Oh I see, no worry, we're working on the update, there will be probably a way for your to level up faster.

And much more things to keep you really busy with Pocket Army even more than now.

If I challenge a friend in battle and beat him, does that negatively affect him in any way? I want to make sure I'm not messing things up for someone.

Also, what is the difference between the green and red life bars?

Heya Pocket Army fans! If you will lend your ears for the moment, I would like to bring forth some thoughts that I have about the game, and some suggestions about it.

My first thought has to do with the purpose of grinding. Grinding originated from turn-based RPGs that encouraged players to battle the same monsters in the same area until they reached a point in their character progression where they would be able to handle the more difficult areas of the game. This cycle would repeat until the player finishes the game.

Why was this implemented in those older games?

My theory is this: not only did it pair story progression with character progression, it encouraged map exploration and mastery of the combat mechanics. It allowed players to immerse themselves into a game world in a much more different way than action-oriented games. This immersion was key to the success of the experience of playing these types of games.

So I have to ask myself: does the grinding in Pocket Army accomplish this immersion?

In my eyes, not very well.

The current grind does encourage mastery of the combat and army management mechanics. But there is almost no story beyond "kill bad guys 'cause they're bad". With such a threadbare, just-about nonexistent plot, there is barely anything to immerse in. It's like taking a bath in a cup of water: you just can't do it, unless you get a.) really creative, or b.) really small.

Does this mean the game is not fun? Well, no! There's just barely any reason to play beyond new loot and more baddies to kill. And I personally think this is a shame.

WHY is Abbadon attacking this world? WHY do demons exist? WHY do the demons corrupt the people to murder each other? WHY are the felixes so powerful? If a player pays attention, then these nagging questions and more come up over and over. Sure, you can ignore them. But ignorance doesn't make the issue go away.

Again, this doesn't mean that Pocket Army is a terrible or not-fun game. It just means that it feels like a mindless game, the kind of game that you put on auto-pilot and just grind away for no reason other than grinding's sake.

I will say that there is a place in the market for this type of game. AND, it can still be enjoyed very, very much. But I do think that Pocket Army, as a result, suffers a little in terms of the artistry of making a game, and that's a shame. It could be so much more!

Considering that many players have already played through the majority of the game, I do think that it might be unfair to foist a more well-developed story upon the game right now. HOWEVER, here's a thought:

What about AFTER a player beats Campaign 120?

Imagine this: once players beat Campaign 120, the entire world cracks, and starts raging with monsters. This can be accomplished with a new map with 120 more campaign levels, to emphasize the fact that the old world was twisted into the cracked monstrosity it is now. There is a new twist, tho: the player, about every ten campaigns or so, gets a note as a loot drop that hints at WHY THE WORLD BROKE. When all the notes are collected after Campaign 240 (120x2), they unlock a boss that explains why the world cracked, and that to fix it players have to kill it. But WHEN PLAYERS KILL IT, they and their armies get transported to an ALTERNATE WORLD/DIMENSION. AND THEY NEED TO GET BACK HOME, which could mean FIGHTING THROUGH SPACE, which could be a fourth world.

This is just a possible example, though, to illustrate my point.

You see, by working on having a continuing story like this, it gives players a reason BEYOND the next loot drop/shop upgrade to keep playing, and helps the player avoid potential burnout. Pocket Army would morph into all shades of awesomeness if it can pull this off at some point. Don't get me wrong, the game is fun right now, but it would be EPIC if it can succeed at this aspect in future updates.

    Just my $0.02 ^_^

    Sincerely,

    Mr. Album

Good ideas, Mr. Album. Since a quest reward is done every 5 missions that would be a good spot to add to the storyline. Even if it was simple text next to some character graphics that would be good.

Hi, at first, if you challenge with your friend and beat him, you will have reward, and nothing negatively affects him. So you can challenge and attack him if you like.

And the green bars is your health bar, you will die if your health bar is empty. And the red bar is used to take you know the percentage of enemies in the campaign. :)

Kind of addicted to this game. It's simple but has some depth at the same time.

My question is around the differences between the units such as club vs sword for example, are the attack/health stats the only factor? So I mean if I upgrade the club to have higher than sword, i can ignore sword forever, or do units have different attack speed or other statistic?

Glad the Devs are so active here!
    Looking forward to an update!

    Ok thanks.
Would be great if there were other stats involved so attack speed, range, dodge, critical hit etc - just to be a bit more strategic.

But maybe that would take away from the simple pick up and playability.

    Love this game still!

    Hey Mr. Album,

I've checked the review 2 times, I really appreciated your time spending here in the topic to help us improve Pocket Army. It's true that we don't invest too much on the story matter which we're trying to improve ourselves on it now. Your feedbacks will be really value for our next update, really. I just wish that Pocket Army could have more and more player like you.

    Thank you again!

You should launch to Setting icon from ipod's screen, choose General->About and give us the version which appears in this screen. :)
