stopped writing myself messages on tiny scraps of paper about who sent something.

Know what you mean about « real life » tho' I think you were referring to the more mundane but pressing issues that gobble up free time. For others, it can mean tense, scary, wobbly times (a job, a relationship, a health issue, etc.). « Real life » occurs when you are NOT in front of a computer or in the presence of an electronic device, IOW, when you least expect it!

I'm so far behind on taming it's ludicrous. I go to gift a frog & realize that it hasn't been tamed. Nor have others in the same hab or the next hab. To say I was « underwater » in the taming area would more than appropriate.

What's great about both of those purchases is that you only buy them once. If you change devices, add another device to your account, or need to restore your device, you can d/l again for free. I've done that. The same cannot be said for potions & stamps you may have d/led but never used before your problem arose.

I need nothing & my MB is full but I sent you a gift to welcome you to this forum thread. Hope you find it friendly & put down roots.

Now I have to find out why iMessage (new free texting feature in iOS5) is so temperamental, texting the same person even! Yesterday it did, earlier today it was pouting & saying, « Not so fast there, missie! » . But just now, it was bright, sunny, & cooperative again. Maybe AT&T doesn't like people cutting back (or out) their texting service?

p.s.: Thanks to so many people for so many frogs, both for yesterday & today: Snappy, dlstar, Shasta, Andi, Dom, Elektra, Nirtew, & last but hardly least, Laura.

Went away for the weekend and when we got back discovered my modem went west, so my connection to the world has been brief encounters at hotspots. Retrieving gifts has been spotty, so thank you all who sent me gifts which are now in the either and which I will be able to retrieve shortly. I also need to catch up on my own gifting. I got the replacement today, so I should be back in business by tonight.

New modem didn't fix problem. Have to wait for Road Runner tech guy AKA the cable guy on Friday to hopefully get reconnected. Till then few outgoing gifts. Thanks to lisi, Maholah, Snappy, dlstar, and andi for gifts. If I missed anyone sorry, your gift must still be in the cloud. Outside Starbucks (won't go in, I hate their coffee) because usual hotspot has a private party. Now going back underground.

Nirtew, hope your Road Runner tech corrects the network problem soon!

Dean, good to read your iPod is working fine. Sometimes, modem/network hiccups don't make any sense to me either! You're welcome for the gift.

Thanks to Maholah for the Black Carota Signum, Jklau for the Purple Caelus Vinaceus, Purple Aurum Pingo and Aqua Ceres Bulbus , Dean for the Maroon Chroma Calvaria, Lisi for the Maroon Picea Magus, Gracesqx for the Emerald Folium Ornatus, Laura for the Violet Stellata, and Nirtew for the Tangelo Callaina Veru!
Thanks also to anyone I might have forgot to mention.

A nice evening to everyone :)

I am by no means and expert, but here is my theory on iMessage:

iMessage uses the Internet and requires a persistent connection between you and the person you are talking too (which can be through Wi-Fi or 3G), while text message use the cellular network and they can be sent even if the recipient has their device turned off or is out of range of any cell towers or hot spots.

My wife was out of town in an area with spotty cellular coverage, and I swear every other message I sent her was blue then green, then blue, etc. So I think the green (text messages) were when my iOS device couldn't detect hers being available.

One thing I like about iMessage is the little "..." you see when the other person is typing... it lets me know not to put my phone away quite yet as another message is on the way. :)

Okay, sorry for the off-topic tangent...

I am very poor at keeping track of gifts, but I've been getting a lot from dlstar, dean288367, Quossum, andinz1970, and many more I am probably not mentioning. Thank you to all that have been gifting me, froggydex now at 23% only 620 more frog types until I get the last achievement.

Just touching base here to say hello! aka procrastinating. I have 500 RAW images to edit by the end of the day so...naturally I am here.

I'm putting this expiration theory to the test. I've taken Lisianne's note and am writing down who tries to send what. Since my mailbox is full it's pretty easy to see if any expire as I wait for either more stamps or time to pass. :) So far I have suspicions that a frog from Snappy is gone forever but I will give a full report when I clear that box out. ;) Thank you everyone who has sent gifts, you are noted (literally) and I will return the favour, despite everyone's insistence that they are gifts and not necessarily trades. :D

I never paid AT&T for texting - disproportionately high price for messages so I balked. First used TextFree (until they double-crossed paying users), then TextNow. Thus I didn't know what color (green or blue) the message title was normally.

I loved your tip about the little "..." indicating a response is being composed - really classy. Plus I just discovered that if I added an additional keyboard (as I had on my previous phone eons ago), I could dictate my iMessages in French - Siri is multi-lingual.

OK, too much digression but I'm having enormous fun with this technology & I'm not even an Apple fanboy/girl as I sit typing this on my Dell.

Back to PF. At first glance, one would think I was hardly playing anymore. Not so. Appearances can be deceiving & my time has been taken up golfing (no, that excuse has been already used)...er...watching rugby (oops, that one's been taken as well)...uh...the dog ate my iPhone for a while (yeah, that's the ticket!).

Like you, DeanK, I am at 23% but 586 frogs away from my last Award. If the persistently generous people I'm about to mention have their way, I may actually get there. It's like an out-of-body, into-pond experience.

p.s.: To all the wonderful gifters referenced above, many thanks & some many times over: Nirtew, dlstar (are you dressing up as Dark Laser for Halloween?), Snappy, jklau, Andi, Laura, Elektra.
p.p.s.: Plus, thanks to someone new this time, Reachnoble6, who sent a delightful Emerald Amfractus & a Black Lucus. May be quite a while before those actually get into my MB because it has SRO similar to outside an Apple store before the launch of a new iSomething, iThink.

Patient - I mean modem - heal thyself. Woke up this morning and the new modem was flashing away. Can now catch up with gifting, etc. Additional thanks to dean and jklau for gifts. All are much appreciated.

Just doing my once every couple of months stopping by to see what's up, update my sig (which shows my progress so far in the Froggydex).

Nice to see some familiar faces that I still recognize, and hi to everyone else, too.

As always, thanks to dean and uweirdo for the gifts. Appreciate the thought!

Happy frogging to all, and guess I'll stop by again in a few months when I get the chance! :)

Lisi, I liked the phrase you used about how the frogs waiting for your mailbox was analogous to the line outside of the Apple store! :)

Level 25 reached taming an Olive Veru last night.

Thanks to Dlstar for the Purple Caelus Veru and Cocos Dextera, Gracesqx for the Emerald Muscus Ligo, Dean for the Maroon Chroma, Black Chroma and Black Aurum Biplexes!, Jklau for the Azure Albeo Floresco and Beige Viola Bulbus, Nirtew for the Violet Viola Cesti, Lisi for the White Chroma Geminus, InBoots for the Golden Pruni Nimibilis and Marine Albeo Lucus!, Quo for the Yellow Aurum Calvaria.

    Congratulations on level 25! :)

Okay so I had a massive paragraph of stuff to write after reading Dean and Lisianne's posts but I trashed it thinking it far too cheesy. Let it suffice to say that I am extremely shocked that a place such at this exists. I've stuck with a few games over the years and none ever involved a community that supported each other. No player would ever consider giving things without hoping for something in return. It may be just a silly App but I think the reflection of generosity is really nice to see, especially after long days in a big city dealing with rather cold people. I've mentioned this forum to a few friends who don't play PF but who are equally as unfamiliar with the concept of support while reaching goals in the same game.

    Anyway, it's thank you time!

Lisianne for the Sol, Dominic for the Ligo, dlstar for the Mixtus and Veru, JavaRich for the Bulbus, AndiNZ for the Serpentis, LauraFitz for the Spinae, and Dean for the Corona.

There's a giant line-up of froggies trying to get in so I am definitely missing frogs and people in this list but know these have been received, and thank you for trying to send them and being patient with me while I scour the pond for stamps! I've only been able to repay three people today - working on it!

    Azure Albeo Veru

Hi, I sent out some Azure Albeo Veru. It is another good racing frog, Speed - 109 and Stamina - 107. The Maroon Aurum Veru sent to me by Quossum is the other top contender!

jklau, I sent you one of the Veru...forgot about your status instruction.

I'm sure nobody would judge a "cheesy" post around here... I hope since I am about to type one out. Your point is something that I have thought about before. I play a lot of different types of games on a lot of different platforms, and I agree that it is a bit unusual (and refreshing) to see people being so nice to once another related to a game... but I think this game is actually engineered for people that are not quite so competitive, so it makes a sense this community is more generous than most. Even other time management games tend to have consequences for neglect, which is precisely what keeps me coming back to PF. I don't like the "stress" of trying to keep my stuff alive, or happy, etc. by being forced to pay attention to them... but for others, that might make PF seem like it's not challenging enough since there is also not really any "I win, you lose!" moments in this game. But people that are only attracted to games in which you win over others (real or imaginary) are probably also a bit more competitive which spills into their personalities online (and probably offline too).

Of course that is a generalization, and not necessary true about everyone... in fact I am kind of an exception as I really enjoy a lot of the fast-reflex highly-competitive games too... but I don't really get emotional about winning/losing. But it really only takes one or two "highly spirited" individuals to start some negative drama online, and that is all it takes to leave a negative impression of a whole community.
