I like games that can be played in short bursts as I have a couple young kids. Not a huge deal as I can put the Vita in sleep. I think you can transfer the LocoRoco games using a PS3 too.
I've been playing only Disgaea 3 ever since I got my pre-order on Tuesday and have clocked in over 18 hours already. The game might not look too impressive from screenshots and videos, but the Vita's OLED screen really makes the game's vibrant colors pop out. Disgaea 3 was one of the main reasons I decided to go with Vita rather than 3DS back in November when I debated which new portable system to buy, and I'm happy to report the game does not disappoint. If you have any questions about it, ask away. tl;dr: If you are even slightly interested in SRPGs, do yourself a favor and buy Disgaea 3 now.
Already own Disgaea 3 and currently playing it. That is what had me thinking Disgaea 1 or 2 as well. I played Disgaea 1 on PS2 when it launched and on PSP. Only played the 2nd one for a bit before my PSP got stolen from me at work one day.
I'm just posting a plea of sorts for more people to give Disgaea 3 a try because I haven't seen it being mentioned too much around here. Glad to hear you're enjoying the game though.
It's really good, liking it a lot so far and it was only ten bucks. Graphics are pretty impressive for a PSP game. @Drucifer, in case you're interested, Gladiator Begins can be played in short bursts as the fights don't last very long.(I also have two kids) Here's a good vid for it(I usually go to Classic Game Room for reviews)
Thinking about getting God of War: Chains of Olympus, but not sure whether I should get the PSP version for my Vita, or the HD Collection for PS3. Used to own the PSP version so I'm leaning towards the HD version with its improved graphics and trophies, but at the same time, the PSP version is portable. What do you guys think?
God of War: PSP - It's portable. PS3 - Better graphics, trophies, cheaper as well if you consider that you're not getting just one game, though GoW: CoO is cheaper by itself. The PS3 version just seems like a better deal, but if it being portable is a big enough plus for you and you don't really want Ghost of Sparta, then just getting GoW:CoO for the PSP looks like it better suits your needs.
I'm still on the fence about this one, I like SRPGs and it looks good but I'm not sure I have the patience to stand grind-heavy RPGs anymore. The HD collection because: 1) In short, it's a better version; 2) I could bet the HD versions will eventually be ported to the Vita which will turn the PSP ones immediately obsolete.
I'll be picking up Disgaea 3 as soon as I can find a PSN card but it's getting hard to find those where I am now, places that have them one week don't have them the next, they seem to be selling out pretty fast now. Truthfully digital is my only choice now because It's become way to inconvenient for me to buy Vita games physically thanks to EA/Capcom trying to kill GAME UK and me now being unable to find anywhere local with decent titles.
I agree, I listened and fell for the whole "It's a .99 app selling for $40" deal. You know, if the apps never came out and this was released for the first time on Vita, it would have been more of a success. Truthfully, I bought DH:A and Asphalt Injection and they have been some of my top played games on the Vita. I don't mind GL games, some of them are actually decent. But man, I'm really liking playing with the Mage. I'm saving Rogue for last since everyone says that's the best class, but Mage is more enjoyable than warrior at this point. Love varying the spells up, feels like Gauntlet at times. Side question though. Anyone here have Army Corps of Hell? I'm seriously debating it since it looks like fun. I understand it's suppose to be repetitive, but if it's fun then that's okay (look at DH:A - Hack, slash, heal, repeat - so good!).
I agree Micro I am really liking DH:A like alot, I must say I am almost addicted it seems to playing a few rounds of the Pit then leveling in the game just to wear the new stuff I got in the Pit! I am almost 30 so I cant wait to buy that crystal gear, then I probably will work on my mage since I love the mages AOE... still looking for my first red item in the Pit though I wonder what lv you need to be to see them start dropping?
yeah, think I'm going to get the HD collection, because it is cheaper than both PSP games (which really should have their prices dropped to like $15) and it's the better version.
I was at Target today and found a number of Vita items on Clearance already. They had the A/C Adapter and USB Cable for $7.48 each. I also snagged the Vita Travel Pouch since it was only $9.98. I was hoping it could fit the Vita + Hori Face cover in and it does perfectly: http://s937.photobucket.com/albums/ad220/kman316/?action=view¤t=IMG_0954.jpg http://s937.photobucket.com/albums/ad220/kman316/?action=view¤t=IMG_0953.jpg http://s937.photobucket.com/albums/ad220/kman316/?action=view¤t=IMG_0955.jpg Case it a little wide, but very plush and I feel much better when carrying back and forth to work now. Just thought I'd pass it along in case anyone was interested.
Amazon is has Army Corps of Hell on sale for 29.99 just fyi. I think I'm gona give Hot Shots a break for a while, for some reason I just cant get into a grove on that game. I've been stuck on the silver league for a while and just cant seem to advance.
I hit a wall with HSG, put that down a while ago. I'll get back into it in a few weeks. Thanks for the heads up on ACoH on Amazon, might get it for that price. On a side note, I am SO happy! Took a gamble picking up Split/Second on my PS3 and it transferred! I love that game, it's really a decent racer that never got the attention it deserved. So with that, the Burnouts and Gran Turismo, all I need is Motorstrm and I'll be 100% happy. For those interested, I downloaded it from the US PSN.
Split Second worked? Hmm, I might get it then.... I might also get ACoH for that price(thanks SirAwesome). Already have Mortal Kombat preordered from Amazon. Really loving Gladiator Begins for the PSP on my Vita, I played it all last night. I've been spending more money that I thought I would be at this time of the year
(Rant Mode On) How is it possible that the Vita doesn't have a proper save files backup or, in the absence of that, a simple separation of it from the main game data such as the PS3 and even the PSP? Need to free space in my memory card to new games, can't delete installed ones because if I do that their saves go to hell too, and as I never delete my saved data I'm stalled. I know I can backup to PS3 or PC but that only works for the entire card and unless I'm mistaken even then you can't restore individual files, so it's pointless. Way to make money with digital games, Sony.
I agree with you on the save game issue. It is exactly what I despised with iOS game saves. Delete the game, lose the save. Ugh... I'm guessing it has to do with somewhat as an anti-piracy mechanism. It seems like a number of exploits came about through the manipulation of save game files. Now that individual saves cannot be downloaded or made easily available, that somewhat inherently eliminates that problem. The only other gripe I have is with switching of memory sticks. I upgraded from an 8GB to a 16GB thinking I could just put music/video on my 8 while using my 16GB for games. Unless I'm doing something wrong, each time I switch cards, it rebuilds my database and messes up all of my icon placements and wallpaper. WTF? I was really hoping it would be a little more intelligent to be able to retain all of the UI settings when a memory card is switched. If you try to run an app that's on the other memory card, it should gripe just like it does when you don't have the right game card in. Like I said, am I doing it wrong or is this really how it works? The only saving grace is my son is saving up for a Vita so when he get's his, I'll have an 8gb card all ready to go for him. *edit* Oh, what I meant to say before going on my own personal rant was that I also tried Crash Tag Team Racing, Echochrome and the PSP Super Stardust Portable and they all worked as well. SSD is so different on a 2D plane. It also seemed like it was moving along faster than the Vita version. *edit * Saw that Skype is out tonight in the US for those interested. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/04/24/ps-vita-gets-skype-video-and-voice-calling-today/
If you haven't picked it up yet, I'd throw in a discouraging vote. I found it to be pretty repetitive, and I'm usually a fan of hack/slash/repeat-style games. That said, I'm not that big on any kind of squad-based games, and Army Corps of Hell is basically Heavy Metal Pikmin. If you like those, though, then it'd probably be a lot more enjoyable.
