Well according to a accidental tweet that was later revoked, Borderlands 2 is coming out March 18th. It would be nice if we could finally get a screenshot...
Was looking forward to OlliOlli. I rarely buy games on release these days but I love the looks and the devs seem friendly. That review makes me doubt though, with the "fairly steep learning curve and a frustratingly high difficultly level even after that". Still, I'll probably get it. Eurogamer's review was so good that I just hope I'll magically become a much better gamer or somehow am good at this even though I suck at all other games... And then go win the skateboard
I bought OlliOlli. I'll let you know what I think of it once I get a chance to download it and try it. Hopefully tonight. It's also part of the PS Vita Play promotion (at least in US). There's 4 games: OlliOlli, DragonBall Z: Battle of Z, Dustforce and TxK, one released per week starting with OlliOlli this week. If you by 2 you get $3 back, buy 3 get $6 back, buy all 4 get $10 back. Plus each title has a 20% discount in its release week if you have PS+. I'm definitely also getting TxK and may get Dustforce too. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/01/20/ps-vita-play-4-new-vita-games-ps-plus-discounts-and-more/
Bought OlliOlli tonight. It feels like such a simple game, but it's actually pretty deep. Timing is everything and it really does feel great to pull off some chain combo's. I love that the game has goals for each stage ala THPS, but somewhat wish there was just a free run mode, somewhat like an endless runner where you could just keep going until you wiped out. Definitely picking up TxK and will have to check out the other games in the Play Promotion.
OlliOlli is great. I stayed up WAY too late last night playing it. Suddenly it was 2 AM. Whoops. So, yeah, buy it, but keep an eye on the clock! The controls are very good. It is a challenging game (at least for me), but the kind of game that makes you try "just one more time". Really fun. I do feel it is a bit like an endless runner. It has that kind of feel to it, but more challenging and fun.
+1 for OlliOlli goodness. The controls are excellent, and I particularly like completing the challenges which help you to improve. Very impressed.
Never knew we had a vita thread. Wondering if I can get the battle fronts on a vita? Like star wars battlefront elite squadron.
OlliOlli is the most addicting game I've played on any platform since Spelunky but the lack of leader boards, especially friend leader boards, is perplexing and disappointing. I have heard that they were surprised at the demand for leader boards and are going to look into adding them with a patch, but that sort of boggles the mind. How can you make a high score type game and NOT have leader boards in from the start? Don't let that discourage your purchase, though, because the game is super fun anyway.
So I got OlliOlli and will never listen to a review about difficulty again. Games that reviewers say are super tough (see also Spunk&Moxie) seem totally fine to me, whereas I sometimes have some trouble with ultra casual games. OlliOlli is great! The difficulty is perfect. It's not too hard to finish the levels (but not too easy either), but it's tricky to get all the goals and a high score. I had a longish train journey today and brought my iPad and Vita, but all I did was play OlliOlli. It's surprising how addicting it is, and how it doesn't become frustrating. I like that you can unlock goals even if you fail a level. I think we are so used to iOS with Game Center. I am surprised about the same thing with XBLA games that often only have rudimentary leaderboards. I do totally agree with you that it's strange. I don't miss a friends leaderboard, but I would like to see how many players there are. Am I 500 out of 1000 or out of 10.000? It's also fun to see the top 25 or so, not just the top score.
It's strange that it isn't there because they said multiple times on the PS blog how the leaderboards were the most fun part of the game and it seems many people agree. I read that they had to cut it out because of budget reasons. It is strange that Sony apparently doesn't offer an easy to use SDK to implement this stuff. This kind of thing does make me appreciate iOS gaming too though. I was thinking that it would be fun to watch replays of peoples levels, and then remembered that MOS Speedrun has that. It has perfect leaderboards, and video recording, and only costs $2. It seems I have jinxed it when I said the game was not too hard, because I now am stuck at Base-5 I'll get there though. In the meantime getting the other goals, daily grind and spots mode are a lot of fun. Speaking of goals, how do you get the first two spray cans in level 1-4?
Urban 4, right? Just before you reach the first 2 spray cans there is a ledge, jump off the edge of that and you'll land where the spray cans are (don't grind on the rail above the cans).
Spelunky has a proper leader board. Selectable Global/My Score/Friends. No reason OlliOlli can't have it too. The only issue I can see is that OlliOlli would have a leader board for every level. Maybe there is a limit on the number of leader boards for a game?
Thanks, did it! Somehow just reading that that was indeed the way to go apparently helped. They wrote somewhere that the reasons were budgetary, not technical. I don't have any friends, so don't care about a friends leaderboard (though I totally see how it would be fun for others). Even if I did have friends, I'm sure I would be last on every level, so, yeah I wonder how big the proportion of Vita gamers with many friends is. I would like a star/medal system, like in Rayman Legends challenges (and most score based games with levels). Now my score is just a score and I really have no idea how good or bad it is. I'm still finding the daily grind a lot of fun. The one-try-only thing is brilliant. That's how it works in real life too. You can be great, but you make one mistake at the contest/tournament/championships, and it's still over. At least here you can try again tomorrow, instead of in 4 years like with the Olympics.
For me, not having a leader board of any kind makes the Daily Grind not much fun. I play a level and the next day my score is just gone. *poof*. In Spelunky it keeps a record of the last 5 or 6 days worth. They really need to add a least that sort of thing for the Daily Grind, even if the individual levels don't get anything. Without that I doubt participation in the Daily Grind is going to be high. For the most part only the elites, who have a chance of being number 1, will play.
I agree, that's a shame too. Rayman Legends also shows a graph of my medals over time and that's fun to see. But I still like the Daily Grind.
Just went for a daily grind run, messed up on the first jump and got a score of 0. The next 24 hours will seem like 4 years. I want Spelunky. Would like to fully finish OlliOlli first though before I start another Vita game.
Spelunky is amazing. Easily my most played Vita game. I have slowed down on it lately - now mostly just doing the Daily Challenge, though usually I end up doing some regular runs too. Such a tough, but fun and addicting game. I'm playing a lot of Pinball Arcade again. Buggy game at times, a bit clunky (in the interface), but still lots of fun and the best thing going for sure for pinball fans, short of playing the real things of course. I hope they get us the last couple season 2 packs soon and start up season 3. Don't know what the issue is there.
