Well this just in: Faster Than Light will NOT be ported to Vita http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/PS+Vita/FTL%3A+Faster+Than+Light/news.asp?c=60197 The screen is too small apparently. For once I agree with the dev for his decision. This is a game that's meant to be played on a large screen.
I can't say I'm surprised, but I think with some larger changes to the UI they could get the game to work on a 5" screen. It probably wouldn't be as good, but I could see it working. Example: Instead of having the power management buttons on screen at all times they could make it like many of today's smartphone apps and have you swipe in a power management menu with buttons from the left side of the screen and pause the game while you manage your power. Here's what I mean to how many apps do menus today: (left image, I couldn't find a picture on google that showed only the side menu)
Graphics are not that good (but not bad either), sound quality is abysmal, story is terrible, main character is pitiful, gameplay is average provided you like this kind of game. If you're a huge fan of the Assassin's Creed franchise then by all means go for it, otherwise don't waste your money, there are way better Vita games begging to be played.
Yeah a straight port wouldn't work well, but if they took a similar approach and did a proper redesign as it sounds like the guys doing Frozen Synapse for Vita are, it wouldn't be impossible, they'd just need to rethink their approach.
Thanks for that, pretty much settles it for me and saves me a bit of money. Doesn't seem to be many saving graces for it.
No need for a pic; I totally get what you mean. Seems like a nifty solution but maybe not good enough for them to jump on the Vita? Or the sliding mechanic becomes too cumbersome to use and not practical at all?. Since Sony is not investing in AAA games, how about they invest in rolling in the big indie devs from Steam. Games like Antichamber, The Bridge, The Cave, Braid, Deponia and such don't have exclusive deals; so all Sony has to do is invest in bringing these games which are fairly popular and have already proved they can sell.
Do you have plus? If so it's 5 dollars. Not bad for a vita game, seeing as they don't get great sales often. It hasn't finished downloading for me yet, so I can't comment on the game itself.
Here is gameplay of bl2 on vita after patch I played about an hour and I see no difference! http://youtu.be/BaO8N-dk-G8
So with Z-Run Vita tax reaches 900%: a $.99 (at most) phone game being sold by $8.99. EDIT: Wait, there's also the $2.99 (App Store) Farming Simulator 14, a real bargain at $29.99 on Vita I can understand and agree with higher prices as the pricing standards in Apple / Google App Stores are unfair and have spawned monstrosities such as the F2P / Freemium games... but this is getting ridiculous.
Are they straight ports or are they remade for vita with expanded content? One thing to remember, ios has a huge install base who will usually buy games for a few bucks. However, they make up for this with the big install base and usually include the infamous IAPs. Vita on the other hand has a way smaller instal base and hopefully they don't no iap, which is probably why they charge more upfront. This is all an assumption by the way, because I haven't played those games on either systems.
