Just picked up Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel for £24.99 on eBay - only an hour in but seems a great game so far !! Reminds me a little of Crisis Core between battles but has a unique turn based battle system and it has me hooked.
Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel So far XCOM EU Plus is my least favourite version of XCOM. (Having played the PC and android versions of it before)
I could never bring myself to try the Xcom remakes, I loved the original (top down PSX version) so much I just can't see how 3d would improve a strategy game and I still occasionally play clones like Xenonauts which aren't bad but just don't seem to work as well as the original. Saying that though this is the first Vita title to make me anyway curious since Killzone and the first time I've thought about buying one for a long time.
The original (PC version, even better than the PSX one) is my all time favorite game, spent thousands of hours in it and even nowadays go back to it from time to time. Enemy Unknown was a huge disappointment to me, it looked at first that they got what made the original so great but no, they didn't. At all. It's a very good game but three decades later UFO Defense still destroys it as a strategy game.
Going to disagree I have played both along with terror from the deep and even apocolypse. The PS1 version was the PC version only with slightly better graphics some cgi scenes and a couple more Tank variants. I bought the PS1 mouse solely for that game and I think I likely put more hours into it than anything else I've ever played so we have that in common. Not knocking the PC version it's a true classic and brilliant but the PS1 version was just a slight tweak better in my opinion but really only with the mouse.
You may already but wouldn't mind seeing you do a comparison vid on PC EU/EW against 2, those Steam reviews are hella contradictory and have put me off buying a few times.
I'm tempted to pick up xcom. I'm hesitant due to the lack of marketing/attention given - has anyone had a good go on this yet? Other than a slight graphic drop, how does it compare with the IOS version? Edit: Actually just spotted Der-Kleine's gameplay video on YouTube. It looks pretty decent so I think I will jump in. I enjoy the series and am curious as to what the "Plus" bit is. I am guessing the EW content is the "Plus" bit as I have heard it is featured but interested to see if there is also anything else. Only trouble is when I get round to playing ......
I never had the PS1 mouse, that would have made a world of difference for sure. Also liked very much TFTD and Apocalypse but they didn't come close to the brilliance of the first one.
A comparison of what exactly? If you want to hear my oppinion on the two, here's why I think XCOM 2 is a much better game than EU/EW: - Classes are more distinct, and have much better/more useful/diverse abilities. - The skill trees are better by actually forcing you to choose between various good abilities, resulting in more diversity (For example your sniper can specialise on sniping or gunning everything down with their pistol) - Character customisation is way better, though there is still room for improvement. - The randomly generated levels keep the game interesting for way longer - The timers in many of the missions are a bit of a controversial subject and can be a little bit on the short side, but they do keep the pace of a battle up. (Or you can of course mod them to give you more time/remove the timers entirely...) - The game in general is just a bit more polished in terms of its mechanics. For example soldiers on overwatch will no longer shoot at targets that an other overwatch shot has already taken out. - The concealment mechanic isn't amazing, but it's better than not having it at all and does speed up the beginning of missions where you start in concealment. Ambushes make your first engagement a little bit different from the rest. - Base building has been simplified, considering that I didn't like the way base building worked in EU/EW I see this as a plus. - I like the story & characters more - The Soundtrack is more interesting & diverse Some of my favourite songs from the soundtrack: Welcome to the Lab Squad Loadout (To be fair EU/EW's squad loadout song was better) Outpost This song which is inexplicably not part of the soundtrack despite being the best song in the game The Geoscape/Map music (also not part of the official soundtrack ) - It's really pretty (as seen below)
I'd like to play Xcom 2, but I have to wait for it to come to consoles (if it ever does). I don't have a gaming PC and have no plans to buy one.
That covers it well thanks Der Kleine, mainly interested mechanically how it plays out in comparison. My only reservation still would be base building but everything else sounds and looks better.
Went to my local Game whilst away for work to get this last night but not there's (even though the web site said this branch had them). Will pick up this week but has anyone played yet? Trailer looks great.
The people I know who've played one or more of the AC Chronicles games weren't impressed, but I can't provide any firsthand experience with it.
