@Sumaz and teknikal: Unit 13 reminds you of SOCOM because it's made by their creators. I'm not gonna say that it's a must have game, but each mission definitely presents the gameplay type it advertises. The only missions that are run and gun are Direct Action missions. This game requires you to consistantly check your surroundings and mini-map. And the aiming is all about stealth and timing. Making the aiming through the sights an extra button press makes run-n-gun a little bit easier, and targeting enemies from a distance unobtrusive. It definitely has a non-existant storyline, but it accomplishes its mission of providing difficult missions to complete. This isn't a must have, but getting it used (even if the online code is used) is a worthwhile purchase.
Unit 13 is seriously hardcore. And there is no way to adjust the difficulty level. You are going to die over and over again. The blast radius of enemy grenades is inconceivably stupid. There are missions where your health does not regenerate and there are no checkpoints. You can only take a few bullets. You are extremely outnumbered in engagements for a game that makes engaging in direct firefights extremely difficult to do, and yet you have to do it anyway. Enemies spawn in the same spot and do the same thing every time you retry a mission, so you can memorize a mission layout and eventually overcome it, if you are the type of person who can tolerate that sort of trial and error frustration. I would not recommend this game to most gamers.
You realize your supposed to play this game by cover jumping and stealth like right? There's only sometimes you have to go all out.
I love Socom and Stealth games-this game would be stupid as a run and gun, and extremely short-picking my copy up today
Thanks for the info. Seems it's fun and my girlfriend will like it. Guess it's going to my future list of purchases.
What person did you pick for those type of missions, I know that has some bearing on how much dmg you can take and things of that nature. If you pick the sniper type stealth dude then yes you shouldnt go in guns blazing.
They announced a bunch of new games this morning in Tokyo. No FF Type-O HD or Monster Hunter, but they did reveal Persona 4: The Golden, Phantasy Star Online 2, Super Robot Wars and, um...this, from the creator of Mega Man and Dead Rising. Apparently there are also a bunch of other games revealed on that that first link's page, but seeing as I don't speak Japanese, I wouldn't have any idea of how to navigate around and find them.
Do you think theyll do a seperate announcement for Eu/Americans? Those games sound targeted at the Japanese gamers?
Well, that Game Heaven thing was completely underwhelming. I'm glad I didn't wake up at 6AM to watch the broadcast, which turned out to not be a live-stream after all. The only worthwhile new announcement (IMO) we got was PSO2, and while that may be big news to some people, a single fairly popular game isn't going to help much in system sales in Japan. To E3, I suppose?
They're going to have to do more than release games to get their sales up. They need to drop the price. Launch sales in the US were pretty bad according to this (admittedly rough) estimate: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=35857231#post35857231 And that with a pretty decent launch lineup.
Initially i thought wow, sony making a conference thing to announce new games for iher new console. Very nice ideia but the games that were announce were kinda dissapointing. And the sales are bombing a little also. I just got my vita but haven't tried it yet since i am at university, just hope it gets better with time and see cool games for it.
Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater arriving in Europe this summer as part of Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection for PS Vita http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/PS+Vita/Metal+Gear+Solid%3A+HD+Collection/news.asp?c=38706 Awesome
The economy hasn't helped, that's for sure. Bad time to release a $250+ handheld, although Nintendo did nearly twice as well with the 3DS launch going on the number somebody posted later in that thread (approx 400k sold in release week). Of course then their sales tanked. They dropped it to $180 and sales took off much better. I don't really understand why they don't sell consoles at a big loss. The real money is in the game sales, is it not? Why not practically give the consoles away so they have more people to buy games? But I'm no economist. Obviously. LOL.
Lol you are saying all this on a site where people buy Apple devices at twice the price of a Vita? and quite a lot of people upgrade each time...
Which I dont understand... I mean are people upgrading every year to play 99c games or just because the screen is a little brighter every year or what?
The iPhone, iPod touch and iPad aren't just for gaming, so I think it's easier to justify the cost for many. I guess in theory you could use the Vita for playing music, browsing the web and such, but I doubt many people would use it for that. It's a gaming handheld. Also many people sell their old iOS device in order to upgrade to a new one. The values hold pretty high. It doesn't make it free by any means, but does lower the cost substantially. I upgraded from an 3GS to a 4, though in that case I gave the 3GS to my wife. I didn't upgrade to a 4s. I'm going to hold off until the next one.
We could say that about the iPad-what's its sole purpose? On my Vita I watch films too,not fussed about music but it also has Internet browser if you wish to use it, yes it's mainly a gaming device as its sole purpose, not getting into a flaming war but people complaining the Vita is too much??? Just seems a funny thing to state lol
I didn't expect anything for the U.S. market to emerge from that conference, but it kind of stunk, even by Japanese standards. Ridge Racer got a 3.0 from IGN, and IGN likes Ridge Racer, in general. By far, the worst rating for any Vita game by far. What a sad, pathetic, abysmal embarrassment. The included tracks take 15 minutes to play. If free DLC doubles the original content, who really cares anyway. It's not saying much.
