Today we released our new game "Pocket Friend"

    Icon-72@2x.png

... and we would love to see people playing the app and want to start a little contest, where two of you can win (each) an iTunes card (or other card of your choice) with a value of 10$ (for each card).

The game is made for kids and is the first in a series of games where kids can play against a virtual animal friend. In this game they can play 16 different memo pairs categories (with even some math cards) against their virtual friend. There is a card range from 6 up to 18 cards with 4 different Artificial Intelligence settings. The speed of the game is optimized for kids, so they have enough time to memorize cards and follow the gameplay.
The main idea behind the game is giving kids who don't have a friend at hand to play with a virtual friend who can play with the kid around the clock, giving some emotional feedback while playing.

The app is a free trial LITE version which is offering one in-app purchase to unlock all content.

Here are the information for entering the contest:

    1. Download the app here: http://itunes.apple.com/app/pocket-friend/id748036885?l=en&mt=8
    2. Play it
    3. Write a honest review
    4. Please let us know you are a part of the contest here in this forum thread
    5. Consider downloading some of our other apps and tell your friends about them, especially when they have kids ;) (Here is a link to our complete iOS portfolio: http://itunes.apple.com/artist/mcpeppergames-ug-haftungsbeschraenkt/id500483218?l=en&mt=8 )

If you think the Pocket Friend app is not good, please write to [email protected] with information what you don't like about the game.

Here is a video of the game:

Why are there iaps in a game for under five year olds?
I'm not being snippy I'm genuinely curious. There's no info on the uk iTunes Store about what they are, is it ad removal? If I'm totally honest I'm not keen on ads in children's game after I had a nasty explicit image on an adult ad pop up in a child's game last week and my child saw it. My sister in law has asked me to look for some animal games for her four year old as someone has given her an old ipad 1, I'll be making sure it's set up so the child can't purchase anything without mums knowledge, I was just wondering what kind of iaps are aimed at under fives? or if it's an ad removal, what steps are taken by whoever to ensure that the ads shown are actually for under fives?

*edit* I realise I'm off topic! I apologise. Please feel free to contact me via pm if you don't want to answer questions here.

As a developer it isn't always an easy choice with apps for kids because of course it would be better to not include any IAPs at all! BUT: You have to work with free or lite apps to use their visibility and to reach the parents. We decided to NEVER use any ads in our games! Ads have nothing to do in an app aimed for kids! Our app is only having one InApp Purchase option which is behind a parental gate, so kids can not access the purchase. The app is meant as a LITE version, so kids can test the app together with the parents, and if they like what they see parents can unlock the full game using the InApp purchase option. We also write in the comment text that parents who don't want to purchase the game but still want their kids to play the LITE version can deactivate InApp Purchases in the device settings.
We think this is a fair concept for everyone: No Ads! And everything else behind a parental gate, so kids can not access it easily.
So the short answer is: You can use one InApp purchase to unlock the complete game content. :)

    Hi puff,

As a developer too it's not an easy task to make a game or an app which is very lame and is not even worth playing, leave alone a well described app which does what it says, so for a developer/s to support what you and I like on AppStore is very essential and that is very expensive because the apps out there are result of full time development and hard work and that is where money comes in, everybody who works has to be paid, money is not driving factor for most of the developers that's why they have this lite version of the games where you can enjoy without paying anything, at the same time if you want to feel the whole concept of the game/app is exciting/enriching for your kids and as a parent too you feel the same then I don't think paying just a little for the whole experience should be an issue, we should pay to have that experience so that even developers can make these type of games/app.

I realise your concern regarding the ad version of the games aimed at kids where sometimes nasty ads show up, many developers do that but for this particular game there are no ads, it's just pure fun kid game which is in itself a lite version and as a developer he could have put ads and all to make some more money but the developer didn't. The main reason behind the ads version is that the games which looks as easy as piece of cake are actually so hard to make that its impossible to sustain the quality without some capital involved because at times there is a full team behind these games/apps, ask any developer/s how enormous the hard work is beyond that and how much herculean amount of effort goes in to it, then you will know.

As for kids making inapp purchases, the Apple AppStore has a very clear guidelines for it, you can read them here :

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201659

Additionally you can also turn on the passcode/thumb passcode for iTunes in setting on your device too, so a kid buying inapp purchase is not a developer issue, it's the content providers issue which here is Apple, and thankfully for the people like us who have kids, Apple has made it much easier through series of restrictions which are important and useful to the length that it's almost very safe even for kids to play the games like these as they can't buy without parental consent.

    Hope my answer helps you.
    Regards,
    Kabir.
