This has got to be the most prize-intensive contest ever for an iDevice. Approximately how many wins will it take to reach 2500 Elo?
There are quite a few good players who are active in our Chess Elite discussion thread on TA including Artnj, Brof, Don Fisst, Gaiillusion One of these guys would take the devices
The fastest way to reach 2500 is by playing and winning more number of games with high ranked Elo players. The higher the Elo rating of the player you win against, more points you gain. But that said, it is not very easy to win against these high ranked Elo players. So it will take considerable effort from your side. You can compare some of the stats on the profile page of players. Some have just played 60-70 games and have reached an Elo rating of around 2000. You might have to choose variety of players to play with and plan your way to the top
Sounds true. Even I do not recall any single contest for the iDevice that was as prize-intensive as this one. Based on that, we (I am one of the devs at 99Games) were hoping to get some good coverage for this contest so that we could see some good participation as the news spread. We are getting a mention here and a mention there but nothing much We have emailed pretty much everyone about this contest. Do we need to utter some magic words to get a mention? True, we know that they cannot write about every one of these contests but we felt that this one was quite unique to the platform. Need some inputs fellas. Anyone with similar experiences to share?
I played a match with my dad last night. lol, I am in no way ready for this. I was trying out a bunch of different plans, but in the end, he got a checkmate from my mistakes (and apparently, you can't checkmate with just a pawn and a rook).
I sent the link to my childhood IM friend (i.e. one level short of grandmaster), and will let you know if he decides to go for it. Probably not terribly likely, but I tried!
Thanks again, Art. We would love to have some real good players participate in this contest and see them win these prizes. Let us know if he accepts..
Quick question... We are looking at using contests to promote our apps as well. But, we are concerned with the legality of contests such as this one where you require the user to purchase a copy of the game to enter. We've seen how this could be seen as a lottery and be illegal in most states (and countries). That's why most contests state "No Purchase Necessary" Have you checked the legal issues? We'd love to hear feedback as we are planning promotions as well.
Depends on what you want out of the contest. If it is to increase the brand awareness, just give away your app for free so that you are in the right and no purchases are necessary..
Congratulations to Benetti for being the first player of Chess Elite Community to achieve an Elo rating of 2100. Benetti has decided to forgo the prize for this rating (iPod Shuffle 2GB) and will try to win a higher value prize. Others can still try to claim the prize for this rating!!! Give it up for Benetti, a fabulous Chess player!
