On launch $250 PS VITA Wifi only $50 Uncharted $40 Gravity Rush(Looks awesome!) $40 PS Vita starter Kit Total: $380 -$50 (coupon and giftcard ) $330 I currently have $231 and should get $100 or so dollars from my psp and all my games! Its looking good! Might have to cut Gravity rush and the Starter bundle and just get a 4gb memery card though
Gravity Rush probably isn't a launch title though. The Sony website still lists it as Spring 2012. My pre-order on Amazon: $300 Vita 3G Bundle $40 Starter Kit $40 BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend $40 Disgaea 3 (April 17 :/) $40 Gravity Rush (Amazon has it as late May release...) Total: $460 - $150 (Amazon credit) = $310
On Launch: I'm not getting the Vita on launch >.< I'm too lazy to sell my stuff for money. I want one though. I really do.
Where I stay, the WiFi only Vita will be launched at an official price of $400 while the WiFi+3G will set me back $500. MvC3 will be sold here for $56 Uncharted will be sold for $56 Total damage done will be about $515 since I don't need 3G. Sigh... too bad I don't have that much at the moment. Anyways, i'll choose to remain happy with the 4S + iPad 2 combo I have going. Unless I sell my iPad 2 and.... no.. NO!! Must... resist.....
Haven't preordered one myself but I do intend to buy one within the first few weeks hopefully. The only games I'm definitely 100% buying on launch are Wipeout and Hot Shots Golf but I do have my eyes on quite a few titles. I know wipeout is a safe bet because I love those games and if it's as good as Wipeout Pulse on PSP I'll play it to death the same goes with HotShots Golf the PSP title was one of the few I always went back to. To the guy who kept saying he constantly hit the wall in Wipeout that's pretty normal for a first time player it does take quite a while at first to master the craft and corners but when you do the game is awesome. Also looking forward to Disgaea 3 I'd class all the Disgaea games above Final Fantasy Tactics by a mile and they all have quite amusing plotlines and probably hundreds of hours of gameplay due to the crazy levelling.
I agree about launch titles being one-trick ponies. Remember how excited people were for Red Steel on the Wii? Now it's considered complete garbage. There are very few launch games you can look back on a few years into a console's life and really say they pushed the mold. In my experience you've gotta wait for the launch rush to finish before developers will sit down, relax and start working on something truly impressive, which usually ties in with the next console upgrade, so you've got a few fixes to the hardware and a decent-sized library when you jump in. Personally I'm waiting until I've built a list of at least ten games, no less, before I consider the console worthy. Then I can be more certain they'll contnue to progress at this level of quality and Sony didn't just rush one or two pretty-looking games out to lure me in and then leave me hanging. They've gotta be somewhat unique too, Rayman doesn't count because I already own it, Uncharted is kind of on the line considering it's not quite on the same level as its PS3 counterparts. Monster Hunter would probably do the trick, maybe a nice Resident Evil or a new Castlevania game. That kinda stuff.
How's everyone finding the Vita so far? Also, if you have a 3G version, do you have to pay monthly for data, or is it all free like on an Amazon Kindle?
The data plan is contract-free and costs $15 for 250MB or $30 for 3GB per month. Honestly, I'm probably only going to pay for 1 month of data, redeem the free month that comes with the launch package, and then cancel the plan until I actually need it.
I have no doubts about the launch / launch window lineup. From what I've heard, Uncharted is supposed to be ~10hrs to complete the story. Wipeout is top of the line in terms of MP content, including cross-play. UMvC3, tons of characters and online MP. If that's not your style of beat 'em up, Street Fighter x Tekken should be available within the launch window (I think?) and same with Mortal Combat. Disgea for RPG fans. Rayman has its fans. Ninja Gaiden has its hardcore fans. Not to mention LBP (day1 buy). No need to elaborate how that game is virtually infinitely playable. Resistance: Burning Skies, Vita's first online FPS multiplayer shooter -- needless to say, day1 buy. These are all games that interest me atm, I'm sure I've missed a few. Quality games from the launch window is the last of my concerns, it's whether I'll have the time to play half of them that has me hesitant to grab a bunch of these. I'll be playing demos to start off and go from there. EDIT: I did miss a few -- Gravity Rush, BlazBlue, FIFA, Warroir's Lair and a few PSN exclusives.
Okay new launch cost: Ps Vita $250 Uncharted $50 PSN card ( for super stardust delta) $20 Starter kit $40 Total: $360 I have $290 with my coupon and giftcard. Gamestop is having a promotion for +$25 when you trade in your PSP. Since I have the 3000 and since its in pristine condition I'll easily get $50 for it and even if I get $1 for each of my games I'll still have enough! Can't wait!
haven't read much of this thread but just thought I'd stick my head in - I'm expecting this is gonna be "pro-vita" attitude in here (obviously) so I will try not to be too detracting.. that being said, I will be very shocked if this does well, and best-case scenario I expect they will have a similar 1st year run as the 3DS did - meaning slow slog of a start, with some better software down the road. Well, perhaps better, since they can hopefully ride some of the 3DS more recent wave of (relative) victory. Something which I've not heard much mention of, the notion that someone might finally craft a heavy-duty FPS (console quality) then this is certainly the platform to support such a thing. I'd reckon that could actually change the landscape a fair bit, but I wonder what that would really entail? Not cheap to make such games - and they'd likely need to get through a generation or so 1st to iron out the kinks - but if someone really does it right (particularly playing to the gimmicks, errr, strengths of the PSV hardware) then it might be kind of a big deal. I am not saying just another COD port, mind you, but something that's created "all in..." We'll see. For that matter, FPS on 3DS would also be interesting for reasons one can imagine, but I think the PSV would absolutely trump it with tech, control, and network support. Still, I'd like to see someone try - between these two notions, it could reinvigorate what is starting to become a little bit of a stale genre.
I can't wait to see the first year either... Me and my 3DS had it rough. Speaking of console FPS I'm really interested in seeing resistance burning skies. The demo video I saw looked awesome so I don't expect anything less of it. The tech in the thing is amazing. Simple things like tapping the back touch pad to reload would keep you in the action without taking you away from the action! I'm actually really interested in seeing a GOOD mobile COD port along with bioshock and battlefield. I'm sure we'll see some crazy control ideas just like kinects voice commands in Mass Effect 3. With the touchpad and touchscreen this thing has so many possibilities!
3G Launch Bundle: $300 Uncharted Golden Abyss: $50 Wipeout 2048: $40 Hot Shots Golf World Invitational: $40 16 GB Memory Card: $60 (Optional, have to see how long 8 GB will last) Screen Protectors: $15 So the total will either be: $445 or $505, hopefully it's $445 cause I've got $360 now. Oh and another game that seems to be under the radar is Unit 13. Made from the original guys of SOCOM (Zipper Interactive). The game looks pretty damn fun with the asynchronous friend competition along with a shit-load of missions and they're all varied (Infiltration, extraction, assassination, etc) and you get to level up all of your people in your squad. Sounds damn good to me.
Is Unit 13 a variation of The Club. Wave based, or round-based survival mode. Like Firefight, or Spec Ops, or Hoard mode? That's my question. It seems like maybe there is a scoreboard element, like with the Club, but individual objective-based missions that maybe don't tie into any broad storyline, like the Spec Ops mode from recent Call of Duty games. If that is what we're talking here. Not a full-fledged game with all the integrated elements, but rather a glorified mini game, then I'm not interested. I'm sick of those type of "games." even if it comes disguised in this case with pretty bells and whistles. That is not what most people are buying a Vita for. Maybe I'm wrong and Unit 13 will be supplying a compete gaming experience. That is not the impression I have gotten though.
Unit 13 is definitely not centered around wave based combat or a hoard mode, that's for sure. It's more a tactical shooter. The lack of a structured story is really what draws my attention away but I definitely think it looks good, no doubt. 36 different missions can be unlocked and selected through a central "hub". 4 unique characters to play with on any given mission and customizable/upgradable weapons and equipment on top of that. Add online co-op and you've got no ordinary "mini game". I think if there were consistent cutscenes tying the 36 missions, it would easily please those (including me) who see this as a side attraction rather than a full fledged gaming experience. With that said, it still looks impressive and more importantly, fun.
I'd like to state the obvious. New gaming platforms tend to generate modest returns in their first year because major third-party support takes more than a year to generate.
I'd be stunned if it didn't do a lot better than the 3DS as I think it appeals to the kind of gamer who can actually afford new consoles. I don't know about the rest of the world but the 3DS was absolutely hammered in the British press, I read at least three articles claiming it would damage kids eyesight, give migraines, make players nauseous and had the worst battery of any handheld. That being said I don't think we will see the best games straight away it took the PSP almost to the end of it's lifecycle to really start showing it's hidden potential. I think a monster hunter game even coming to Vita guarantees it success in Asia so I really have no worrys about games drying up. I think Sony has ticked all the right boxes this time round the only thing I would have changed is losing the back touchpad and giving it removable batterys also wished they had of went with microSD as storage but I always knew they wouldn't.
Just a month away and I'm flip flopping on what pre-order games I want. For me, there are so many release titles that appeal, but I'm trying to just limit myself to just 2 to spread out the games in case there is a drought. So far, I've decided on: - Vita wifi/3G bundle - $299 - Uncharted I've got Hot Shots Golf pre-ordered, but am really considering getting Wipeout, Modnation (originally and then changed to HSG) or Katamari. Those are the main ones for me at this point and I would get all of these in a heartbeat. I haven't played Katamari in a LONG time and that was one of my "go to" games for the PSP. I know, First World Problems...
