The problem with Apple's AppStore is that it creates a mentality that if you wait long enough you'll just get it for free. I'm not going to lie, there's been many games I've done this to and has saved me a lot of money and I know there are many who do the same. Now if I know its from a developer like Square and their paid FF games, I'll buy it cause I know it will never go free. There's a lot of blame to why games aren't selling, but creating an environment where people just wait for games to go free or wait for a ridiculous 99c price drop for a $5 game doesn't exactly help create a profitable environment. Developers are to blame as well, not just the consumer. This is why Google has a much better setup to support a better environment. In their Google Play store, if a game is paid, it can never go free and vice versa...once a paid game, always a paid game. This prevents crap like Plasma Sky going free from happening, or crap like Mushroom Wars for iPad from happening where a $5 game I paid for goes to freemium and when I reinstall it, I have to spend $5 IAP to unlock the campaign I already paid for. Sigh wutevers...so 11pm it is then...waited for this to go free, thanks Apple AppStore =\
The game has gotten great reviews across the board. The impressions in the thread couldn't be more positive. It costs $2, without an IAP in sight. But you "waited for this go free." Dude, your attitude sucks.
This may be true, but the way sales work with digital content can be pretty counter-intuitive. For example, games that go on sale on Steam sell at a much much higher rate during the sale, and then afterwards go back to the old rate or higher. It doesn't seem to cannibalize future sales. There are definitely people who would have bought the game at a higher price if they didn't think a sale was coming, but there's also a ton of people who wouldn't think about getting the game except that it's on sale. How this applies to going free, I have no idea. Since I have no in-app purchases, I might actually just end up with a lot more people to support and no extra sales. But that's the experiment, I'm pretty curious what will happen! I scheduled it to be free on Saturday, so it should be free around when Saturday starts in your time-zone, or more accurately when it starts in the time-zone your version of the iTunes store is based in. I don't control the exact timing, I just give Apple a date.
I'm guilty of waiting for games for free, but only those with IAP. No IAP, then I buy. IAP, never buy and never support. I agree however - paid game should always be paid Bought Plasma Sky at launch and have no regrets since there's no IAP. I give no support to developers for paid games with idespensible IAPs
Didn't you help out with iCade support? I like how you are playing with a HDMI TV, using your iCade Core whilst resting it on your Gameloft joy-stick thingy
Hoggy! If you look here, you will see my Gameloft Duo Gamer Joystick Setup. Also, you will see my usual ihome tripod that I use. The Gameloft joystick comes with a tripod that says Gameloft on it. This tripod, I don't really use all that much, but it is useful for games that are in portrait orientation like Plasma Sky when taking pictures of it. Since the hdmi connector and power are on the bottom, it won't fit on my tripod, so I use the Gameloft tripod cause it has an internal crevice, so that it can fit the cable in there without showing. But usually Plasma sky, I usually just play with my icade on my new ipad. Portrait games don't really play all that well on hdmi tv cause it only uses a fraction of the screen. Landscape games, I can zoom to fit my tv screen, so that is cool. With icade, I play about half on hdmi tv, half just with the icade. Three beautiful games on a big tv with icade used as a remote bluetooth joystick are Metal Slug X, Blazing Star, and Tabletop Racing. Plasma Sky looks pretty good on tv, but actually the vector graphics look better on my retina ipad screen. This is unusual, cause almost all my games look far better on tv, but this is one rare game, where it plays much better on my new ipads screen. So Dirty Harry is right. Edit: and if you look here, you can also see my Soundfreaq bluetooth speaker which I can also use with icade, my hybrid stylus (with hybrid metal grill tip), and my Targus sleeve.
I was mainly explaining it for any new folks. I used to have mixed feelings about getting games for free until I found out why devs do this and just how much it can help them out by participating. But I have waited for sales to end on a couple games because I wanted to support the dev with a purchase so you aren't alone, though you probably have done that more than I have. 1 more hour and it should be free in the USA.
If you are reading this, are even remotely interested in shooters and don't download this title, then you should give up gaming forever.
OMG. This game is awesome. I feel guilty for downloading it free. I'll have to buy the developers next game.
Really hoping that everyone has grabbed this and will fire it up soon. You owe it to yourself to enjoy this.
I'm really enjoying the game.Really great game.I did not know about it. Just got a question?I played it on iphone 4 as well as in iphone 5 but what are those black lines. Is it really optimized for iphone 5?
It is, but the dimensions of the play area are actuall important for this kind of game, so I couldn't just stretch it for the taller screen. Instead, I letterbox the play area and use the extra space to get the UI out of the way. On iPhone 5 the ship power meter is moved up and out of the way, and on iPad the health bar and other icons are moved off to the sides. Everyone gets the same gameplay though. Glad you like the game!
