Definitely excited for this. I have my First Edition bundle preordered and paid off, and I sold my PSP before it loses all its value. (This, in turn, has meant relying on my iPod Touch for the last few days, and it's just not the same.) Now I just need to buy an extra game and a memory card, so I can play some PSN games while I wait for the Vita games to come out!
I'll probably trade in my shitty DSI XL for this but the Iphone/Ipod will still be the superior gaming platform. Unless Madcatz comes out with an arcade stick where you can sync up to the Vita and play Street Fighter X Tekken on the go. Hella sweet.
I've purchased a large contingent of PSP games within the last 6 months or so, because they are cheap used. On Amazon, you get some for ridiculously cheap. But basically none are above 19.99 at Gamestop. I've purchased around 30. As a pure gaming device, the iPhone/iTouch doesn't come anywhere close to competing with these games. Understandable, since they all retailed at $40 when they first hit the marketplace, and most iOS games cost less than 10. Sure, the graphical capabilities are not great by today's standards, but as a complete, all-encompassing, full-fledged gaming experience, these games shred anything the AppStore has to offer. I've collected a lot of console quality PSP games; many of the ports. A few system exclusives too. Star Wars Force Unleashed, Crisis Core, Birth by Sleep, God Father Mob Wars, Reistance Retribution, Peacemaker, Tomb Raider Legend, God of War, From Russia With Love, Logan's Shadow, Shattered Memories, Dissidia, Manhunt 2, Battlefront, Raw Vs Smackdown 2011, Midnight Club 3 : DUB. Nobody can argue that iOS games are better then this. They may look better, but that's about it. The storytelling, the production values, the voice over work, the cut scenes, the character development, the content value. It's no comparison. And that is with the PSP. We're not even talking about the Vita, which like a PSP on steroids. The first round of Vita reviews are due up on IGN tomorrow.
Well for those wondering if the Vita was going to get any marketing promotion, hows does the tune of a $50 million dollar campaign sound? "You might think the crux of PS Vita's launch campaign would focus on the neverending assault on the portable market currently being instigated by iPhone, Android and co. In the US, however, Sony's focus will be on stressing the 'always on' nature of the firm's new handheld to an audience it's already tapped up: PlayStation 3 owners. The PlayStation promise Speaking to the New York Times, SCEA's hardware marketing director John Koller said the handheld's $50 million marketing campaign in the US will focus on conveying how PS Vita helps PS3 players take their gaming experience out of the home. The trick will be to make them "feel engaged and still feel like they're playing on a console." It is, he said, the "largest platform launch in terms of marketing investment" Sony has ever instigated in the US, with the aforementioned 'Never Stop Playing' campaign set to span both social media and more typical outlets, such as television commercials and billboards. Getting consumers involved organically, however, will be key to making PS Vita's message find its way to as many users as possible, he added, and the handheld's official US Twitter hashtag - #gamechanger is the baby of US ad agency Deutsch. The portable game "Gaming is no longer playing alone in a basement by one person with one machine; its all networked," said executive VP and creative director at Deutsch, Jason Elm. Indeed, Elm stressed not only will PS Vita appeal to existing PlayStation consumers as Koller asserted, but the campaign designed to push it will also reach out to an audience "very socially plugged in, mobile, out and about, both physically and on the internet." As has long been the case, it appears Sony's strategy in the west is one that looks vastly different to the one the electronics giant has employed in Japan. Koller will be hoping the handheld's sales figures will be altogether different, too." http://www.pocketgamer.biz/r/PG.Biz/PlayStation+Vita/news.asp?c=37798
I'd totally impulse buy one of these for the flight back to the USA, but why the hell is Sony pricing it at $250.00 and 250.00? Last I checked $250 is like 180. I'm not paying Sony an asshole tax of 70.
It's priced an extra $100 where I live as well. It's things like this combined with their ludicrous memory card pricing that tick me off a bit. But do we have a choice? Heh... That said, can't wait for the Vita's launch... can't believe we're just a week away. Reviews are ranging from 7-9 across most popular review sites for most games.
Well it isn't that different in the iOS world either, right? I mean, from what I know the iPod Touch 4 64GB costs 400$ in the US, but I still had to pay 400€ for it. Edit: just checked, it is cheaper, but only by 10€ (=>390€), wich really isn't that much of a difference
Yeah, it does suck. It was the same when the 3DS launched, it was a fair bit more expensive over here in Europe than it was in the US. Still, despite telling myself I would wait, I couldn't resist with Amazon's pre-order deal.
It's always been the same since console pricing started, Europe always gets screwed over as they never do the proper conversion from Dollars to Pounds/Euros and we always end up paying through the nose for it, Mine has cost me £230 for the wifi only version on a brighter note, just over a week to go!
Hasnt Euro gone down the toilet?? Shocked it isnt €400 tbh Always forget US dont include tax so its similar to GBP in total And the comments dont really count about mem cards because if you buy from Amazon you get a free mem card lol! And dont buy from Game, cancelled my pre order and all they offered was instore credit bunch of bull lol
Well the euro doesen't seem to have changed that much, infact it has improoved since the last time I checked ages ago, when it was still abit over 1.25$, now 1 is just over 1.32$, wich would mean that without taxes a Wifi PS Vita should cost about 188,82
When last went to Paris £1 was basically a Euro, dont know what exchange to Dollars is, so rekon the €250 is reasonably priced, dont know what the game prices are like though
Quit whining, guys, Sony will release it in Brazil at ~US$900-950 (wi-fi model + ModNation + Case + 4GB Card). You read it right, about NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS!!! Of course, nearly everybody will buy it in the black market, but even then it will likely cost more than double compared to the current 3DS price, so I'm pretty sure it will sell very, very, very bad. Maybe I'll buy it, but only if I travel abroad in the next few months.
The same goes for most consoles/games/laptops/PCs/etc... they stick the same number on the price tag and hope we don't know what the exchange rate is. Anyway, I just came here to say that Vita needs SSX. Discuss.
