Interesting that they would do maintenance on a Tuesday... that's seriously stupid. Lol :p

    No offense, of course!

Ironically, I was actually looking at the back-catalog more than the new releases... PS2 Classics has a lot of games I really want to get again:

    Manhunt
    Bloodrayne
    Katamari Damacy
    Fatal Frame
    The Warriors
    Shinobi

When did the PS2 Classics section get so damn cool? :D

  4. As far as I'm concerned, they can do maintenance every Tuesday if that means getting the store update every Monday night.

It's just our good ol' Sony, what other mega corporation would do something like that?

Muramasa Rebirth is the most beautiful game on Vita. Videos and pictures don't do it any justice, trust me.

Uh... I'm really sorry, everyone. I totally forgot this was the Vita thread :(

Haha, true. They really need to get on a schedule. It comes off as lazy and immature for a company to have an Online Store update every week, but always at different times of the day, sometimes reaching into the next day in fact. :(

    Lol

I was interested in picking that up since I saw those screenshots! It does look gorgeous <3

I was going to suggest the 3DS because I thought I just read Spelunky was on it in some territories... but I just realized the game is called SpelunkER and it's supposedly the one that inspired Spelunky. :(

    http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/06/27/spelunker-arrives-on-wii-u-3ds

Anyways, I have played my 3DS more consistently and had a lot more fun with it versus the Vita. I seem to go through phases of playing heavily and playing not at all like the 3DS, but the phases are much stronger and longer on the Vita :( I think now it's coming down to the fact that I just don't enjoy the kinds of games that are coming out on it, save for Gravity Rush, Golden Abyss, Escape Plan, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, and a couple others.

And those all came out basically in the first 6 months of the console's release, if I'm not wrong. Now I just have a Vita and... it just sits there. Not since LittleBigPlanet (oh yeah, add that to the above list) at Christmas last year have I played the Vita :(

Now if I fire it up, it will be to try out all these PlayStation Plus freebies and PlayStation Classics... so now it's really no better than a portable PS3. Ironically, that's what I wanted all along with the Vita, but the developer support is just not as strong as I was hoping. It still has a long way to go. Obviously Killzone will make me fire it up again, though!

Overall, however, I think the 3DS is the better system. What it lacks in technical badassery, it makes up for with its unbelievable library of just pure fun. I have over 30 3DS games, and I love every single one of them to death. The 3DS has a decidedly much more carefree and fun kind of lineup and experience than the Vita.

It's only my opinion, though. For every Last of Us kind of serious game, I prefer about 10 other happier and fun games like what Nintendo offers. You might not be that way, though :)

To me 3ds games are not even that good. Only game made me that was fun and worth it was resident evil and monster hunter... I am sick of old Zelda ports or recycled Mario shits.... Even tho I have pokemon and that's all I play now. Can't wait for x and y

And Nintendo seisouly should come up with new screen for 3ds xl because that screen is just a garbage. It's so pixelated. It's at the point that it makes games so ugly. Perfect example would be monster hunter

As I stated, my opinion is not the be-all/end-all. I know there are people that don't enjoy Nintendo games. I am wondering what you are talking about with Zelda ports, though? Ocarina 3D and then the Virtual Console releases? I see those as a way to have fun with Zelda until the first original one releases, which will be later this year.

As for recycled Mario stuffs, okay. It's a case of "if it isn't broken, don't fix it." The formula for Mario is perfect and nothing needs to change. It's the same fun platforming experience as it always has been. And if you cared to look deeper into the individual Mario games, you would realize that apart from New Super Mario Bros. DS and New Super Mario Bros. Wii, the games are all very very different from each other.

Perhaps Mario 3D World for the Wii U is another recycle coming, but they still have a couple fun new gameplay elements to set it apart from the previous ones. New Super Mario Bros. is actually a fascinating series in the sense that all the games follow the same basic formula, but they all have unique qualities and fun things that set them apart from each other. You can say this about most games out there (not just Mario) in the same genre, but I think the New Super Mario Bros. series is the best place to practice finding differences.

When it all boils down to a soup, though, the fact is that I see the differences in the Mario games because I cared enough to play them a ton. I see differences in sidescrolling and vertical-scrolling shoot-'em-ups because I play them a ton, as well. Insert any game series or similar games in here that I have played a ton of, and I can easily find the differences.

But with stuff like Madden? Call of Duty? Forza Motorsport? Gran Turismo? Most mascot platformers from the SNES/Genesis era... You couldn't get me to see the differences if you shoved them in front of me for a decade, simply because I never play them. Differences in graphics are easy, as always (who can't discern those?), but gameplay elements, level design... it all blurs into the same damn picture with regards to those games.

What I'm saying is that just because you think a series of games has no improvements, you haven't played it enough to be able to see that. Then you could argue that if you have to play a series so heavily to find the differences, that it is proof of a failed entry... to which I respond that if you see it that way and the series is successful with people and reviewers, you are missing the idea that for some people, the design and gameplay of that series has already reached perfection and there's no need to fix it up at all.

Oh, and now I have to ask what recycled Mario games are on the 3DS? The virtual console stuff, New Super Mario Bros. 2, and Super Mario 3D Land? :\

No they shouldn't, because that could cause major problems with game development. They would have to ask developers to make two graphical versions of their games, and no one has time for that in Nintendo World. Just because it is a better screen doesn't mean the games will look better. Look at the pre-Retina iOS games versus their Retina-enabled counterparts.

And I'm sorry the graphics don't suit your fancy. I think all the games look just fine, and I prefer the depth of 3D on the XL. It's also way more comfortable to hold. The games look equally pixelated on both versions, but you have to look just a millimeter closer on the regular model.

Graphics shouldn't matter. Gameplay is always king. You could have a game with the most beautiful graphics, but it will fall flat in every other possible area. That's not a good game. That's a terrible game that has some allegedly high production values. Look at stuff from the Atari 2600 era... games had graphics that were so basic and simple. It was all about the gameplay. If you think of the gaming medium as a body that has been developing over time, Atari 2600 games are the basic skeletal structure and necessary organs. Every other console that pushes games forward in their respective eras should be considered the clothes. The clothes get heavier and heavier and heavier, until finally we are looking at a person so buried under unnecessary clothes that we forget there is a heart beating underneath all that.

The clothes are graphical improvements. The more and more we add quality to graphics, the more people will forget what gaming should be all about: gameplay.

After all, it's not called graphixing, is it? Didn't think so ;)

Well, I have both but if pressed to choose only one I'd pick the Vita any day, the 3DS is too much kiddies-casual oriented for my taste. Vita has a lot of terrific games (NFS Most Wanted, Soul Sacrifice, Persona 4, Guacamelee, Stranger's Wrath, Muramasa Rebirth, Hotline Miami, Sine Mora, ...) that usually receive lower-rated reviews than vastly inferior 3DS games (which are reviewed as mobile games, while the Vita ones as PS3 ones which is unfair IMO).

The major problem with the Vita right now is the lack of system seller games, other than that is a much better device compared to the 3DS(XL).

Well no point of replying that guy since he is clearly a total defended about all Nintendo stuffs... Mario is no different than call of duty or other sports games. Same mechanic and new stage and maps with different guns. It gets boring.
Nintendo to me is at the point most of their franchise are so old and boring and Mario is on the top of that lvl...
And 3ds xl screen is not bad? If you out both 3ds and xl and play 3ds games, you should be able to tell how ugly and pixelated it is.
And thanks to all these loyal Nintendo fans, that's why they never get better.

Just for the record, I would much rather play Animal Crossing then pretty much any of the AAA Vita titles. Animal Crossing is crack. And I love a good Mario game, etc. I'm not turned off by the so-called "Kiddie" aspect of 3DS games AT ALL. Indeed I love that they aren't caught up in the everything must be so-called "Mature" rage. The draw for me with Vita is the Indie stuff, mostly AND that we already have a regular 3DS. I would like my own, and an XL ideally, but we do have one.

There is the upcoming TxK in particular. And Spelunky. Etc, etc. Plus I have PS+ which gives me some "free" games. So those are all draws to the platform. I wish it wasn't $250 + money for a ridiculously overpriced memory card.

It's a discussion thread and I am discussing... It's still on-topic. I don't hate the Vita by any means. I think it's a great system and if it would just get the support it deserves it could really push handheld gaming forward even more. I was just saying that between the Vita and the 3DS, the 3DS is my favorite because I find the games to be much more fun. I then defended my viewpoint as such.

I'm no naysayer on the Vita. I understand I am in the minority of loving the Nintendo games more because their carefree and fun nature as opposed to the more serious stuff on the Vita. As is the case with the 3DS having some serious stuff here and there, the Vita also has some fun and silly stuff here and there too. I'm not blind. I'm just saying between the two consoles, I prefer the 3DS in terms of games.

    I'm still keeping it well on-topic! :D

...all right I might have gone a little off-topic before this post... :(

I also love Mario / Zelda / Metroid stuff, some of them rank amongst my all-time favorite games. But I've been playing them since the NES era , so you'll forgive me if I got tired of them ;) That's why I don't see a mature rage, it's just that many many gamers just got old and those experiences aren't enough for them anymore.

Agreed, though I love indie games there's just no comparison with stuff like Bioshock / Borderlands / Last of Us / etc. And that's hurting the Vita because too many of its AAA titles are crap.

I think Sony could have been just throw away all these indie crap and sent that money to hire people to port boderland 2 on vita.. That probably helped it's sale
