It’s clearly marked as SPONSORED CONTENT not to mention I had to go to my Android phone to see it because it doesn’t even show up in Safari with ad blocker installed. It’s not the first paid-for review here and it sure isn’t the last either. Personally, if this is the way to keep the site alive, I’m fine with that. anthony78 Well-Known Member Nov 13, 2015 3,126 703 113 #5 anthony78, Feb 19, 2020 Anyone know if there’s a game like this (Blackjack solitaire) that is free of all the BS? Premium would be nice. addink Well-Known Member Apr 24, 2013 74 12 8 #6 addink, Feb 20, 2020 Sure it is marked cleary, ONLY AT THE END OF THE REVIEW, ALL THE WAY AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE. And yes, the style of writing is a slight giveaway too as it is written in the first person yet no author dares to take credit, and it is unconvincingly positive. And let’s face it, how could a app that preys on those with bad maths skills hoping to beat the odds, ever be written convincingly positive? Yes it is just another ad, but it is an insult to even try to attempt to pass this garbage of a piece off as a genuine review.. I had thought TouchArcade was above that. Hence my ‘sad moment’ remark. and PS: you might ask yourself the question what service you are doing TouchArcade by using an ad blocker. Thanks for your support. Boardumb Administrator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Apr 14, 2009 8,964 880 113 THE BOSS Sacramento, CA #7 Boardumb, Feb 20, 2020 It is not a review and isn't claiming to be. Our reviews are marked as reviews and have star ratings. If anything you could call it a first impressions type of thing, because those were literally my first impressions after playing the game. And if they sound positive it's because they were. I genuinely enjoyed how they mixed elements of Blackjack into a Solitaire type game. I'm sorry you found it unconvincing or felt it wasn't earnest. Occasionally I'm required to write a sponsored article about a game I just plain don't find interesting in any way, and in those cases I usually just stick to a lot of basic talking points without coloring it with any sort of personal perspective because I just don't have any anyway. In this case I was surprised by how much I liked the core gameplay and that came across in the writing. I don't use my own byline not because I'm ashamed but just because that's the way we've always done these, and it's the way most other websites do it. The real money thing… yeah I'm generally not a fan but wanted to try and approach this game with an open mind. I think it's nice they have the option to play for free so you don't HAVE to spend money just to play, but I do understand the concerns about the gambling and addiction aspects. Our ads are booked by our ad sales person and generally I don't know anything about them until I need to write something and post it, but I will reach out to her and let her know that going forward we'd like to avoid doing any ads for real money gambling games. It sucks because we avoided doing any sort of sponsored content for SO LONG, much longer than pretty much any other website I can think of, but it eventually became a necessity. We don't sell traditional banner ads like we used to, and even the sponsored article stuff doesn't get a ton of interest, which is why they are so infrequent. If I'm being honest I will be absolutely shocked if we are able to keep the doors open beyond the summer. So as someone who has dedicated the last ten years of his life to TA it breaks my heart to see a negative reaction to a sponsored article like this, because we didn't want to do stuff like this in the first place. I wasn't trying to be dishonest or trick anybody, I genuinely like the game, but I wish I'd had more time to think about the real money aspect first. Sorry to ramble, I take this stuff really seriously. I also appreciate the feedback, good or bad. I honestly don't know what people would prefer: a TA that is able to stick around by any means necessary or no TA at all. It genuinely makes me sad. I can only imagine how someone who’s been instrumental in keeping it going for this long and poured so much of their life into keeping it going (and keeping it quality!) would feel about it. I don’t care what you have to do to keep TA alive, I just hope it’s here for as long as possible. Thank you for everything you and the other staff have done and continue to do. macplash Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2014 2,645 1,103 113 Male 3D artist Munich, Germany #9 macplash, Feb 20, 2020 Despite this has almost nothing to do with this particular game, @Boardumb you seriously shouldn’t let one negative person to get to you. There’s always one. And this one person’s opinion never reflects how the rest is feeling. TouchArcade community is fantastic. And trust me, we all appreciate your dedication! Don’t even think it’s being unnoticed. I agree with @Anotherkellydown - you do whatever it takes to keep TA alive. We’re behind you, no matter what. Keep that in mind. And thank you!
