Oh don't get me wrong, I like my Vita too. I just don't like Sonys handling of it. The hardware itself is great and I think once it's hacked wide open we'll see the real potential of the hardware realised.

I wouldn't mind getting stuck in about it and releasing some homebrew games at some point. Maybe one day.

At this point I don't really see what homebrew could offer, the Vita's hardware is pretty outdated by now and the only real advantage it has compared to most other mobile devices are the built in physical controls, which you can also get on those devices with various accessories.

You can't really compare it to the PSP back when smartphones were, well, shit.

I like my Vita too, I have had so many good times with it and still have so many games I want to play. The 3DS has done nothing for me, I tried so many times to get into it and in the end I always end up regretting the purchase. Completely different from the DS, which is my favorite handheld of all time.

I'm not sure how much I care or want the Vita to get fully hacked, I guess for emulators? Not even that interested in any emulators that the Vita would be capable of.

I like the Vita as well, but I haven't really used mine in months and there really hasn't been all that much noteworthy stuff for it in the past year. Plus I'd rather play new games on my other mobile devices, because other than the built in controlls it doesn't really have anythign going for it anymore.

And yeah, if the Vita does get hacked, I don't think it would be able to compete with any half-decent android device in terms of the ammount of emulators on offer and the performance at which it runs thsoe emulators.

Well, it's still a pretty competent device hardware wise, it's cot great controls and if you've already got a Vita and not an Android device, saves you from having to purchase one. However tempting an Nvidia Shield may be, though that I have to admit is luring me in :D

Besides, it's not always about the power of a device. Some of us like to tinker and release things that would never get on the platform otherwise. It's why even today there's new games being released for platforms such as the SNES, PC Engine, Megadrive and so many more. I just downloaded Rick Dangerous for the Megadrive and it's pretty good. Sure I played it to death on the Amiga back in the day but it's always interesting to see projects such as that.

I've got well over 30 consoles I've amassed over the years. I still play the original games but it's great to be able to play the various rom hacks and homebrew games on the actual physical hardware.

The hacking of the Vita would be good from the view of it actually getting used for something. It's days are numbered, of that there's no doubt and once the software dries up completely it would be nice to at least be able to tinker with it rather than gather dust.

I have a Vita, IPad Air 2 and also a Nvidia Shield Tablet. I got the Shield for gaming a year ago and have since given it to my son. It is a powerful tablet and some great games such as Half Life 2. Unfortunately, it suffers from a similar fate to other Android devices - only a small built in memory and a memory card is needed. Don't get me wrong, the Vita suffered terribly with this BUT with the Android, some games you are not able to install on the card and can only be installed on the internal memory. It fills up quick !! Also when you install on the card, any update automatically moves it back to the tablet again which means you have to go through the process of moving the games back to the card again!!

I love my Air 2 but not excited about the games on it (I don't have any controllers) and mainly use for work, clash of clans and films. Some of the older games are great like X-com and shadow run etc but, I don't know, I haven't played many games in a while.

I bought a 64gb card for my Vita (I know they are too expensive) and have tried to stick to physical games. I have benefited from many PSN sales over the last couple of years and have well over 100 games. I play it every day, even if it is for only 5 minutes with a blast on Montezuma or something. The Visual novels such as Danganronpa are getting more now and at first I didn't think I would like them but they have some great adult content and are not too taxing on the brain!!

I know the Vita won't last forever and Sony are unlikely to make any more (in fact they have already said they won't do another handheld) but I will enjoy while I can.

I'm attracted to the Shield tablets from a purely technical point, im not a fan of Android in general. I very much doubt I'll actually buy one, my Air 2 is my tablet of choice and will be until I get an iPad Pro :)
I've got a Windows tablet gathering dust on a shelf, bought that just for curiosity sake and I've got older iPads I use for development testing. So I can't really justify yet another tablet just for curiosity.

I definitely recommend getting a controller for the Air, it transforms some games completely.

I do like Plus for the freebies, it's given me some games I'd never have given the time of day to otherwise and while not everything is going to appeal I'll try anything once. It's definitely better than gold on the Xbox that way. I've had some good games from gold but there's nowhere near as many as on Plus and that covers all of my PlayStation devices, well apart from the psp any more obviously.
I've got a stack of Vita memory cards crammed with games. I'm going to have to invest in more in case any games come along that I like, pity they are so bloody expensive. but it's easier than moving games on and off cards and I like to keep them all available for when Im away from home, you never know what you'll want to play.

But despite all the good and as much as I love the device, I'll always be just that bit annoyed that Sony didn't make all they could have of it. Shame really.

Updating apps definitely doesn't move them back the internal storage for me, and with android 6.0 you can unify your internal and external storage if you really don't want to deal with moving apps & games (Though that update isn't out yet on the original Shield Tablet).

The Vita is a lot less powerful than you might think. Not only is the hardware pretty outdated by now, as we learned last year the CPU in it was underclocked way below even the lowest expectations, running at I believe it was either 333 MHz or 444MHz depending on whether developers disabled features like wifi or lowered the maximum screen brightness in their games. I guess the significantly lower resolution screen and lighter OS help, but it's not quite the technical wonder it was made out to be at launch.

I love my Vita and like the built-in controls. I don't play games on my phone/tablet much any more and carrying around a separate controller is pretty iffy. But I like all the good Indie games we are getting on Vita. I wish they'd port Rocket League to it, but I've mentioned that a couple times to Psyonix on twitter and they haven't responded, so probably not going to happen.

Anyone know when Axiom Verge could come out? I know the dev took time off because of his son's illness but that was the last news I've been able to find. It just seems dead in the water.

I am too much of a packrat. Still have my SNES. But, I salute you in your ability to unload an unused system. I cant bring myself to do it. Perhaps if my family were destitute - it would at least give me pause.

Thanks for the info. I cannot wait for this game. Crossing my fingers, toes and even eyes for a January surprise release but even February would be great!

Question about imports. I have thought about getting Phantasy Star Online 2. I remember playing PSO on my Dreamcast back in the day and loved it. Is this version anything like that? Also, since I can't speak or read Japanese would it be impossible for me to play? I've played plenty of Japanese games on various systems in the past. Mainly fighting games but I did manage to finish Arc the Lad on my PS1. I was hoping that between YouTube and the web I'd be able to figure things out. I've seen it selling for pretty cheap on eBay. Any info from anyone who had played it would be appreciated.

There are reviews on Amazon UK for this game where people have purchased. It seems the language is Jap only and you need to create a Sega ID to play but once created it works well on a western PSN account. It's a shame about the language as I would love to play this too.
