Just checked on my Vita, STFU is precisely 1142MB. Will give it a second chance someday but tested it on PS4 and didn't like it at all to be honest. Shovel Knight is a bazillion times better than Steamworld Dig IMO.
Ended up getting STFU just because of the sale price. Been watching video and reading reviews for Shovel Knight and Steamworld and I'm still torn. I do like that Shovel is not procedurally generated since I've been playing several roguelikes on the Vita lately. I'd love to hear if anyone else has opinions on the two or I'll probably go with Shovel...or flip a coin lol.
I am not good at either SD or SK, but my son rapidly picked up and put down SD and said it was a "good game". SK he played for hours and hours. The mechanics for the games are very different. Do you like battling or c0llecting more? Watching SK is more fun for me. I have played both, but just cant do things fast enough to really get a good feel. I start struggling even at the beginning and higher levels are a chore, so neither is particularly fun for me - both are work. Grim Fandango on the other hand, or Fez, or even Geometry Wars 3 are fine for me.
I'm leaning more towards SK just because of the randomness of the world of SD. I'm already playing like 4 roguelikes on vita and while I love them I kind of want something that isn't proceurally generated. Both games look really good. SD reminds me of Mines of Mars in a way. Is it similar?
Shovel Knight is a brilliant retro game, reminds me the best (S)NES games I played eons ago. Played tons of it on Wii U, not so much on Vita / PS4 yet but it is every bit as good in any system. Steamworld Dig I heavily disliked but TBH I don't even know why I bought it as I usually hate these mining games Minecraft being the worst of them.
I think SK is the better game but damn I was addicted to SD. Really fun game that can chew up time! I can't get enough of NT atm tho and it's a cross buy with ps4.
You mean N+? Great game although its gets brutally difficult. I am on countdown mode for Amplitude HD.
I was thinking he meant Nuclear Throne. Great game but tough. For me at least. I ended up getting SK and SD. Just couldn't choose lol.
Boy Content Manager is really slow. I would actually give that a pass if the screen turns OFF if its been on for longer than 5 minutes. If I do something else not related to CM, the screen dims and later turns off just fine. With CM, It just dims and stays dim until the transferring process is done. Hopefully I'm not doing long term damage to the screen. A firmware update to fix this would be great (if possible). I wonder if the slim model has the same issue? Right now since I have a 32 and a 64GB card, I wanna have both cards organized. I'm trying to free up space on my 64GB so theres only Vita games on it (Particularly Unplayed/Unfinished) games. and on the 32, all other PSP/PS1/PS Mobile games, Vita games I've "completed" and might wanna go back to and Cross Buy/Free PS+ games. I'm happy with this setup so far.
Nuclear Throne is fantastic, but I hope we get an update to fix the uber slowdown on Vita after killing Big Dog (2nd boss). It's crazy bad and can definitely cause deaths. Still the game is lots of fun and once you get past that it plays fine again. I can only get to him occasionally right now anyway. I think maybe only 4 times I've gotten to him, twice killed him. It is a tough game.
Amplitude was never coming out on Vita. It's out on PS4. PS3 will come later (not sure when). So at best you can remote play it on Vita. Of course they might port it to Vita later, but that was never part of the kickstarter for it.
I seeee. Well I started up Crimson Gem Saga on my Vita. Have a huge backlog of Vita games right now, have been ignoring it due to health reasons.(nothing too serious)
Even Sony said a while back that they won't be supporting Vita with AAA games and practically announced its death. I really wish they would just completely abandon it properly and open source the os, or "accidentally" leave a big easy backdoor for a hack. It'd be an awesome open source handheld. Just think what the community could do with it. I know some firmware versions have been cracked open, but not all of them yet.
Sony may have abandoned for AAA titles but the Vita is far from dead. It outsells most consoles within Japan and there are so many games coming from Japan at the moment with most of them getting localisation. I reckon there are a couple of years left at least yet. Personally it has opened my eyes up to games I would have never dreamed of playing, such as Danganronpa, Virtua's Reward, Steins Gate. Plus it helps that I love RPGs.
Sure, if you like JRPG's there's a few good releases to come and I'll admit when I was younger I did like them. But these days, not so much. A platform needs more than those and the occasional good indie release to be healthy and reach mass market appeal. I've just read through a list of games coming to the Vita in 2016 and with the exceptions of Axiom Verge which I've already got on PS4 and Mighty No 9, which I'd rather get on PS4/X1/Wii U there's nothing that appealed to me. My Vita is likely to continue gathering dust for most of the year. Which is a real shame. The last game I think I actually bought for it was Killzone and that was ages ago. I don't like it for remote play, the back touchpad just isn't a good replacement for the four buttons it's missing. The Vita had so much potential and Sony promised such a bright future for it before it launched. Proclaiming it to be the PS3 of handhelds. But it just never happened. They didn't market it well, they didn't support it enough with quality first party releases and because of that its a commercial duck. When your nearest competitor has outsold you by almost 5-1 and your also competing with phones and tablets for mobile gaming which obviously massively outsell it, it's a hard market. When the 3DS was floundering, did Nintendo give up? No, they threw money at it, released a stream of quality games, dropped the price and turned things around. But when the market was dropping out of Vita sales, what did Sony do? Support their fans and customers by pledging support and resources by releasing games from their many first party studios. No they publicly announced that they wouldn't be developing more games for it and that they wouldn't be allocating many resources to it from that point on. Stellar marketing there guys. In the highly unlikely event that Sony make another handheld, they sure as hell won't be getting me as a customer. Now obviously I'm just one person and it's a personal preference thing. But you don't have to look too far, or too hard, to find that I'm not alone in my disappointment with the Vita.
I agree that the marketing has been awful - especially in the West. I believe it is marketed well in Japan (you can tell in the fact that the PlayStation TV is called PS Vita TV in Japan). Price is a main negative. Especially memory cards. If the Memory Cards were the same price as an average Micro SD card, I believe sales would have been far higher - especially with the amount of content available digitally. Of course the High Street doesn't help with lack of awareness and an "occasional" title hiding amongst the PS4 titles and more availability still for PSP games in some stores. As you mentioned, Nintendo reduced their price and ramped the marketing with their strong brands, like Mario, and turned it around. Vita hasn't really got anything like this, even with a reduced price. It could have been Gravity Rush but not now the sequel is off to PS4 only. Still, a reduced price would have helped. Personally, I love my Vita for the games available and I have such a backlog that I won't run out for a long time to come but I do increasingly feel amongst the minority these days ......
