I'm open to trying lots of things: basically I want something fun with good production values, be it a platformer, RPG shooter etc. But I don't really like fighters, racing or sport games, or modern military shooters. As I've never owned a Sony system before, I'm new to a lot of the franchises.

Not so sure about Shadow Gun having more enemy variety. I'd say it had less, because there's an enemy for every gun in Uncharted- and there's a lot of guns. Not really any different than other Uncharted games in terms of enemies, though it is lacking any sort of mutant/supernatural creatures (totally thought I'd be fighting irradiated zombies or something towards the end- kind of disappointed in the creatures department).

I didn't find the story to be bad at all. I've heard a few people call it "Sci-fi channel-esque", but I don't really see that at all. It had a better story than every Sci-fi channel original movie I've seen, and it was nowhere near as cheesy. The story wasn't as glamorous as the other Uncharted games (comparable to the first though), but it was a bit more believable than some of the other stories. I'd put it above National Treasure 2, which had a comparable story. Heck, I'd put it above Indiana Jones 4 (which also had a comparable story). The dialogue wasn't bad (though Chase's comment about the charcoal rubbings in the beginning sounded tacky), and the characters weren't horrible either, though there wasn't much character development and the general could've been more fleshed out- he had such a low amount of screen-time (though this is common in the other Uncharted games).

My main disappointment came from how few the puzzles were. I also wish there were some huge structures to scale like in other Uncharted games, and like I said before, some creatures would've been sweet (even if they were all a hallucination a la Uncharted 3). I enjoyed it overall though, despite some annoyances.

I downloaded the DLC Treasure Map pack for Uncharted but for some reason, the application is not installed into the game. I've tried restarting the game a couple of times but nothing changed.

Anyone that bought the DLC had this issue? Need a little help..

EDIT: Never mind.. I guess there's a patch update for that. Kind of a weird spot to place it (orange and down arrow) because I would have never figured it out without reading/searching about it.

If you're even remotely into FF then I'd recommend checking out Disssidia 012. I've been playing a ton in the last few days and it does not disappoint, imaging Super Smash bros. with RPG elements. It should still be half off so if it interests you, u should jump on the deal ASAP.

Also, Monster Hunter is really good if you're into stuff like Dark Soul / Demon's Souls, but I couldn't recommend it if you're looking for something with a more grand, central story. It seems to be either hit or miss for most people.

The Ys series gets a ton of praise. I haven't bought it myself but I plan to once I get through some of the games I already own.

    I really like RPGs.

Never really liked the Dissidia games even though I do really like a few of the Final Fantasy games. I did really like Vice City Stories on the PSP it's a lot better than Liberty cities if you are choosing between the two in my opinion.

Monster Hunter Freedom unite I disliked at first then I seriously played it for a while but you eventually get to a stage where it's almost impossible to continue the missions without help the games really designed for adhoc. I'm not sure how far I actually got gamewise but I think I remember a stage where you had to fight a gigantic monster using cannons and I do mean gigantic. Found a clip on youtube

I think I'll wait for a Vita version of Monster Hunter it's almost certain to happen and I bet it will be amazing when it does.

On another subject I saw this trailer earlier today and it's making me think it might be a better choice for me than SF X Tekken, while I've always preferred Street Fighter over Mortal Kombat I would have preferred them to make a SF4 only game than the mixed Vs games announced so far also I've heard good things about the new Mortal Kombat alas not played it yet.

I'm hearing 2013 for that one :( I loved PSO on the DC / GC so was really hoping for this a little sooner... we don't even know it'll make it to US/European stores. Was hoping to buy PSPs Phantasy Star Portable 2, but it seems to have been removed from PSN Store... ?

If the quality of their PSP games is anything to go buy, I wouldn't expect too much out of anything Gameloft makes for the Vita. I played their ports of Hero of Sparta and NOVA, and they were both pretty bad; the graphics were terrible, and the controls didn't seem like they'd been thought through very well. Going by the reviews that Dungeon Hunter and Asphalt got, it seems like those things carried over to Gameloft's first Vita games. While it would certainly be nice if the company showed they were capable of making something awesome (and even nicer if they did it with a genuinely original IP), there's nothing in their recent history that suggests it's probable.

On a totally unrelated topic, has anyone played MLB 12? I finally got around to playing it yesterday, and I was a little underwhelmed. I spent an absurd amount of time playing MLB 10 on my PSP, so maybe I'm just not used to playing something different, but it just felt a little...meh. It definitely looks nicer, but the gameplay and the sound both seem a little off to me.

Both GL's PSP games are minis with their roots in iOS, that sell for a few dollars. Given their history with FPS I'd imagine they could pull off something half decent, especially if it really is mimicking Battlefiield. And whatever they have cooking for the Vita is a supposed new franchise, without its roots on iOS. That alone gives a light of hope. But I have to agree with you 100%, given their record on Vita I'm more than a little skeptical.

You know every time I see something happen like what Dark Meadow just did I get overjoyed with my Vita purchase. This whole freemium movement is what made me get a Vita to be honest.

Picked up my Vita on friday, and have to say Sony did a lot of things right this time. Its clear much of their influence from the aesthetics, to the UI, down to the ps store has come from Apple. Kudos, I'm loving it! I haven't even opened Uncharted yet, its still in the wrapper, been catching up on PSP games :p

My only gripe? AT&T's data packages are a JOKE! 15 bucks for 250 megs? Really? I feel like I blew money getting the 3G version, but I guess the 8gb memory card was worth it - unless the non 3G version comes with one too :\

Is MyWi like mobile wifi like a MIFI? If so why get a 3g version since wifi is free.

It's a coveted jailbreak application that will share your 3G with other devices over it's own mini wifi network. I use it to share internet with my wifi-iPad, but over the years I've gotten tired of holding off on iOS updates until a jailbreak is released just so I can have MyWi again. So, my next iPad will be 3G, and with that in mind, I thought going 3G on my Vita would serve the same purpose. Unfortunately I didn't do my homework to see what the data plans were like, and after seeing AT&T wants 14.99 for ONLY 250 megs of transfer, well... suddenly the hassle of holding off on iOS updates to save myself from paying for the same internet at home, my phone, my ipad, & my vita doesn't sound that bad. #liveandlearn

Just saw that and left my own thoughts in the thread. Both Jetpack Joyride and Temple Run were huge successes after transitioning to f2p, it's just the nature of the AppStore it seems, so developers follow along.

In works on casual gamers. On dedicated, hardcore gamers, not so much. That is why many have drifted away. I'm too much of a video game collecting addict to abandon iOS gaming entirely, but I doubt I download more then a few games a month. The success of Freemium gaming is proof that the AppStore is no longer intended for us, the real gamer. You have to understand that devs are more interested these days in trying peddle their wares to people who don't even consider themselves to be gamers at all. Because virtually everyone owns a smartphone, often times merely as a phone and a social HUB. These smartphones are in the hands of a whole bunch of people who don't give a damn about gaming, one way or another, and yet these devs are still trying to find a way to tap into this consumer base of complete non-gamers. In the process, they are turning their backs upon people who actually care about gaming. It's sad, what the AppStore has become.

There's still a few gems out there though. Real games do exist, but they are an endangered species around these parts.

I bought Mass Effect Infiltrator. Ravensword 2 looks pretty awesome. CM is the best independent developer on the AppStore, so i'll be the first in line the day that comes out. Forgotten Memories, God willing, will hit the market this year. Give me a real iOS game, and I'm all over it.

Resistance and Gravity Rush are the next two Vita games, for me. Too bad it's going to be a while.

I wouldn't kid ourselves here with the F2P, that's a model more and more companies will move towards on ALL platforms in the very near future, in fact I wouldn't be surprised to see vita get some F2P games by next year. I take bigger issue buying a game on vita for $50 and having another $20 in DLC available the same day as release than I do with F2P on iOS. That shows companies are intentionally making a game, removing some parts of it (making it "incomplete" in my eyes) and then turning around and adding an additional charge to the consumer.

Maybe games are harder/more expensive to produce these days, maybe the suits in x video game company are getting greedier, I'm not quite sure why the major shift. What I do know is, as consumers this issue will not get better anytime soon and until it does people will either have to accept incomplete games, or buy the DLC. Personally I skip all DLC, but honestly it irks the hell out of me everytime I see ads to buy crap for my games and it absolutely ruined many franchises for me (sims,tf2,diablo...).

I'm not against DLC per'se, I'm mainly against day one DLC. It doesn't matter if it's cosmetic or not I will continually feel somewhat ripped off. With the F2P I can't really complain as I never paid a dime in the first place. To me DLC feels like going to a bar and ordering a beer for $5 and being handed a bag of beer and then getting offered to rent the glass from them at another $2.50. Sure I can drink my beer just fine but I'd rather be as fancy as the rest of the people drinking from their glasses. SO, what would be a better compromise? How about just charging me the $7.50 straight out for the whole shebang so I don't feel like I'm getting nickeled and dimed everytime, or quit being such cheap dicks and just sell me the beer in a glass for the same price as its been for ages!!!!

Most recent example of this would be Mass Effect 3. I completely agree with you, day1 DLC sucks. Good thing SONY's first-party games aren't known to abuse the concept.

    Hope I haven't jinxed it....

Yea I would say Mass Effect 3 is a perfect example of a greedy company completing a game then removing part of it to sell it separately. I would love to know if anyone has some numbers on the cost of game production today versus say 10 years ago and the cost of games. As far as I can remember I paid $40-50 over ten years ago for N64 and playstation games and those price points have remained pretty much the same while the economy has gotten worse. With that in mind it makes sense for companies to try and make some money back, but why not just raise the price of the game outright? My guess is games are more money to make now for most companies then they were back in the day but are also afraid to bump up average game prices to say $70. By fragmenting the games at different prices with the dlc and the same amount of production cost seems an easy way to offset the difference, but I'm just guessing here.

Food for thought: in Australia, new release console games such as Mass Effect 3 are normally between $70 and $100. The majority fall between $80 and $90. It's been this way for as long as I can recall; going back at least to the days of 32bit console launches.

It used to be that the Australian dollar was worth 60-70 US cents, which justified the difference. Since the Australian dollar got stronger with relation to the US, up to being of equal or greater value, we have seen almost zero change in price of games. Currently, we are literally paying twice as much.

I guess the point is, these companies will charge as much as they can get away with. Period. Of course this doesn't only apply to games.
