The system alone is $199 so it makes sense to go for the bundle. I do want borderlands as I never got around to grabbing it last gen. The 16gb memory card is $33 at Amazon so in get that as well. So I'd be about $200 for borderlands, a 8GB memory card, a 16GB memory card, and a Vita slim system. What's your favorite vita game overall?

It isn't a looker and does feel a bit dated graphically, but if you squint a little it's fine. Because of the size of the open world map they've had to make some visual sacrifices I guess (whereas on iPad it's just a small section), it's not bad but a little dry and average, really boils down to the gameplay as it's basically Burnout Paradise. As for the Wipeout series, they take a little dedication to master but are rewarding once you do.

Out of games not mentioned I'd also recommend LBP for platformer and Frozen Synapse Prime for TBS.

I loved EDF 2017 and Hot Shots Golf. I have quite a few games on Vita and they are in my top five for sure. Logged plenty of hours in them. Graphics are a bit rubbish on EDF but its very fun. Tough to pick a definite favorite Vita game though. And having a tremendous backlog doesn't help either.

And I really hope Earth Defense Force V2 releases worldwide.

It would actually be interesting to hear everyone's top 5 games for Vita.

it would be! overall, are graphics not a strong suit for the vita? I mean I'm not expecting PS4 level visuals but at least as good or better than iOS.

    1. Guacamelee (most challenging platformer I played current gen albeit a few flaws).
    2. Zero Escape (though it doesn't come close to 999)
    3. Persona Golden (I love SMT to death especially DeSu and Strange Journey but this one is too easy and not too fond of replaying the whole game again for the ultimate boss + characters aren't as neat as previous games...except for Kanji <3)
    4. Knytt Underground (massive game and getting all trophies was a pain in the butt)
    5. Child Of Light (though dialogues could have been handled better, the battle system gets you hooked so much + a bit on the short side)

I expect these to change drastically next year since SO many games I desperately want are releasing on the thing ^^

Here is an article comparing vita to iPad - not a bad article, and pretty objective. I think the graphics are fine - some games look better than others, but my main criteria for a game is not how good it looks, but how good it plays and graphics are more icing on the cake.

Thanks for posting that review pluto6. I'm very excited and happy with the vita. Spelunky, LBP and Plants vs Zombies Zen table are a whole bunch of fun!

An emphatic YES! Definitely worth getting. It's a very capable handheld device and it definitely offers an experience you can't quite get from an iPhone or iPad.
If you have the means dive in. I was intrigued by the vita for some time. Did a lot of review searching and ask on this thread for advice which was very helpful and then I jumped in....glad I did

Pinball Arcade- Probably my #1 goto game on the go. I've bought more tables on PA than Zen Pinball. Otherwise ZP would maybe replace this game.

Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate- I'm sure the console versions are much better than the Vita but still very fun on the portable. I don't think I've played any other Vita game since I got it in September... Its that addictive.

Earth Defense Force 2017- I put myself through torture and somehow got the platinum for the game. Many hours wasted.

Persona 4 Golden- Not really much to say here. Just an outstanding game.

Hotshots Golf- I rarely watch golf on tv but gave this a shot and glad I did. Another tough platinum I managed to get. Great fun, may boot it from time to time. Characters are awesome in their own way.

Cool! Without getting too personal, roughly how much money would you say I'd cost to get the system at $169 and good amount of games plus a memory card? Like how much should I have set aside for it?

Well#! It depends on what you mean by a good amount? Many of the more experienced people here could and kind of have answered that question. If you feel you'll need much memory for many games than 32g or 64g would be for you. If you're wanting to get many games...well that's going to cost you quite a bit and no one can give you an amount to spend. It your choice. But a word of advice though is make the commitment to buy the device first and get a few of the games you really want. And go with that and enjoy what you have. Don't over burden yourself right away with so many games that will cost $ and your time to devote to each will be limited.

Sounds good. I would thing that sometime again this holiday season one of the memory cards will go on sale, or perhaps you could get a good deal on a used one - they really don't go bad as far as I know. The 16 Gb were on sale around Black Friday and Cyber Monday for $20 and the 32 I think was on sale somewhere for $40. If you have the money, the 64 Gb sell for around $80 - 100 (and so on a Gb/$ comparison are about the same as a 16 Gb on sale).

Accessories - you have not asked, and no one has mentioned - I would get a screen saver (I got one made by Sony) as the screen is not like the iDevices and they don't use gorilla glass. Cases are obviously optional depending on what you do travel wise. Those are the only 2 things that I got (other than larger memory card)

http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Vita-Protective-Film-Two-Pack/dp/B006PP404Q (screen saver that I got link) I have the OLED Vita

Here is link for HORI (generally excellent products) protector for the new slim Vita
    http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Screen-Protective-Filter-PlayStation-Vita/dp/B00J00BLRM/

Just to be clear on the memory cards - you won't NEED to get a new one (the 8 Gb) will be fine for a while - but at some point you will probably be happier getting additional memory card or 2 just so you don't have to d/l then delete, then d/l then delete etc.. I am sure you get the point.
