They've finally added that one feature we've always been asking for guys! Finally... we can take panoramas with one of the worst cameras ever! (Funnily enough it actually works quite well, it's just that the quality is awful.)
Something I'm curious about with the new Vita, is are its cameras better? They are noticeably larger. Neither Sony nor anyone has said anything about it though, and if I took a guess, I'd say the answer is probably no. Something funny about the Vita camera, is that it is capable of taking shots higher than it is allowed. For whatever reason, the Vita OS has a cap on it. Just tried the panorama app, and wow, it works better than pretty much every other panorama function I've used.
Just tried it and it's almost exactly the same as my Canon camera in execution (although that uses pc software to do the actual stitching later), shame the vitas cameras not really up to the job because it does work really well and the way you can view the pictures by rotating works really good also.
Yep, as long as you don't completely mess taking each picture up and aren't too close to any larger objects the results (camera quality aside) are actually pretty great. I'd recommend switching from the default 360° panorama setting though. The main problem seems to be that the brightness of the different pictures can vary and because of that it can look a bit weird in the end. Still, the stitching is great, it's super easy to use and it allows you to take much bigger pictures, so overall this is a surprisingly good addition IMO.
wow I actually didn't realise it had those extra panoramic modes that's actually really cool my first results aren't stellar but it's likely because I tried it in a small room I'll have to try it outside at some point.
The yellowishness of the OLED was noticeable to me after having played the PS3 version of Spelunky and then going to Vita. The walls look much more yellow on the Vita than Spelunky on my LCD TV. I think my LCD TV looks better. Though, sure, black is more black on the OLED. Of course the LCD on the new Vita could be crappy. I have never seen one in person. I will have to try this panorama thing, but with such a terrible camera I can't exactly get excited about it. Plus it's not like I'd ever use it except as a test. I know some say they can fit a Vita in their pocket, but I can't and wouldn't even if I could. LOL. So it's never going to be there when I want to take a picture.
Being able to take slightly larger pictures with a wider angle (there's a mode for that!) is probably my favourite feature of the panoramic camera. Yes, the camera still sucks, but at least with the panorama mode you can get a good idea of the surroundings when the picture was taken rather than having just one flat, low res and washed out picture from the regular camera mode. Here's a panorama I took near my school today (Consists of 9 different pictures): I think that's a pretty good example of how good the stitching can be.
What annoys me about the Vita camera is it's 1.3 megapixels, but it's capped at 0.3 megapixels. Why? 1.3 megapixels isn't amazing, but it's better than 0.3.
It's 640x480 according to the official specs. I take it that is .3 MP. OK for a webcam, especially on the small screen, not so good for photos.
Funny, I don't think I ever launched the camera app. So many gadgets with cameras I will never use, I don't even bother anymore.
The technical specs they released prior to the launch of the Vita said that it was a 1.3 megapixel camera.
Just checked my messages through my ps3 and I got my $30 psn cash Friday (the $10 cash every 50 you spent). Shame you can't check messages if you only have a Vita.
Anyone here still have a PSP 1? i have 3 stashed away. I have two PSP-2000's & a PSP-3000. All CFW.. one is 5.00 M33-6 DaX But since having iPhone, iv'e drifted away from the PSP scene... sad times
I just got a Vita and it is amazing. I am blown away by the quality of the screen, and I got Rayman Origins as a first game, and it is wonderful, way better than I expected. It has been a long time since I really loved a video game. I checked out the Vita store and I notice that quite a few games that I am interested in are not in the Dutch Vita store (Quell Memento, Nikoli puzzle games, Parappa the Rapper and DJMax Technika tune for example). Would it makes sense to make a US account or is that more trouble than it's worth? Maybe there are people here with Japanese accounts? I'm not really looking forward to lots of account switching (I hear that you need a separate memory card for that?), on iOS I found it mostly not worth it, but if it is common that games are published in the US and not in Europe, I may want to switch to a US account entirely.
I still have a psp 1000 because of a pretty big umd library and phantasy star doesn't work with the vita.
Noticed this supposed Vita bug on IGN. I did end up logged out of PSN yesterday but I put it down to having a router die on me and replacing it. Haven't done the fix yet personally.
