I would buy this in an instant if it is half as good as Punch Out. Looking forward to this, hope it is a solid release with no crashes.
Joe Spaz Final art assets are coming along nicely. Here's a first peek at the third opponent. I'm going to defer publishing video until I've finished hooking up the status overlay and impact particle effects. Phil
Art assets are complete! I've got some work left to do on presentation (and competing projects to distract me), but everything is on track for a late September release. Attached is a sneak peak at the fourth opponent, "The Behemoth."
Pocket Boxer has been submitted to Apple. Support Page: http://www.northernbytes.ca/iphone/pocketboxer YouTube, courtesy of ShortAppsReview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOzTCN3RLSY&feature=player_embedded
Today? Does that mean we will see it within a couple weeks or do we still have to wait till late September
It is in the hands of Lord Apple and will be available as soon as it receives their blessing. I have not yet decided what the launch price will be. If there is significant pre-release interest, I'm open to making it available on sale for the first few days. If not, I'll likely start and leave it at $2.99 indefinitely.
Not bad That sounds fair enough, this looks really good. I always thought we should have something like this for the iPhone, looks like it could take the cake in the boxing genre
that's so weird, i was just thinking about this app last night while going through games i was looking forward to. it's great to hear that not only was this NOT cancelled, but it's already been submitted! awesome!
So long, Jihad Joe Alas, Apple has contacted me and insisted that I rename "Jihad Joe" to avoid any possible backlash. It wasn't intended to be offensive, and there are approved games with far worse names/caricatures. Suggestions for a name change would be welcome. He's an aging, Muslim boxer that's past his prime - the first opponent in the game. For reference, here's a partial roster: - Jihad Joe (TBR) - Mad Moose McGee - Mean Bean - Super Ivan - Kimber Slash - Palooka Pete - The Jamaican Sensation, Rasta King
Why does he have to be Muslim at all? There's no full story for this other than to poke fun at him... In any case how about king hamed... You know prince naseem hamed well now he's older so he's a king no? And he's most definatly past his best and out of shape and what not
It's a little late to consider changing artwork. But what's wrong with including a Muslim boxer? There are lots of famous, skilled Muslim boxers, including converts like the famous Muhammed Ali, or the UK's Amir Khan. There's nothing offensive about the way the character in Pocket Boxer is presented nor the things he says. And the there is also nothing offensive about the word "Jihad" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jihad).
The word is meant to be something for Allah don't link wikipeida without Reading it or knowing facts, Muslims take a sensitive approach to alllah. He isn't allowed to drawn or replicated and media and entertainment use is forbidden. I'm not religious at all but I know people that find offence with "jihad joe" And I so want to turn all boxing nerd right now but it's so god damn late :')
Jersey Joe I've resubmitted with the first opponent renamed "Jersey Joe." Haseem would make a great inspiration for a future opponent. Surprisingly, itunes connect was open this morning, so we may see this game available sooner rather than later. For what it's worth, "Jihad" is not a name for the Prophet Mohammed, but means "struggle." In the west it has become associated with holy war, but Muslim scholars have been quick to point out that this is unfair - it is a word used throughout the Koran primarily to refer to one's struggle to be righteous.
Pocket Boxer is Out! It's been consistently getting double digit downloads since it was released a week ago, and is on track to make back the production costs, but I'm not sure how folk are finding it - it's buried under multiple pages of games that use "boxing" as a keyword in itunes searches A lite version will be available within a few weeks for anyone that wants to give this game a whirl.
