I'll admit, I've never *gasp* played this, but for $2.99 and the massive fan base I don't think I can go wrong downloading it.

Have you layed the PC version? I thought it was shite when my friend told me about it, but 10 minutes in I was in love with it. At least try the PC demo.
Oh ok I see what the story is with the minigames now. According to STP, the adventure mode is identical to the PC version, and the adventure mode had minigames thrown into it in between levels. But its not set up where you can play the minigames seperately like in the PC version. So basically you get the adventure mode and no minigame section just the ones naturally included in adventure mode. I think thats what he means.
Don't be so sure. I don't like games with cartoony graphics and have played enough tower defense games that I didn't need another one, and this is my favorite game in years, I bought it for Windows and Mac, and will buy the iPhone version. It is just a brilliantly constructed game, and the target audience is pretty much anyone who likes any sort of game.
