I am encountering this boss within 5 minutes of starting the game. I feel like i should have some opportunity to get something, but the boss is right there, just a couple of jumps from the start.
I think it's the first boss you're referring to: You can't really get many (if any) health / gun upgrades that early so no other way than learning the patterns and keep trying, there are good tips here (it's a trophy guide but with videos and strategies on the bosses). Despite being the first this was one of the hardest bosses for me because just like you I had very little health and a crappy unupgraded weapon.
Unlike most Vita gamers I didn't like Gravity Rush at all. It was a shitty game with terrible story / characters but good graphics IMO. I have zero interest in a GR sequel. That said, even then I think it was a really, REALLY low move by Sony making GR2 a PS4 exclusive. At the very least there should be a PSV version.
I think Gravity Rush was very much what the reviews gave it: A 7/10 (with a 7 being an "it's ok" score, not "above average"). I didn't hate it, but it didn't blow me away. So while I'm not too bothered by GR2 not being on the Vita (I honestly don't use mine much anymore anyway, I guess that's partly because the last major game (Resident Evil Revelations 2) is such a bad port and still hasn't been fixed...), it still really sucks to see Sony doing this. A year ago I might have said that if sony made another handheld I'd buy it, but I think my oppinion has changed.
Sony's asking for a beat down. Everyone, grab your torches and pitchforks! I enjoyed Gravity Rush, but it wasn't a GOTY for me. That said, I would have gladly bought the second one for the Vita. It was a good handheld game, but for a full home console release I think they need to improve a lot of things. I may or may not grab it eventually for PS4. Well, I see they did announce a new Daganronpa game for both PS4 and PSV. I'm a bit worried that this might mark the beginning of the end for the Daganronpa on the Vita. Hopefully they continue to support the Vita. Speaking of Daganronpa, I finished Another Episode the other day. I really enjoyed it for the most part. The new mechanics freshened things up quite a bit. I liked how they included small puzzles occasionally, even if most of them were very simple. The variety of bullets also made the gameplay interesting and allowed you to approach different encounters a bit tactically. This may sound strange, but the gameplay kind of reminded me of a newer styled Resident Evil. The levels also had variety which kept things interesting. One moment you would be in a really dark environment, the next you would be in an area where you would want to throw up due to all of the colors. The art style was also great and really made it feel like a Daganronpa game. The story was a bit of a departure from the other two games. No longer were you enclosed in a small area forced to kill fellow classmates. However, that doesn't mean there was a lack of despair in this game. If anything, the concept of this game was probably more despair-inducing than the other two games. Reading the notes scattered around the levels really show how twisted this game is. The dialogue was also decent, with cheesy and humorous moments. I really liked the banter between Komaru and Toko. Overall, I would definitely suggest Daganronpa fans to pick it up. I definitely cannot wait for the next game in the series!
It's weird that they aren't bring GR2 to Vita seeing how the Vita seems to do better in Japan than the PS4. I tried the Vita game a long time ago and didn't think much of it, but still. I'll probably go back and give it a second chance, though. I probably didn't give it enough time. Xeodrifter is hard at first, but it gets easier with practice/learning the patterns, and with searching for and collecting health and gun upgrades. I got 100% on PS4 last night to go along with 100% on Vita. 2nd play-through was much easier once you know the game. Really fun game. Definitely put everything into power and speed upgrades for bosses.
Nice story. Not sure what I want to start next. Probably will fire up Super Time Force Ultra (which can't possibly accidentally be STFU).
I liked Gravity Rush but in the end, I found it to be just average. Nothing really impressed me but I didn't mind doing the extracurricular activities for the platinum.. Far from the worst Vita game I've played. If GR2 gets some major improvements, I might be on board in spite of it being PS4 only Spoiler poor Vita .
I have thought about getting rid of the 3DS, but I replay games from time to time - hell, I still have an SNES that I still use... Thankfully I have a reasonably large home so I would not be considered a "hoarder".
Final Fantasy Adventure (Gameboy game) is being updated and brought to Vita. This is the Japanese trailer, but apparently it will be coming to the US: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7TqD87JfWE&feature=youtu.be Skip to 24 seconds to see the before/after videos. I'm told this is the first in what became the Mana series and plays a lot like Legend of Zelda with RPG stuff in it. I've never played any of them, but I'm a lot more interested in this than a traditional Final Fantasy game.
According to this, TGS 2015 almost saw twice as many games announced from last year for the vita: http://gearnuke.com/ps4-doubles-games-count-tgs-2015-followed-vita-yoy-100-ps4-games-showcased/ 62 compared to 34, how many get localised though is anyone's guess.
I have never had such a backlog as I have now. I have also never had such a wish list on new games as I have now. So many new games coming from Japan thanks to the vita doing so well over there.....after all, they are proud of things as they still call PlayStation tv the vita tv over there. The vita outsells many of the bigger consoles in Japan. Many games will never be localised but they have been including English subtitles in many games and thanks to the vita being region free we can still enjoy many games in Japan. Saying that I don't think God eater 2 will see English language or a western release which is a shame. Also so many sales each week which adds to my backlog. Dragon's Crown is my latest purchase this week. MGS Peacewalker next. Certainly a good time to be a vita owner.
It's a mobile port, but Heroes of Loot is fun and dirt cheap ($2.99 or less with PS+) and you've got physical controls. But the right stick - just forget about that. It's pretty weird trying to play it like a dual-stick shooter. You'll see what I mean. To shoot just press any face button. It shoots at the closest monster. Pretty entertaining and challenging game.
Agree 100%. I've played it a bunch on iOS but it's an excellent game on the vita. Very addicting too. I just wish it was a proper twin stick as the right stick behaves oddly as you said. Works great with auto aim though.
Help! I'm currently short on money (I managed to find the last Pipboy Edition of Fallout 4 that was available in my local game store) and I want to get some stuff for my Vita, however I really can't decide between Killzone Mercenary, Toukiden: Kiwami and a 16 Gb memory (I'm using ATM the 8 Gb memory that came bundled with my Vita), anyone's thoughts on this?
While I can't suggest which game you get, I would suggest thinking about saving up and just getting a 64 Gb memory card and then just not having to worry about memory management. They go for about $80 (at least on Amazon) and you will be able to put all your games on the card and not have to download / erase (at least that is what was happening with me with my 16).
