The LCD on my iPhone 4 looks fantastic. I honestly can't say that the Vita's OLED screen looks any better, but I haven't done side-by-side comparisons. Still, in the end most people probably aren't going to notice any difference if they use a good quality LCD screen. If it allows them to sell the Vita for less, in the end that benefits everybody. Plus it has better battery life, is lighter, etc. I'm not going to "upgrade", but what they need is new owners, not upgrades.

One thing is they did not announce a 3G model. That isn't a big shock. Does anyone use the 3G even if they have it?

LCD screens do have the advantage of lasting A LOT longer and not having burn-in, so the change does have some guaranteed improvements...

I don't believe that burn-in thing it's pure fud, I've been using oled since cowon started using them on their mp3 players and I've super amoled on my phone which has seen literally pure months of kairosoft gameplay.

Never seen any trace of burn in I've only read about it happening to the Galaxy Nexus and nothing else, my guess is Samsung gave google their worst screens or something.

My opinion OLED technology is the future and LCD looks positively washed out in comparison.

But my iPhone 4 screen does not look washed out. Colors are vibrant on it. Maybe some crappy LCD screen will look washed out, but not a decent LCD.

If by going with LCD they lower the cost, weight and increase battery life, that seems like a good tradeoff. Maybe OLED is the future, but what the Vita needs is sales in the present.

It might be a good thing if it brings more Vita games/marketshare but I'll personally be very disappointed if I ever have the need to switch I generally do find LCDS washed out now.

It's a personal thing I admit but I honestly can't wait until I can ditch LCD monitors and TV's I just find OLED's more pleasing with the Vibrant colours and pure blacks.

I'm not sure about the battery life claims either I do know OLED needs no power at all to display black while LCD does, I think their about equal in truth but I'd still give the edge to OLED with my own personal experience.

Well, somehow they reduced the thickness and weight and yet have an extra hour of battery life, but maybe they did that in spite of going with LCD, as opposed to because of. I'm not sure.

R.I.P OLED. I think I'll rather send my OLED Vita to SONY than buy an newer LCD model, if it were to break.

Vita TV sounds great actually. Might nab one.

64GB card was announced as well. 32GB seems perfect for me so won't upgrade right away.

And BTW, was Football Manager Classic 2014 the "super mega ultra secret omg 3rd party game" that Shahid was talking about a few months ago? Edit: Nevermind

Disappointing they took out the oled. Will hold onto mine for as long as possible I guess.

Also I woundn't expect iphone type quality screen. Vita will be like $150 (??) the iphone is like $600. I expect a 3ds type screen, but with a higher res (obviously).

Vita tv looks interresting. Couldn't play a lot of games on it though, due to lack of touch screen (no rayman legends... ahhh!). At least until it supports dualshock 4 (or does it already?)

Have you ever seen a Nexus 7? Those tablets have beautiful LCD screens and cost about the same ammount as a Vita. Just because the iPhone costs "like 600$" doesn't mean its hardware is worth the price.

The biggest differences between LCD and OLED, is OLED reproduces blacks far better than LCD can and displays colors much more vibrantly (though there are some LCDs that do it fairly well), and OLED has a much higher refresh rate than LCD (but it is not really noticeable unless you record OLED and LCD screens at the same time with a slow motion camera).

Honestly, I'll wait to judge the new screen until I actually see it.

DS4 is not going to give you a touchscreen for the Vita TV. The DS4 has a touchpad. That is quite different from a touchscreen. It is like the reach touch panel, not the touchscreen.

Vita TV is a confusing product. I think they should have left out the Vita part entirely and just made it a Netflix box and such, and for PS4 remote play. Then it would be a lot less confusing.

The screen on my Shield looks fantastic, comparable to the Vita's OLED (to my untrained eyes). If the Vita had the same quality screen, I would be perfectly happy to be honest.

My bigger concern is the response time on these new screens. I remember the PSP 2000 had horrible ghosting.

I don't plan on giving up my OLED version, I love that thing too much. We'll probably see side by side comparisons at some point, so I'll reserve judgement until that time.

But on a bigger note - Killzone Mercenaries if finally out today in the US! So excited to get this today, going to make a lunch run to snag it. I feel bad though, I was really getting into Rayman Legends.

This is 2013, there's no reason to be worried about response time and ghosting on an LCD screen.

And the better battery life is definitely appealing, as is it being lighter. I'm less sure about the thinner part - that might make it even less comfortable to hold, although I pretty much need to use a grip with my "fat" Vita, so I'd just use one with the new Vita too. But I'm not going to upgrade. Once this thing dies I'll pick up a new one, though. I won't fret over the LCD. The LCD on my iPhone 4 has black blacks and vibrant colors.

  16. The two Vita TV SKUs are sold out in Amazon Japan.

Did they get many to sell? What happens after the initial sellout? I don't know. I think this is a weird product and doubt it's going to sell well, at least after the initial geeks who have to have the latest gadget get their hands on one. But we shall see.

Killzone: Mercenary is great! Make sure you don't miss it.

Same exact technology, just without a display underneath. Not sure of the source, but supposedly, you'll be able to map touch controls to the DS4 for Vita games (touch screen and rear touch pad). You could theoretically make it so that the touchpad is 1:1 with the touchscreen, so if there's a touch icon in the corner of the screen, you could just touch the corner of the touchpad.

It's the direct interaction that makes a touchscreen what it is. Not to mention that any game that requires fast touch interaction is going to be basically impossible. Some games would work OK, though. Well, certainly things like Machinarium which is just emulating a touchpad anyway, but the touch stuff in Uncharted? I thought that was pretty tedious even with a touchscreen. Having to do that stuff with a touchpad? Wow.

This was pointed out on another forum by someone else: if the VitaTV retains the crazy account switching situation (utterly impractical - must have separate memory card and must reset to factory defaults when you switch) then VitaTV is doomed. Who wants a game console with only one account and one save per game?
