I've never sold an used game in my life, so resale value isn't a big deal to me. I'll make do with the 8GB card that is bundled with the 3G model and manage Vita games through the PS3. That awkward game slot cover looks like it might take a bit of effort to open...
With the eight gig card I think you can only hold 4 games. probably less because that's the average game size they advertise so maybe only 2-3
The average game takes up less than 2GB, so roughly 4 games at a time. When I'm done with one game, I'll just store the game data in my PS3 and move on to the next one. I prefer switching games in and out of the PS3 once in a while than to open up the game slot cover every few hours or so.
There's something about owning the physical copy of games when you are a bit of a game collector like me. It's more intangible than anything, but I don't have the same, i guess sentimental attachment to games that I own digitally, but not physically. In fact, I'm much more likely to never play a digital game at all. I may very well purchase a digital game and never bother to even fire it up. The whole digital discount is nothing more then a vaguely disguised ploy to try and detract from resales. But when you factor in the cost of PS-Vita storage, and the fact that you'll be able to resale most physically owned Vita games for more then the $5 you're saving by buying them digitally, it doesn't make much practical sense to go that route. Admittedly, I almost never sale back games. My PSP/DS/3DS library is probably around 60 games, although I haven't recently counted. That's really just an estimate. I have a large collection of PC and 360 games too. But I've recently gone almost exclusively handheld.
The only games I'll buy digitally are the PSN (SEN) exclusives. Other than that, hard copies all the way.
I'm actually thinking of waiting for third party memory cards to launch before buying now, I like the Vita a lot but launching with only 16gb cards in the UK in this day and age is stupid, To put it in perspective I have a 32gb card even in my old PSP I even have 32gb in my ereader. On a plus point T3 magazine gave vita a pretty glowing review and said the battery lasted over 5 hours gaming and it's the best portable gaming system so far. I find that pretty hard to buy when the better PSP UMD games were about 1.5gb, Vita games are surely a good bit larger I think 3gb at least although of course there will be games much smaller as well. I'm still struggling to get my head round Sony trying it on with tiny 8 and 16gb cards I feel their endangering what could be a really good system with pure stupidness.
I am trying to find some good vita game play footage. Does any one have some links that they would be so kind to share. I'm trying to find some good videos to help make a purchase decision but a lot of videos I've already seen and ign and other similar sites don't seem to have any thing fairly recent. Thanks!
I've made up my mind I'm not buying one I've been hyped about it since I first read about it (even had cash set aside) and have probably promoted it as much as anyone but Sony has really annoyed me by not letting Europe have 32gb cards which I don't even consider to be large enough. I'm not settling for smaller cards when they give the good one's to Japan and the US. Not only do they rip the UK of in prices but now we are getting inferior products. I'll reconsider it when the 32gb cards are here or when third partys give me the option of alternatives. Glad I didn't pre order it's disappointing but I feel it necessary to skip it for now.
Try this: http://www.youtube.com/user/KineticElements?feature=g-user-a I love this channel, but omni's voice might annoy you http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=%2F&gl=US#/profile?user=OmniOmegaOB There is a whole Vita Playlist and are really decent quality.
I was quite annoyed when I learned we wouldn't be getting the 32gig card as well but after consideration I don't think it's as bad as all that, I intend to buy physical copys of all major releases anyway so the memory size shouldn't be an issue as it will mainly be used for game saves and such, I ordered the 16gig card just in case anyway and amazon have just emailed me my code to claim my free 8 gig one also so I'll have plenty of space they also emailed me a code to get a game for £15 as well but the selection doesn't appeal that much (to me anyway) the selection is as follows: asphalt injection, Michael Jackson: the experience HD, Rayman Origins, Dungeon Hunter Alliance, Virtual Tennis 4, or Lumines Electronic Symphony. I'm swaying towards picking up Virtua tennis for £15 to be honest as nothing else on the list really excites me, Rayman looks ok so maybe I'll consider that.
On the other hand, we thought we'd be fine starting out with 20GB models of the 360 and PS3, but it turns out... that wasn't even half of what demand called for. They obviously didn't expect digital sales to blow up quite as much as they did, so for a handheld that's supposedly focused around digital sales you'd think they'd be more careful.
Maybe your right I did intend to buy the retail games at first anyway but the fact that really annoys me is you really need a card to play and having to buy a small one means there is a high chance you will need the bigger one later and it's not like you can use the small one for any other purpose. I just want to buy the biggest card stick it in and not have to micromanage space and not being able to really puts me off buying the console altogether. I'll play wait and see and if import cards work I may do it that way.
True, I haven't factored in the downloading of demos into that obviously, I'm sure there will eventually be bigger storage available but for the time being I'm sure 24 gig (spread between 2 cards obviously) will be sufficient.
Another good point, I already have to manage space on my 16gig iPad 2 to make sure I've got enough free space for the latest stuff so having to do the same for another device will be a pain in the arse, I think I'm gonna keep the 8gig card solely for game saves and suchlike and use the 16gig one for demos and digital purchases.
Yeah, I suppose with this setup it's far easier to start manufacturing larger memory sticks than it is entire HDDs.
GameStop has outfitted some of their US stores with demo Vitas. So if you're looking to try one out, you can see if there's one in your area here.
Tried one yesterday! It was awesome! Analog sticks are going to take some getting used to though... BUT WHO CARES???!!
I pointed out those demo stations in this thread over a week ago. I posted a bunch of impressions based upon those demo stations, which are not exactly new. Granted, some obviously are new, but Gamestop has been rolling out those stations for a while now. I also made it clear that the second analog stick, the left analog stick is loose. Calibration options in game or just getting enough practice time using the analog sticks to adjust to the default calibration setting will like fix that issue.
