I like this, it reminds me of games when I was a kid back in the 8bit days. Games these days are a joke in comparison. Sure they're pretty to look at, but wheres the challenge? I understand theres a fine line between challenge and tedium, but for my money, I don't mind the learning curve, its part of the process.
That's good to hear. Mine's been squeaking too, so I'll have to try that fix out. speaking of malfunctions, Near is really annoying me. For the first week It didn't work at all, so I submitted my router's MAC address to Skyhook. Then two days of it working and having fun spying on what others in my area were playing. Now its not working again, just saying 'unable to find your location. sending previously obtained data....an error has occurred'
I think I know what your problem is. If you go to the title screen and look closely, you'll notice that you bought Ridge Racer. Seriously, though, if you want a good racing game for the Vita, check out F1. I've been really impressed by it so far, and the learning curve (at least on easy) makes it enjoyable.
I am starting to see what you mean, I really am getting the itch to beat a few of the ones I have had difficulty on.... I havent felt like that with a game in a while!
Hah, yeah, i know... But I'm one of the RR diehards, I have it on every device I own (I'm the same way with Pacman). I'll take a look at F1, and Wipeout for that matter, it might be a nice distraction while I rest my brain from the toils of placing 1st in RR. It is a nice sense of accomplishment, and who knows, it might make you sharper in the long run. At least thats what I keep telling myself, lol. Honestly though, I can't remember when a game gave me a real challenge. I like winning, who doesn't? But... I also like to know I did something that not everyone else can do on their first go, which seems to be the status quo on today's games. It's like an "Everybody wins a prize" competition.
Haha. I haven't played F1 but I'd vouche for WipEout being a very impressive racer. I'd say you couldn't go wrong with that one, although load times are pretty heavy.
Wipeout 2048 is good very tough difficulty in the later races though and I preferred the tracks on the PSP versions but I've read future DLC will mean more tracks and features. Very good graphics and online play.
I love Foos! Literally hunt for bars with one in so me and my cousin can play. Bar Kick in London is quality! How foos translates to analogue sticks we'll see... I'm sure far better than the awful IOS foos games, which are technically sound but crippled by the touchscreen. I'll stay optimistic Makes a huge difference eh! It also makes you wonder why you're having to take a screwdriver to you £230 new gadget.... wouldn't happen in Apples kitchen I read a 6/10 review for F1 which put me off... and another that talked about the controls being too twitchy. Not to mention sub-standard graphics. But...... I thought it looked decent. How are you finding controls? Are there options for adjusting sensitivity etc?
If it was apple you'd have to set up an appointment at the next apple store and get a replacement with a small problem like this. They thought the screw holes wouldn't look good enough, so they covered them up.
Ever take a look at the back side of the PSV's bezel next to the lanyard holes? Another sad reminder this isn't an Apple product. In other news I picked up a 16gb memory card, that leaves me with a 16, an 8 and a 4, two of which are totally useless thanks to proprietary formats! Now that I've got the space though, I think its time to check out f1 and wipeout
I finally managed to get this trophy in Wipeout! It took me ages, but for some reason I even managed to go on for another 5 Zones up to Zone 70 in that event! (IMO) Fitting screenshot after that:
Or they'd tell you it's supposed to be like that, and if you're worried about it you can contact Apple support. Or they'd just tell you you're obviously doing something wrong.
Just thought I'd make a side-by-side screen comparison video between the Vita and the iPod (both playing the intro video from Wipeout): Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel
Well...with the provisos that 1) I've never played any other F1 games and 2) I play with driving assists (i.e. driving line and automatic shifting), I've found that it looks and controls pretty well. I actually liked it more than Wipeout, to be honest; the controls seemed a lot more precise to me. But both are excellent games.
The controls on F1 for the Vita are solid. The controls for F1 on the 3DS are extremely twitchy and unreliable. Good luck holding your line. Beyond improved graphics and improved controls, F1 for the Vita is an exact port of F1 for the 3DS. It's hard to get into the career or campaign mode. It is there, but that sort of thing just doesn't fit into handheld/mobile gaming. Entire race weekends are not mobile friendly. If you want to go there, you are more then welcome to do so. The real portable portion of the game comes in the form of 60 individual challenge stages. Talk about depressing. Chaos Rings 2 currently ranks 172 on the U.S. AppStore's list of top grossing games, which ranks it behind exactly 90 free-to-download apps. 90 Freemium apps are making more Money then Chaos Rings 2. Thank God for the Vita. For the dedicated gamer, the AppStore has become somewhat of a disgrace. I will say that there is a somewhat higher percentage of successful paid apps when it comes to the iPad. That is at least something. It's like a 50/50 split. 50% paid. 50% Freemium. For the iPhone, its more like 60% Freemium, 40% paid. We are entering a real lull in software development for the 3DS and Vita too. There's almost nothing coming out in April or the rest of March.
So guys, you really helped me make my decision, and I will probably be getting a Vita tomorrow. What game(s) would you recommend me picking up along with it, or even some suggestions for games I should download?
Defiantly get Motorstorm and Superstardust both cheap on Psn store and for a game- either Rayman uncharted FIFA Depends what kinda games our into
