Is it worth getting a vita if I have a PS4? Also, is it so late in this console's life that it would make more sense to wait for the next gen?
They're a good pair providing you can have your PS4 wired to the Internet, remote play is pretty flawless providing everything your end is sorted. Not all games are ideal played remotely due to UI size and sticks don't feel as good, but generally it can be good for a quick blat if you have a wife/girlfriend who likes lots of reality, soaps or cooking shows but it won't replace the experience. As for titles, there's a few good games that I'm glad I've had the option to play, crossbuy is quite good too when available as some games just play better on a handheld (arcade shooters, platformers, most Indy stuff). I would like to see a few more bigger titles exclusive to the platform but even with those looking quite sparse for the future, it still is my handheld/mobile platform of choice (taking into consideration I don't own a 3DS and haven't really experienced one properly). I don't think it's too late in its cycle to purchase one, and if you have a PS4 it can be a nice addition, but I don't think it's a must have. If remote play is your thing there's also other options with the Xperia 3 (and 2 I think) and Playstation TV. If it's the games you're after check out the titles available and see if they're your thing. I can't say I've had any regrets getting mine and it gets a lot of use, but it's not going to be for everyone.
Thanks for the in-depth response. The remote play is a big part of why I'm considering it and I'd never consider an android/windows phone (just my opinion, not trying to start a riot) so the vita is the only way of doing that. The games seem pretty good, too, with the likes of uncharted golden abyss (I think that's what it was called), tearaway, borderlands 2, metrico, and a bunch of good JRPGs, a genre I've never gotten to play. I'm already a PS+ subscriber as well so it's be nice to get 48 free games a year rather than 24 (2 per month per system). So who knows? Maybe I'll get myself a nice Christmas treat.
Has anyone tried that new dungoen crawler on PSN yet? Thinking about picking it up... because I have a problem...
Nothing deep in there, I'm afraid, just the usual action RPG fare: hack and slash a bunch of enemies, level up, toy with some new skills, repeat ad nauseam. Things I like most about the game is that the gameplay is addictive (yet very repetitive, but as I said that's pretty much a given in an action RPG), lightning fast, and the soundtrack is... OMG, the soundtrack is amazing!
I'm glad to say it has picked up a bit. It is more enjoyable when you get to more open areas. I also like how you can switch between party members. The challenge still seems a bit erratic. A lot of enemies are easy to kill, but then you come across some that can one shot you and take hundreds of hits to kill. I also died by falling through the map, which wasn't too fun considering I lost a decent amount of progress because of it. You can save wherever you want though, which is nice.

Awesome, thanks for the list and for the freebie! I'm glad Bastion is coming, that was a great game! While the Vita isn't doomed, we are! EA giving away a free game? The end is nigh! Repent you heretics, we're all going to die!
I wonder if Bastion coming means there's hope for Transistor too, that would be really suited for handheld given that it's basically Bastion in new clothes with some expanded concepts and gameplay elements. I guess once they port the engine it'll be a given. And agree re EA, my initial thoughts were "what's the catch...", but all seems to be well intentioned in Mega Corp land.
Turns out Darkest Dungeon is actually coming to the Vita as well (This wasn't specificly said in the conference, which is why I'm adding it to the list on the last page now)
Bastion Shovel Knight Day of The Tentacle (!!!) That's some serious and unexpected amount of awesomeness! Now dear Sony just give me the original X-Com and I promise to pretend not to have noticed that there are ZERO Vita only titles, all of them are ports / crossPS4 games.
Anyone seen or played the upgraded PC version of FF 7? The article in IGN says "Much like the PC edition released a few years ago, this version of Final Fantasy VII will include upscaled graphics for the new hardware. It is important to note this is not an HD remake or version of the game." I wonder what people thought about it? Guess I will go looking at GameFaqs or something and see. Back already - well I don't know what to make of the PC version - it came out in 1998 - hardly HD graphics in 1998... So, I guess we will have to see what we see...
Severed is exclusive to Vita at this stage AFAIK, all combat done via the touch screen. Good write up on IGN.
I was def not expecting Day of The Tentacle. Fandango is already a dream come true, but Tentacle is just icing on the cake. If these sell well I want to believe they'll take a chance on Maniac Mansion next. Darkest Dungeon is pretty interesting but I'll wait to see how it plays out. Other than that, a lot of year-late ports like Banner Saga or Bastion. People will only buy them for the trophies I think. Overall a step in the right direction, but I won't be too quick to scream "Vita is saved"
Have I ever told you all that I lovvvvvve you? Come, bitter conduct, come, unsavoury guide. Thou desperate pilot, now at once run on The dashing rocks thy seasick, weary bark. Heres to my love! Please forgive me, it's been too long since I've made a random post...
I got it free for the PS4 and I am not sure if it was cross-buy free, or just free for the Vita, but I got The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth which has been getting some good reviews. Anyways, I figured I would try it out and it is sort of RPG-ish twin stick shooter Or perhaps some reminders of Zelda. Anways, certainly if you can get it for free it's worth a look. Anyone getting or excited about Suikoden 1 and 2 coming to the Vita as a port? Man - I spent some serious hours with both those titles... Never got all 108 stars but I sunk some good times in. I guess i will see what the price point is..
